Hopefully they will be asking enough to scare off the Laurence Bassini's / Mouthall's / Dentist's of this world.NabySarr said:Main fear here is that they are going to want their money back so that’s setting the asking price already of at least £65m, and they probably want to make a profit so add some more on top of that.
Will someone come in for us at that kind of price? I know there’s a lot of American interest in investing in football but it feels a bit far fetched to me that they’ll be able to get that price7 -

I don’t understand why we’re not seen as an attractive investment opportunity, London club, decent facilities & fan base - any other clubs get all kinds of suitors, not us though - look at Amanda Staveley, could probably get us a lot cheaper than investing into West Ham.Probably answering my own question but I guess the Roland Duchatelet puppet hanging over The Valley & Training Ground puts people off - what was it £50m to buy both back & then the same again to buy the club & that’s before investment in the squad and people.1

Can Tanto Olaofe be converted to a central midfielder?42

As some are saying, it explains the summer window. But also makes NJ's "kept our powder dry" comment interesting. Who knew what and when and all that? We have about 4 weeks to find out if that's true, or if this summer was always going to be done on the cheap. I think these owners know enough to know that we need to be in the Championship for them to get their money back. But will they invest more money into something they're going to sell? I really don't know that they would.
It's just all very depressing.
Let's also be honest that the root cause of this is, at least in part, the fact that all clubs outside of the Prem lose money. And even in the Prem, they sometimes lose money (as we did which is part of what sent us on this spiral). We're always going to be at the whims of rich people until things on that front change. I don't have a good way of changing them, as I don't want to suppress player wages and I don't want to increase things like ticket prices, but I also don't know how to make the maths add up.5 -
Has Chuks Aneke got enough rental properties to launch a bid?23

I’m sure we are all hoping our next owner is another fan of Range Rovers and “Bitches”0

Might not be news to them. Would make sense why Jones, Ramsay & TC have been stalling on signing new deals.panther10 said:Can see a few players wanting out after this news
And I hate to say so......but I did say a few weeks back that actions need to follow words in terms of signings. And why we have signed a few "freebies" and not bought the desperately needed midfielder.
But. We're not in dire straits & not going to go bust. But I think the plug has been pulled on any major signings.

I did wonder why there wasn’t any press allowed at The Valley for the Reading game3

We're too much in a middle ground. We aren't a massive club like Newcastle and we aren't a small one like Brighton, Brentford & Bournemouth were. Our running costs are too high to overhaul something straight away but our commercial deals aren't enough to make us a draw. We're stuck in no mans landNorthStandUltra said:I don’t understand why we’re not seen as an attractive investment opportunity, London club, decent facilities & fan base - any other clubs get all kinds of suitors, not us though - look at Amanda Staveley, could probably get us a lot cheaper than investing into West Ham.Probably answering my own question but I guess the Roland Duchatelet puppet hanging over The Valley & Training Ground puts people off - what was it £50m to buy both back & then the same again to buy the club & that’s before investment in the squad and people.14 -
I've said it before, the owners pockets are deep but their arms are very short. FFS lack of investment in the team this summer puts us in a poor situation, if we get off to a poor start who's going to want to cough up & buy a club hurtling back to Division Three.Mendonca In Asdas said:Could be good news if the owners pockets aren’t deep enough.
Or could be totally destabilising ie player contracts not getting renewed, the timing is awful.0 -
Wonder if we should let Richard Rufus have a go as CFO.?3

None of the players support Charlton. This news won't affect them getting paid their salary, I highly doubt if any of them care at all.panther10 said:Can see a few players wanting out after this news16 -
My take, it’s news to the majority but yesterday’s chip wrapper to a few ITKs and the board themselves.
They have been after additional investment for an age and have continued to fund player signings, ground improvements and the overall wage bill while doing so. No indication they are doing a complete plug pull.
These are extremely wealthy men and you don’t accrue that sort of wealth through business without having your head screwed on. They will know what relegation will
do to the value of their asset.IMO this won’t affect whatever budget has been set for this season and we will continue to work within whatever that is.
You can only assume that someone isn’t happy that the new investment hasn’t been forthcoming and is trying to force the issue and or reach a wider audience. In the short term (this season) I am not concerned, however things could get a bit more seat of your pants if the status quo drags on.35 -
Season ticket advert line “this is what commitment looks like” has not aged well50

Well they should have invested a little more in player recruitment.jondon76 said:If they're selling there's no way they can afford for us to go down this season.3 -
There was one player who was as close to a Charlton fan as we're likely to get but he plays for Blackpool nowPelling1993 said:

This is a really good point. We're in a really weird position where we're probably too expensive for an MCO/Network type bid with someone that owns other clubs in Europe but the big bucks sovereign wealth funds and NFL owners wouldn't deem us worth a look.fenaddick said:

Time to call up Infantino he knows some people with a lot of cash…..0

We would be worth next to fuck all if we got relegated. I'm pretty sure the owners know that too so I think they'll do what they can to keep us up.2

Depends who it was leaked by. Sometimes things get leaked deliberately to get things out there.FishCostaFortune said:
So why has it been leaked now?Airman Brown said:
If I’d had it I would certainly have published it myself. I didn’t but the fact that they were approaching people to try to sell the club isn’t new.Bedsaddick said:
Did you leak it ? If not who ?Airman Brown said:The only “event” here is the leaking of a document. There hasn’t been a new decision to sell.Sometimes though it isn’t deliberate. Football clubs are not normal businesses, there’s an emotive and supporter element involved. When these financial ad packs get circulated to banks, investment groups etc it’s not unusual there ends up being a fan connection in receipt, or someone who knows a fan who’d be interested.8 -
