Meet the Directors this evening - 13 August 2026

I thoroughly enjoyed tonight's Online Fan Meeting.
I love Jim Rodwell.
In truth he's a bit of a rôle model for me. But I thought that he did let himself down on a couple of occasions tonight. Here's my grossly unfair critique of tonight's little episode:
1) A quartile, Jim (and Gavin), is a statistical term related to frequency distributions which, I suspect, you have little idea about. I think you mean 'quarter'. I do accept, though, that the use of the term 'quartile' makes you sound so much more knowledgeable.
2) Your beard and hair colour are quite different. This looks slightly odd, so I think you might need to choose one or the other and standardise.
3) Jim ... when you are in a public-facing rôle, try not to look like you are keen to catch the next train which leaves in five minutes. Also, don't look at the sky when Gavin is waffling. Finally ... nice legs.
4) Numbers are not 'bandished' about, Jim. Indeed, I don't think that it's a word. Maybe you mean 'bandied'?
5) The relationship with the owner of The Valley will always be good under the current terms, Jim. You are paying him a substantial amount for doing nothing. Also, great to hear about our successful investment in water retainers at Sparrows Lane. Yaay.
6) Elliott loves an acronym and delightfully 'ticks a box'. Yaay.
Apart from that ... it was wonderful. Jim sounded so eloquent and intelligent.
I love him.34 -
This was about the pre season show sound but tbh I had to crank it up on both when using the app on my tv. Don’t believe there’s a pre season show thread although Brownie predicted us 15th, Curbs 10th and Kevin Lisbie has us making the playoffs in 8th 🤯 Was an enjoyable watch though and made me realise what a loss regular Charlton TV is to us, despite Brownie being on commentary fairly regularly.Bejam said:
Looking at the timings, were these comments about the pre-season show on YouTube, rather than the "meet the Directors" thing?mart77 said:
Yeah my sound isn’t great but good watch though.Lewis Coaches said:Is it me or could the Mikes be better, or placed in another place.
In any case, is there a thread on the pre-season show that I've missed?2 -
I know it's de rigueur to shit on a lot of things about Charlton, but I find the Rodwell obsession a bit weird.18

I thought the directors did a pretty good job and was telling as much as they can, somethings have to stay confidential and they dont wish to talk too much, often we see on here people who have a tidbit of information and then refuse to say any more and get the hump if asked about it, obviously directors can not do that so they are better off playing cards to their chest. I often hear stuff that isnt public knowledge but wont discuss here unless I feel I can without exposing any sources. When asked about spending or squad do you really think he should come out and say "tbh guys theres no cash and the squads not good enough, we are f**ked aint we guys?"
Honestly its like section of our "supporters" actively want the club to fail and wont be happy unless a name they remember from "the good old days" is in charge of the club or the club operates all of its business completely publicly.10 -
Another 10,000 season tickets at £395 just to close the gap in revenue of the 20th club ranked in the championship?.The £4m difference.4

I thought he let himself down with 'stand on your laurels' where 'rest on your laurels' would have been more appropriate ... and not to mention correct. However, I very much liked the sound bite re succession when he said, 'Irrational decisions on the hoof surrounded by a load of noise'. I may use this one myself in a future CL post.Dave Rudd said:I thoroughly enjoyed tonight's Online Fan Meeting.

Cat 1 application going in
Undersoil heating to be up and running if required
Possible player coming in from Wrexham
Dick Law heard from
All good news on another meet the directors bi annual event.Though fans self policing the smoking in the Covered end toilets is not advisable in my opinion. Could end up rather smelly.
Very good questions from the fella from Mod Mag. At first I thought where are the fans advisors/advocates but the club can decide who they have on, it’s their decision but Carter and Rodwell were challenged by the questions towards them from Gavin Billenness. More of the same please from whoever is asked to appear on the next one in January.
Maybe an open meeting that was asked back earlier this year5 -
I can understand if people don't like him on a personal level but as far as I can see he's doing his job at least adequately well. Not sure why his every appearance and statement seems to trigger such a pile-on.sam3110 said:I know it's de rigueur to shit on a lot of things about Charlton, but I find the Rodwell obsession a bit weird.

Because most of our fans are sweaty losers who live in their parents basement, playing cod, eating in wetherspoons, sending their money to OF models, cant speak to women unless they are behind a computerscreen, complaining about TC and complaining lifes too hard, that they should have things handed to them whilst complaining about people on benefits. Of course they hate an alpha chad like Rodwell who takes care in his appearance, wears rolex's and is probably pulling left right and centre.sam3110 said:I know it's de rigueur to shit on a lot of things about Charlton, but I find the Rodwell obsession a bit weird.
For avoidance of all doubt (and the snowflakes) the above is a joke.7 -

Danepak said:Rodwell has gone with the Brad Pitt look.

A Lincoln mate who knows Rodwell had described him to me as “bit of a big time small town Swiss Tony weekend millionaire guy”.Hadn’t really seen it until I saw his attire for this session but seems apt based on sartorial choice!
Good watch and reiterated in my mind that I think Gav Carter is a good man leading the club. Academy application good news, and let’s hope it’s approved8 -
Whoever compared him to Brad Pitt has obviously never seen Brad Pitt !7

As said above I think he is doing a good enough job in trying circumstances and a section of our club wouldnt be happy unless the people in charge had the name Varney or Murray.allez les addicks said:Danepak said:Rodwell has gone with the Brad Pitt look.

All that said id bet £100 Rodwell owns a convertable and takes the roof down as soon as it hits 10 degrees.6 -

I’m not sure if it’s because we’ve had such clowns at the club previously my standards are quite low but I actually quite like Rodwell1
-
I imagine I couldn't stand being in his company for more than 5 minutes but he seems to have done a good job working with Nathan which is why we're going into another Championship season tomorrow.Crispywood said:I’m not sure if it’s because we’ve had such clowns at the club previously my standards are quite low but I actually quite like Rodwell
It's still fun to have a laugh at him though, he's so brilliantly naff2 -
It’s more he appears to be justifying his existence on no doubt a big salary. It isn’t obvious (and maybe it can’t be) what he does that the likes of Phil Chappell don’t do.If it’s Rodwells expertise in negotiating contracts…0

First thing my spuds supporting partner said when she walked into the room, who the hell is that (JR), Simon Cowells brother? and after watching him for 5-10 minutes, "Christ, he looks disinterested and clearly loves himself a bit"
And that's from someone who had to deal with Mourinho and Conte.
He was clearly only there because he had to be, seemed annoyed and frankly put out that he had to be answering to and dealing with us plebs.3 -

'Our football operation is better than others' - the evidence is there in results over last 3 years, mainly down to NJ most likely but i think some of the negativity about these 2 is OTT. I also hear GC when he says basically, if you want more and better signings, get down the ground and put your bum on a seat. I won't start my usual 'get a season ticket' rant coz that's boring but its plainly obvious - increase revenue, increase investment in the team.1

Well. Call me old-fashioned, but I believe that we should use words when we understand their meaning. Not to sound superior.
Simon Jordan is another culprit.
However language evolves, so please continue to use the word 'quartile' at every opportunity. In that way you can eventually get the word to mean exactly what you (and other heretics) want.
Sick, eh?3 -
