South London clean sheet mafia.Only Preston and Norwich can ‘do the double’ over us now (alongside Portsmouth, Wrexham).2 -

Well, that certainly makes up for not beating Wrexham or Leicester at home.
Ironic, given how much Stoke fans hate him, that Nathan Jones has turned us into a reincarnation of Tony Pulis' Stoke - all bastards and long throws.
Love it.14 -
If you had watched the game you would have seen that they had plenty of shots, but only a couple troubled the keeper, most were either straight at him, or off target. Our defensive display limited them to mostly half chances. You can't criticise our boys due to the stats, the only important stats were 0-1 Charlton and three points.msomerton said:I did not watch the game have been out, so very happy with 3pts, but the BBC stats are shocking. They had 34 shots to our 5, they had 277 successful passes in the final third to our 24, they won 76.9% of tackles to our 53.4%, and so on.
We can not expect to win many more games if keep to stats like that. the one are I guess Borough were useless at was hit the goal.14 -
It takes a lot to stay that organised for 90 minutes. Mentally exhausting. Real credit to the boys tonight.WestStandPete said:If there’s such a thing as beautiful defending that was it. That must have been exhausting to keep chasing but everyone played their part in one of the results of the season. Definitely prefer Mannion in goal. Gives a calm assurance to the defence & claims the ball in the air like a seasoned keeper.I think Boro need a bit of practice on their heading though! Diabolical attempts !

Win six of our last nine and we are in the play offs17

Best defensive display I’ve seen from a Charlton team, maybe ever. Doherty just superb. Clarke also immense as was Mannion and Ramsay when he came on.
Is that us safe?If so, Nathan Jones is a genius. Whatever you think of him he’s done an incredible job in a very short space of time.COYRs13 -

We were excellent today, it’s night and day from a few weeks ago.3

Win at the weekend and we could feasibly leapfrog them tooExiled_Addick said:Well, that certainly makes up for not beating Wrexham or Leicester at home.

Magnificent result.
We were beaten before a ball had been kicked following the line up announcement according to the bookies and online pundits. Fortunately Nathan Jones' players had other ideas.
A proper backs to the wall, Rourke's drift performance and a lovely smash and grab goal to get the points. Everyone put their bodies on the line for the club tonight and an archetypal Nathan Jones performance....pragmatic, horrific to watch at times but got the result we needed.
Massive psychological boost going to Oxford now and hosting Norwich the following week. Win those two and we're up surely.
Oh and my Millwall neighbours just carried me atop their shoulders the length of our street cheering "Hail Charlton....the Heroes of South London" which was a lovely way to top off the evening.

I guess the Campbell is lazy/disinterested crowd missed him busting a gut to get back and block a cross from going into the penalty area

Free hit succesful! Thought it funny that we ended with our first choice defence in situe.
Great stuff, just need a decent result Saturday and we shoild be safe...

Can't believe I lasted 96 minutes there. Edge of the chair, never missing a header, kicking every ball. I'm absolutely knackered!
Just having a cold beer for my warm down.12 -
Absolutely phenomenal. What an effort from the whole team. I would not have picked that starting XI(!), but they are still eleven proud professionals and put in a serious shift tonight. And to defend that well without our best defender - amazing!Time to rest and recover and go again Saturday. Always proud to be a Charlton fan, but especially tonight.2

Mental how at the height of our form (the 1-0 win over West Brom in November) we were 5th, and 4-pts behind Stoke who were in second - They've dropped harder than the stone than what we have done.fenaddick said:

We were playing the team in 2nd you plonker, trying to match them toe for toe would've seen us summarily dismantled.msomerton said:I did not watch the game have been out, so very happy with 3pts, but the BBC stats are shocking. We set up with a low block, let them huff and puff, benefited from a couple of slices of good fortune and some inept finishing on their part, shithoused a goal, came away with three points.
You think we will set up like that against Oxford? Obviously bloody not lol18 -
Bet our dressing rm is buzzing, and so it should be, NJ and the team awesome job, so proud of them all.4

Fantastic back to the wall performance. If you want a laugh have a read of the reaction to the release of the line up , on the match thread.5

I thought he worked hard enough, but a few times now he's come off the bench and played a really lazy pass back to the defence which has been intercepted. Fortunately wasn't costly.crookester said:I guess the Campbell is lazy/disinterested crowd missed him busting a gut to get back and block a cross from going into the penalty area1 -
I know he's quick, but I didn't realise he could teleport.fenaddick said:"TC could've done more to help the defence". Look at his heat map, spent more time back defending than he did even near the halfway line ffs

Yes he did, but most of the time he stood and watched as they walked past him - can’t do that at this level.crookester said:I guess the Campbell is lazy/disinterested crowd missed him busting a gut to get back and block a cross from going into the penalty area9 -
Well I’m not going to pretend that wasn’t stressful but what a performance. I was feeling very negative about that starting lineup because we’ve proven time and again this season that behind the first choice defence we’re pretty thin but every player was superb tonight. Boro may have had a lot of the ball but I was never really that worried they would score. We had the only two clear cut chances in the game and we put one away. The game was managed incredibly by Jones as well. I thought Gough did really well and that it was harsh to take him off but Ramsay offered that uncanny ability to block almost any shot and he came on at just the right time. Gillesphey fought well but was on a booking and Bell annoyed them by being much quicker than they’d bargained for as they started trying to build everything down our left. Coady was brilliant and Lloyd just had to win a few headers. TC didn’t offer us much of an attacking outlet but on at least two occasions he was there tracking the fullback overlapping and sliding in to stop the cross. You can complain about his end product but try to find yourself a striker with that level of commitment for the team, you’ll be looking a long time. Doc was an absolute monster as well and Coventry covered so much ground.I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a contrast between defending genius and a lack of ability to complete a pass after we scored though. I swear we just have only completed one pass. It felt like the adrenaline was running through the players so badly that they were overrunning and overhitting everything, but that was a small price to pay for the 3 points. Tonight we can just be proud of our team.17

Lucky they did not play our first team!!!!34

Yeah, not his best performance but in no way was it "disinterested"Talal said:

PWR but after draining the bottle of Lidl's finest ...

What an unbelievable backs to the wall performance from our brave lads ! Absolute heroes, each & every one .
My old 'ead's in a bit of a mess as I try to come to terms with what we've witnessed tonight so I'll keep it short & sweet ( like AFKA ....) .. in fact I'm in danger of losing the plot so will merely add that although it's very difficult to choose a MOM tonight, for me, it has to be Doc. Bless his cotton socks.
Onwards & upwards with our mad as a box of frogs gaffer & his merry men ! What a team !
Fanny loves them All
