A rightly pragmatic decision- we were unlikely to get more than a draw if lucky, and we rest players for weekend when its more important/likely to get a result.
    Rests/protects Jones from suspension.
Bit of pace up front on the break.
A midfield with a bit more bite.

Don't expect anything from tonight but I never did.

NJ creating a big problem for himself.

Drops first teamers but what's he gonna do when we win tonight?

Also all this ‘Oxford is what it’s all about’ is just silly too, still got very winnable games at home, plus Watford away, chill the hell out, we’re in a great place

This is the right choice. Saturday is the more winnable game
Put this up in the Oxford dressing rm!!
Lol at Matt Bloomfield spending his evening trawling Charlton Life and printing out 'MrBurns' innocuous posts, for what? to fire up Will Lankshear for a relegation dog fight?

Bloomfield prints out a Ronnie Moore post in error - Jeon Jin-woo subsequently becomes disillusioned with the game/life and hands in transfer request

The choices made tonight are Nathan's choices-  end of.

Whether he's brave or foolhardy, he'll take responsibility whatever the outcome- win, lose or draw. That's his job.

And I'm sure the lads will fight the good fight for their gaffer.

Let's try to believe whether we agree with his decisions or not - he's Charlton through & through like us.
  • I can see why Jones has done this but the question I'd ask is if he had decided to rest Lloyd Jones why drag him all the way up to Middlesbro? Not sure if the team is coming back tonight but if it is, he won't be home to 3 or 4 am. Why not leave him behind to rest?

I just hope we don't go 4 down in 25 minutes and NJ panics and puts LJ on. You just know he will get booked sometime if that happens.

I can’t see it, but it would be very Charlton to get a draw tonight with a weakened team, help Millwall, then lose to Oxford on Saturday, wouldn’t it?
Surely it’d be more Charlton for this to happen but also Gough gets crocked, goes off and Lloydy comes on and is instantly booked meaning we lose to both Oxford and Norwich too, hurrah…

He’s does read this forum, he said it’s such a font of knowledge he’d be stupid not to.

Lloyd doesn’t seem like the type to want to sit one out. I imagine he wanted to go.

You’d think that Saturday was the last game of the season and we needed a point to keep them from jumping above us out of the relegation zone.

A reminder that the last time a match thread was this hysterical before a ball had even been kicked was Leicester (A). We won 2-0.

A back 3 of Coady, Gilley and Gough might be the slowest back 3 in football history
    Bit harsh on Gough that

I doubt we would have got much out of the game full strength. Sensible management imo.
Just said to my son that it's a game of football between 2 Championship sides. We're not playing Barcelona or Real Madrid ffs  !!
    And we’re better than Spurs!
    A low bar tbf.

This puts massive pressure on Saturday.  Once you treat a midweek game like an EFL Cup game, you HAVE to deliver on Saturday.

Feel a bit for Kelman as well here. Given a start after winning us a game and it’s in a lineup that is almost designed to struggle at the back which will have a knock on effect for him. Still, it’s a chance to show some work rate

Didnt realise that Sarmiento was playing for Middlesbrough now, has he faced us before now?

I said play Coady instead of Jones and rest Chambers but Nathan went further.

We were going to lose if we put out our strongest team so this makes sense to give Cafc a better chance of having our best 11 fresh for Oxford.

I can't believe some wanted Lloyd to play tonight !
He can only give 100% and was bound to get a card and miss Oxford and Norwich.

Just give it a good go and you can always bring on the big guns if we smell a point.

Fully agree with resting players though tbf
    Mind how you go...
Just betting within my limits thanks
    Good on you @Cafctekkers

I have done similar while i will be hoping we get something, let's be realistic.

I combined a heavy defeat for us tonight (-3 is 12/1, etc) with margins in other games, including Birmingham to beat QPR comfortably (-1 and -2) and Boro to beat bristol on Saturday by minimum -1 and -2.  Doubles, trebles etc. Can get very big odds that way. Since i did the same for Millwall away i have a little fetish for this type of bet, though it hasn't come in again since then.

Did he play in the league cup for Brighton?
