Let’s just hope we haven’t been ‘spying’ on any teams.

Seems a ridiculous rule to me.
How bad would we be if we hadn't?!
Must have employed a double agent for the game at the rusty toolbox.

Southampton broke a written rule in order to get an advantage. In my view Boro and Hull should contest the final, and Southampton should be docked 12 points next season.
The idea of a financial penalty does not suit.
Unlikely. The hearing is just four days before the final. I’d imagine a few of the Boro players might have gone on holiday and even if they are available the decision to give them Southamptons place in the final would only give them two days to prepare. Delaying the final wouldn’t be fair on Hull.
Edit : BBC Sport saying final could be delayed.

EFL Statement: Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final

    General

    14 May

    Words: EFL

The EFL can today provide an interim update on the ongoing disciplinary proceedings involving Southampton following Tuesday’s Championship Play-Off Semi-Final Second Leg.

The Independent Disciplinary Commission hearing will take place on or before Tuesday, 19 May.

The exact date remains under discussion and is expected to be confirmed shortly.

The Commission will issue its decision as soon as possible following consideration of the relevant submissions and evidence.

As the proceedings are being conducted by an Independent Disciplinary Commission, the EFL does not control the proposed timetable.

Notwithstanding this, the EFL continues to plan on the basis that the Championship Play-Off Final will take place as scheduled on Saturday 23 May, with the kick-off time confirmed as 4.30pm.

Supporters should, however, be aware that the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings may yet result in changes to the fixture.

The EFL has a number of contingency plans should they be required, which also includes consideration of any appeal process, if required.

Ticket Sales for Championship Play-Off Final

Hull City and Southampton will share further information on their respective sales processes later today.

Sales will be subject to usual terms and conditions, and in the circumstances, fans are encouraged to pay particular attention to the terms and conditions.

Likewise, supporters should consider the situation when booking any associated travel and accommodation.

This decision follows ongoing coordination with the Clubs to ensure that on-sale arrangements can be implemented as soon as practicable.

The League recognises that this complex situation has caused concern and disruption for supporters, particularly those making travel arrangements, and will continue to provide as much clarity as possible.

However, in these clearly exceptional circumstances, the League considers this to be the most appropriate course of action.

Typical EFL though. Why the delay in holding the hearing. Thrown everything into the usual confusion on anything EFL. Hull are becoming the victims here.

Hull are going to be the potential biggest losers... If this gets sorted after next Tuesday, they've got a few days to start properly preparing for facing Southampton OR Middlesbrough, because at the moment they could be facing either.
Southampton AND MIddlesbrough, can train properly, knowing full well who they'll be facing.

I’d imagine the ‘Boro squad are already in Marbella (or wherever footballers go on their hols these days!).

The only team that has an advantage is Southampton, they won’t have headed for the beach and they know who they’ll be playing if they get to play.

To be fair to the EFL (not a sentence I thought I'd be writing), isn't this done by an independent adjudicator? Meaning (presumably) that adjudicator would be the one setting the hearing date?

Not sure the reliability of his source, but my colleague told me this morning, that they’re still training on the off chance

My training in these circumstances would be incredibly half arsed. But that attitude is probably one of myriad reasons I’m not a professional footballer!

None of the Boro players would have pre booked holidays before the date of the playoff final anyway, and with the uncertainty and their own club appealing, would definitely have been aware of the possibility of being reinstated.

Indeed walking off the pitch on Tuesday, they would have been thinking that it's not over yet.

Yeah it's been widely reported that Boro plan to train until the 23rd. They were talking about that on the broadcast on Tuesday

    5,000 to Hull, 5,000 to Southampton/Middlebrough, and 80,000 to Celtic fans - that's what I've heard.
