Surely CD would be on loan... But still a very good replacement

It always get's me when people always go straight to "we are probably paying most of the wages" when we loan someone out but when we loan someone in the assumption is always that we are having this big wages outlay. Makes no sense to me - like the clubs we loan from have made that player surplus to requirements the same as we have the players we loan out - why is the assumption always that we are running some kind of charity loan out situation but when we dip into the market we are paying top dollar?

I know when the club was run badly that may have well been the case but I just don't get this automatic assumption that when we decide a player isn't right for us/not good enough that automatically makes them worthless to anyone else but when other clubs decide the same about one of theirs we must be paying a full whack.
It depends on the direction a player is going in. It's not charity, it's us buying players in who were either stepping up a level with the associated wage increase or coming from a place where they were being paid a lot and seeing them either not be at the level or needing to be shifted. Are are Cypriot team able to match the wages of one of our highest earners even with a little bit of European revenue? Can Cambridge afford Ahadme's salary given he was signed for a decent fee by a top L1 team and then probably got a promotion bump? If Apter goes on loan it will only be down to L1 and no-one is paying him a Championship wage to do that. I reckon there' a decent chance that Lincoln are covering Tanto's salary given their promotion but our loans out that aren't youth loans and admissions of transfer failures and as a result there aren't teams at the same financial level willing to take them.
Conversely someone like Bindon is a top prospect and will likely have had a number of teams interested while the cost of keeping him at the club would barely affect Forest's finances so they'll only sanction a deal that suits them. It's a reflection of where we are and how much of a financial gap there can be between the divisions

Ok great move for Kanu. Where are we now with squad registration limit? I know some of you have live spreadsheets going
Doesn't really change much, this is how the expected 25 player squad is currently looking

    Okonkwo (L), Mannion, Brooks
    Edwards, Bell
    Koumetio, Mesik
    Jones, Bindon (L), Burke
    Ramsay, McNamara
    Coventry, Chalobah
    Ouma (L), JRC, Mwamba (U21)
    Carey, Knibbs
    Campbell, Alli, Grant
    Leaburn, Mbick (U21)
    Kelman, Godden

    Unregistered: Sichenje
Expected to leave: Asiimwe, Apter, Docherty, Fullah (U21)

Still leaves us with 27 players so 3 players need to leave (ideally the 3 above) for there to be space for the next signing to join.

For a 2nd player to join we would need 1 from the list above to leave, but who we could all easily speculate on but would suspect potentially Knibbs would be next likely. Also worth noting sending Mbick out on loan to make way for a new striker would not reduce the squad numbers and an additional player (on top of the 3 + Knibbs?) would have to leave so really don't see us signing another striker this window at least.

Wouldn't Tyler Bindon be an underage player so wouldn't have to be registered?

Azeez now looks set to move to Brighton in a deal worth £15m plus a young player said to be worth around £10m, although it remains unclear exactly who that player will be.

Kind of a Hulk/Bruce Banner thing going on here

Wouldn’t be shocked if Gallen has a look at Rak-Sakyi to replace Azeez, he signed him for us back in the day

Kanu remains under contract with the club until 2028, having signed an extension in the summer of 2025.”
What the fuck have we all been talking about then?!
They chose not to announce that extension last summer for some unknown reason.
    Incompetence rather than conspiracy?

I don't recall anyone saying that we subsidise the wages of the players we loan out, but pay the full wages of the players we bring in.

If you're loaning in an unwanted senior player like Ahadme or Apter, you're very unlikely to be paying all their wages, but it works both way. I'm sure we only paid a percentage of Coady's wages for example.

With younger players, a lot depends I imagine on how good/experienced they are. If it's an inexperienced "unknown" that the parent clubs is desperate to send out to get experience, I imagine they'll be prepared to subsidise their wages, whereas if it's a much sought after starlet (say a Mikey Moore), the parent club will expect a full contribution, and maybe a loan fee.

Don't mind the idea of raiding Coventry for players they're moving on from. EMC or even Eccles would be excellent targets.

Where would knibbs go? Shows how bad the £13m was last summer only kelman.
Yep. You’re relating to the team that were one of the favourites for relegation and survived.
In fairness, without the January signings I think the team that was put together in the summer would have been relegated.

Osman a good shout actually. Brighton paid a very substantial fee for him from Nordejsland. Has made a couple of sub appearances for them this season however.

No chance of any of those 4 IMO.

Mason-Clark played in the Premier League for Coventry already this season, Osman cost Brighton £14m and Ramanzani was on loan to Valencia last year. Koumas prefers the left and came off the bench already this season for Liverpool

For starters,  Ramazani was on loan at Valencia all of last season so didn’t play in the championship.

U21 fixture tomorrow (plus travel up to Birmingham?) to complicate things. The team news might be significant.

Hearing McCowatt might be off to a rival Championship club now as Charlton have "been dragging their heals".
A decent Danish journo thinks he’s about to have a medical with AGF

Would be very weird for him, surely, moving from one small Danish Superliga club to another.

Hulk is over 40 but still plays for Fluminense.  No idea who Bruce Banner plays for. Never heard of him.

I think that leaves out some key context, the team that was put together in the summer started brilliantly until the injuries bit and a lot of what we did in January was covering for unexpected gaps in the squad. We lost Edwards for pretty much the whole season, had a few periods without Bell at the same time, thought we'd get Bree permanently but got done by their managerial change and only got 11 games out of Godden, 2 of them starts, and Kelman got injured. We were 5th on 4th November and then two games after that we were starting with Hernandez and Apter at WB and Gillesphey completely exposed. The signings we made mostly covered the gaps that had been created; Chambers in so we actually had a LWB, Clarke to replace Bree, Dykes to cover for the missing Kelman and Godden, Fevrier for Apter and Collins in early because we realised a bit of extra cover clearly wouldn't hurt.
Coady made a big difference because we'd become fragile and needed a bit more nous in the middle but I reckon if we hadn't had all those injuries at once we would have carried on much better continuing the momentum we got from promotion, I don't see that team with Edwards and Bell available only winning 1 of their next 11 but it's not that surprising that a left side that was usually Gillesphey and one of Fullah, Campbell or Hernandez wasn't having a good time. Our January window saved us but I think it was more a reflection of the unfortunate attrition across the autumn than the summer business itself

Might be able to increase wages with minimal life movement which might suit him but I know what you mean. Could be all part of the transfer window dance 😂
