Good Evening fellow Addicks…

So, another long midweek trek awaits us, including those incredible travelling Addicks, as we make the 500 mile round trip to The Riverside Stadium for a tantalising and very important match with second place side Middlesborough. There's no getting away from the fact that tonight will be a toughie, and one many of us feel we will be very fortunate to travel home with a positive result, but we must stay focused and give it a go…and who knows 🤔

Injury list seems to be growing with Reece Burke, Collins Sichenje, Luke Berry, Josh Edwards Harvey Knibbs and Matty Godden all sidelined, Thomas Kaminski is the closest to returning, while 'Boro have Dael Fry, who was forced off on Sunday, Alfie Jones, Darragh Lenihan, Alex Bangura and Sammy Silvera all unavailable.

We've met on 107 previous occasions, winning 36, Boro 46 and the remaining 25 encounters ending in draws. the last meeting ended in a 2-1 win for Middlesbrough at The Valley back in December 2025.

We will be sporting the white and blue away kit on Teesside.

Adam Herczeg will be the man in the middle tonight…

TEAM…Charlie Kelman returns to the starting line-up for tonight’s trip to Middlesbrough.

Keenan Gough, Conor Coady, Macaulay Gillesphey and Miles Leaburn also start as Nathan Jones makes five changes from the weekend. Kayne Ramsay, Lloyd Jones, Amari’i Bell, Tyreece Campbell and Lyndon Dykes move to the substitutes bench

Gough, Coady and Gillesphey are likely to start in a back three in front of Will Mannion.

Harry Clarke and Luke Chambers will operate as wing-backs with Conor Coventry, Sonny Carey and captain Greg Docherty making up the midfield three behind Kelman and Leaburn.

The aforementioned five are joined on the bench by Tiernan Brooks, Joe Rankin-Costello, Ibrahim Fullah and Jayden Fevrier.

Charlton: Mannion; Gough, Coady, Gillesphey; Clarke, Coventry, Carey, Docherty (c), Chambers; Kelman, Leaburn

Subs: Brooks, Ramsay, Jones, Bell, Rankin-Costello, Fullah, Fevrier, Campbell, Dykes

I know we tried a bit more of an open attacking style against Brum and the Circus, but don't see NJ trying that tonight unless we go a goal down.
Strangle the life out of the game and see how it goes.

Was quite looking forward to this but can't see anything other than a defeat now. Sorry to be negative and obviously hope I'm wrong.

Looks to me like we're resting players for Oxford - not so sure that's a great idea but here we go

It could also be a back 4 with Coady in a midfield box/diamond but it seems unlikely

Resting the back 3 and front 2 for Saturday then.

    Good opportunity for Gough.

Can only think we’ll be sitting deep with that back 3, not much pace there. Expected that going on what Jones said about our home game against them.

Looks like Jones is writing this one off.

A back 3 of Coady, Gilley and Gough might be the slowest back 3 in football history

    Gulp.

Well I will guess we will know if it was the right decision come 5pm on Saturday. Let's see.

Also feel for any fans going all that way when they see that lineup

I’d have rested Jones for sure, but changing the whole back line, especially for that back 3, feels like a bold gamble if we end up getting smashed tonight and then fail to pick up any points at Oxford.

I don't think they will be moving that much!

Jones is on the bench, team looks very much like he's given up already, but must say I sort of agree, so def looking forward to Saturday

    Strong Bench.
Think tonight's team was picked with Oxford in mind.
    Not necessarily a bad thing.

Nearly went tonight. Think I’ll be glad I didn’t.

Been critical of jones’ strange selection choices before and bitten me on the arse (Leicester away when he started 6 defenders and Leaburn and dykes). Personally think they’ll run right through us but more than happy to be proven wrong.

Would also rather boro have the 3 points to stop Millwall going up

Bit of an insult to the 500 or so who have shelled out to travel up there. Clearly have no interest in getting a result.

If you’re clearly going to write the result off this much, why not give more fringe players minutes.

Fevrier could have protected one of Clarke and Chambers. Fullah could have another opportunity, and might as well have given Rankin-Costello a go.

Jones, Ramsay and Bell fresh for Saturday which is far more important.
3 points are important, no matter where you get them from.

I just hope this doesn't backfire on NJ because he's putting a lot of pressure now to get a result on Sat.

It’s radical to change out the back three but I totally understand why. I just hope Hackney doesn’t run at Gillesphey because we’re stuffed if that’s the case . I’d settle for anything under a three goal defeat and let’s concentrate on Saturday after this game .
