A note from the Board following 2025/26 season

As the season comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment to thank you for your incredible support and to reflect on another year of real progress across the club.

Just over a week ago, we witnessed an unforgettable day at The Valley as Charlton Athletic Women secured promotion to the Women’s Super League, the top tier of women’s football. To see that achievement unfold in front of a record home crowd made the occasion even more special, and it stands as another powerful marker of how far we have come together since Global Football Partners’ takeover in 2023. 

We are immensely proud of everyone who has contributed to the women’s team in recent seasons. Huge credit goes to Karen Hills, deservedly named WSL 2 Manager of the Year, her coaching staff, the players, and all those working tirelessly behind the scenes. We are equally grateful to the supporters who have followed the team across the country and helped create such a fantastic atmosphere at The Valley last weekend and throughout the promotion campaign. 

Season tickets for the women’s first-team are now back on sale and, at just £80 for adults, offer outstanding value with some of the biggest names in the women’s game coming to The Valley next season. We have already seen record numbers sold, and we would love to see as many of you as possible continuing to back the team and helping us build on this momentum.

The women’s promotion comes less than a year after our men’s first-team earned promotion to the Championship. We are proud of the progress made under Nathan Jones and his staff. In a short period, we have gone from 16th in League One, with average attendances of around 13,000, to securing Championship status for a second consecutive season and recording our highest average league attendance in 17 years at 20,066. 

Our academy has also continued to shine, most recently with our U18s winning the Professional Development League title, another reminder of the strength of our pathway and the talent coming through.

Alongside the progress on the pitch and the rise in attendances, we have seen encouraging commercial growth, and we were honoured to receive the EFL’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Gold Award, becoming the first London club to achieve this recognition and one of only four clubs across the EFL.

A number of years ago, we set out the Board’s vision for Charlton: to become the most cohesive and sustainable community‑driven club in the UK, competing at an elite level. That vision continues to guide everything we do. While the journey has had its challenges, we are proud of the progress made so far. There is still much more to do, and we know the summer ahead will be a busy one both on and off the pitch as we prepare for next season and beyond.

    How does it work budget wise, as it all goes through the one structure? 

    Do GFP provide a budget for the total running of the Charlton brand which is then divvied up between Mens, Women’s, Academy?

    Or are there defined and segregated budgets for each?

    Ultimately, I suppose I’m interested in will the promotion of the women’s team and the need for a substantially higher budget for that impede in any way on the budget purposed to the men’s team?

    Well the Women's team is technically a separate entity. There is no regulatory reason for budgets to be impacted by each other's success. It all depends on how deep the owners want to dive into their pocket. Owners are only able to put an additional £4m into CAFCW, that would only buy you one and a bit Charlie Kelman's. Shouldn't really impact the men's team

    As most of us know we are regulated by the EFL as per our allowed losses.
    Does anyone know if there are similar limitations in the WSL?

    Yes, can spend 80% of revenue + £4m of investors capital

    But, if you're a Chelsea or Arsenal you're revenue base is huge, so the £4m is still a drop in an ocean

    A good season for the entire football club, with both teams outperforming their budgets. Tough seasons ahead, particularly for the women, but I feel comfortable that with these owners and the leadership / management structures in place we are heading in the right direction.

    I hope we can all show some patience with both teams and the board; we have been poorly run for a very long time and its refreshing to see some sensible decision making from the people running our club.

    Just as long as they dont put a shelf on which has a 45 degree angle or then coat it with anti-toot chemicals before every match. Both of which should be criminal offences imo.

    heard from a friend of a friend (so take with a pinch of salt) that they're looking to stick £7m in,  don't know if that's additional to anything else  budget wise or just another £7m to hopefully not piss up the wall like most of last summers signings

    Absolutely refreshing to have sensible owners who’re ambitious, realistic and seem to have developed a history for learning from mistakes and getting the right people in (eventually).

    You say eventually, it took them less than a year to get NJ in the building, and then he got us promoted in his first full season with us, and then kept us up last season. 

    There's a fair few clubs out there with owners that they've now had for a decade or so, constantly spinning wheels and not actually achieving anything.
