A friend of mine was at the Preston training ground this morning.

He confirmed to me the two clubs agreed a fee but TC refused to move up north, which is good news for now but suggests negotiations on a contract extension have not gone well and the club have no option but to cash in
IF THIS IS TRUE…then if he does not want to be here then get rid of him.  I’ve always liked TC however if he doesn’t want to continue his journey with Charlton cash in, as soon as a player doesn’t want to sign an extension then unfortunately their heads are turned.  I hope it’s not true and your friend hasn’t confirmed anything with their recruitment team, groundsman, canteen staff, kitman, ballboys.

And he should not be included in the squad on Saturday ..
Fuck me ! After two ridiculous comments regarding Tyreece's freedom of contract, I thought it couldn't get worse but No! 'Silly Bollocks' out does them all !
    Absolutely.

Campbell must be dropped but Jones, who also hasn't signed a new deal, can start and even be captain.

    Talk about a double standard.
    Or too thick to realise.

Doucher with another absolutely fantastic rumour post. Right up there with cracked phone screen:

    might have been Darren Pratley
    - young fella who looked fairly athletic and mobile, no indication of who he actually is, tantalising descriptors but they could apply to dozens of footballers in our sights
    - confirmed he got off at the train station nearest to Sparrows Lane

But then why would he take the train? Was it defo Pratley? Is is just some guy who lives in SE? So many questions.

    Lovely, lovely stuff
We’ve had a few crackers this summer, best transfer thread for a while. It’s really rewarded the committed readers
IF it was Pratley seeing off a player onto a train to New Eltham, would it not be more likely that it was one of ours coming home?
I can pretty much rule that out coz he walked down avery hill road rather than taking the shortcut through Tiverton Drive that one of ours would 100% know about

Does this player need to take out a restraining order?

    Absolutely.

Campbell must be dropped but Jones, who also hasn't signed a new deal, can start and even be captain.

    Talk about a double standard.
Jones has regularly and consistently been one of our best performers throughout all the years that he’s been here, in one of the most vital positions for us. No complaints, played through injuries on more than one occasion etc.
TC on the other hand although sometimes a threat, has not come close to putting up the kinds of numbers to justify it and his end product at times is painful.
We’ve signed Grant now who in my opinion is a far better player to have on the left side, if we were able to cash in on TC and get around the rumoured £2-£3m then I think that’s a great deal for us, especially if he thinks he can do better than us and we’d hopefully be able to put that towards a JRS type player who imo is far better than TC.
That said I’m not quite sure who he expects to come in for him with the kinds of numbers he’s put up for us, even in L1 wasn’t the greatest. Hopefully his mate Thierry Small can convince him to go and join him up in Preston.
So what? Jones is "refusing" to sign a contract after we "rescued" his career that was going "nowhere" at Cambridge, he is "disrespecting" the club and fans.

See how silly that is but that is how double standards work; rate a player then it is OK for him to negotiate a new deal, don't rate a player and they are greedy and should be dropped.

Personally I want them both to resign and I suspect they will.
I just think we need to look at it a bit more ruthlessly and compare the actual players and their roles. Maybe I’m too old school in that I just wouldn’t really want a player that doesn’t really want to be here, PARTICULARLY one that has come through the academy and has been here his whole career and knows no differently. They’re essentially both at opposite ends of their career, I’d assume any move that Lloyd Jones made would have to be a well thought out one as it could be his last if he’s looking upwards ambition wise at least IF he doesn’t see that with us. TC is still the unfinished article. Plenty of potential there which I do see, however I do also see many holes in his game that to me don’t make him irreplaceable. I do agree that there are probably other sides out there that “could” get the best out of him, and allow him to add those things to his game, but realistically is he going to be able to do that here? I’m not so sure so do think it could be in the clubs best interests to cash in if we can.

Jones would be much harder to replace than TC at this stage. Although still not easy of course but I do think a “tricky” winger would be far easier to snap up to fill in for TC. There’s at least 3 or 4 players that I can think of that I think are likely better than him, and that’s not even to mention potential PL loans.
Whereas we’d find it near on impossible, particularly at this stage of the window to find someone to come and do Lloyd Jones’ job at centre half.
Who are these better wingers who we could realistically afford?

Many probably said the same about Apter a year ago, but TC was the one who was a regular for a whole Championship season.

There are plenty of similar comments about Alli being inconsistent, lacking end product etc.

Wingers all look great in highlights but if they’re that good that will likely have better offers or have a big downside whether that’s fitness, attitude or something else.

We can probably improve on TC, but not as easily or by as much as we’d like to think.
Obviously completely dependant on our budget because who really knows what that is, but just off the top of my head I’d say that Rak Sakyi, Edozie, Cozier-Dubbery, Stan Mills, Reyes Cleary and Abdul Abdulmalik are all better than TC.
A few of those would likely be on loan but as I say that also probably depends on our budget overall, how much we’d have from a potential TC sale and then whatever we have left over from that that we’d be willing to put in. Obviously I’m fully aware that some clubs are rumoured to be asking for/rejecting silly amounts but think it’s a case of you won’t know unless you actually try.

Again I’m not saying it will be easy to replace him as such, but was just comparing and was saying it would be ‘easier’ to replace him than Lloyd Jones as there is just quite simply a larger pool/market of wingers than there is traditional hard bastard centre halves these days.
So 5 players that we either probably wouldn’t be able to afford or probably wouldn’t want to sign for us, and then a non league player.

Would say with some of those names too, that although their numbers are better than TC in terms of goals and assists, if Nathan Jones is looking for a winger that’s not all he’s looking at. TC is much better without the ball than most of those names
I don’t think any of the players I’ve mentioned would be unrealistic at all. JRS in the last year of his contract so it’s Palace’s last chance to cash in and I don’t see why he wouldn’t want to sign for us. Edozie needs game time and will know Jones from before, Cozier Dubbery’s only real successful loan to date was at Bolton last season in L1 but struggled prior at Blackburn before that in the champ so don’t see how a team like us in and around the bottom half of the Champ wouldn’t be a good move or a step up for him, Stan Mills was one of the stand out players in a relegated side and was rumoured to be joining Preston for around £2.5-£3m but don’t know how that’s progressed at all, Cleary is a brilliant player although do think Barnsley asking for £6m is very steep after pretty much one good season, and if you’ve seen Abdulmalik play I think you’d realise that he’s one of those very likely destined to certainly go far, for sure much higher than Boreham Wood who I do wonder if they will have to cash in eventually because how stubborn can you really be?!

Think it’s been mentioned on here before that Stan Mills quite often filled in at right back for Oxford as well or at least played a more defensive role at times so would be one of those for sure likely to do what TC does off the ball. All hypotheticals of course, I’m just chucking some names out there that came straight to my head.
I am extremely intrigued to know who our main target is and has been at RW for a while though.

So many essays on TC. Its simple. If we want to progress, We need to keep our best players, he is one of them, hes one of our own, we need to develop him (he will come on for last season) - match any wage offer. Id be surprised if he doesnt want to sign.

Very long shot but just walked past what look d like Darren Pratley at London Bridge station New Eltham platform - he was with a younger black lad - mid length dreads type hair do swept back, quite tall, lightish brown skin tone - guy I think was pratley said goodbye as train came in, younger lad got on - will keep an eye out to see if gets off at New Eltham - does Pratley work at orient still or anywhere else where he might be dropping off a new signing à la Chris Powell that time ?
Got off at New Eltham - big unit
Don't leave us there, get after him...
Just back off holiday with the wife and suitcases - would have been hard to stay under the radar and not sure the wife would have been that happy
You should have sent your wife to do the tracking and lugged the cases home yourself.

I'll be surprised if we can sell TC this summer. From his PoV, there is no advantage to accepting a transfer now. If he leaves on a free next year, he'll have more options and get a higher salary.
So what do we do with a player who turns down a move when the club is being offered say 2 mill?
Let's assume we have made him a good offer of a new contract.
It is his right to see out his contract but it is the club's right to say we will not register him.
His wages are probably quite low comparatively so it might cost us a few hundred grand but it would sharpen his thinking massively about signing or leaving.
Personally I would like him to stay as with our new system he will have a much bigger input for us.
BUT the club cannot be held to ransom by him or his agent. We need to shift players out now and we need the money.
The same may well apply to any offers we get for Doc and Cov with one year left.......
Cutting off your nose to spite your face, tbh.

Play him, and get an extra year's use out of a player before losing him on a free(/for compensation) anyway, or don't play him and the same happens.

Should we have not played Dobson for the last year of his contract? Small? Aribo?

Might have ended up in a lot worse positions each of those seasons if we hadn't.

Although I’m not overly bothered either way I’m sure the club could sort a new contract quite easily. TC strikes me as a lad that would not particularly relish moving miles away to unknown surroundings. Extending his contract would be cheaper than buying a replacement. Maybe the club and TC are waiting to see how he does this season in the new formation. Bit of a gamble from both sides really but can see the point. Unless someone comes in like Brighton or Brentford I really can’t see the attraction of moving from TC’s perspective and glad he refused Preston it true that he did

I can only assume that people posting that Campbell being a bit of a homebird are off the mark.  If not, he's not going to have much of a career travelling on a 1-6 zone travelcard.

I think people are making the jump from him being shy to him not being able to move far away. I think that’s a bit of a reach, he didn’t move to Preston probably because they aren’t very good. If he’d had an offer from Burnley I bet he’d have gone straight away

It’s very bold to say a non league player is better, I’m not against signing players from that low if we can be confident they’d step up, but there’s so many question marks around a player jumping 3 divisions.

I agree JRS is more talented but TC is better in terms of work rate, fitness, tracking back, pressing etc, that’s important to us having one of the lower budgets.

Stan Mills scored 3 and assisted 4 in the league last season according to FotMob, very similar to TC. Feels like one of those who seems better based on highlights compared to watching our player in full games.

Cleary has good goal and assist stats in L1 but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s above our budget, hence signing Alli for about £1-1.5m, a bit more than we probably hope to get for TC.

There’s a reason he has Championship interest, and I don’t think many wingers we could sign are a level or two above him.

Interested to know how many times you have seen them play?  I mean full matches, not highlight reels.

I loved JRS when he was here but he is never tracking back/tackling so would never work in a Jones team

Not from me - I won’t be stalking him, he’s a big unit remember
Could they have been an academy player?

Langstaff scored 40 in non-league, 30 in league 2 but couldn’t really cut it in the championship. I am aware of Abdulmalik but to say he’s definitely better than TC I think is ridiculous, let’s see how he does when he moves up a couple of leagues this season

Sheff Utd have signed Kalvin Phillips….making it unlikely they will bring in Jordan Holsgrove as well.

A move to the Valley could be back on.
But JH is extremely uninterested in coming here apparently.

How much notice do they have to give?

100% - I used to live in Tiverton drive - was a steady flow of academy players at certain times of day

He’s tricky but he’s very short and definitely fails the height test.  I watched him in Millwall’s academy before he moved to Borehamwood and said it was a hell of a signing for them - and anything over )1m would be a risk but he is actually VERY very good.

Could Nick Pope create a transfer domino in terms of keeper moves? Apparently he is leaving Newcastle.

If he joins Celtic would that mean Viljami Sinisalo becomes available? We wanted him two years ago , but maybe now we are a Championship club we might be attractive on a season loan

If he goes to Ipswich , would Christian Walton become available? Already known to Nathan.

If the Kaminski noise is accurate could it be a keeper?

I didn’t see any gloves but yes, he could definitely have been a keeper given his size

I doubt Abdulmalik would fit the Jones requirements.

Not exactly known for tracking back, head drops when things aren't going his way.

Yes he's very exciting going forward with lots of pace but it's not like he has a record like Vardy or Beckford where their stats clearly showed they should be playing well above that level. It's a big step up, and is he really offering anything more than Campbell?

Plus he was released by Millwall. I'm still getting used to the current one 🤣
