    Was a bit worried by how deep we sat and how little of the ball we had immediately after scoring, but the game has evened up since then. West Ham still having plenty of the ball but we’re not just sitting on the lead and, dare I say it, we probably look slightly the more likely to score the next goal.

    I have to say, I always thought that, as long as this new look Charlton team can play with the same organization and work rate as last season’s team, then the additions of Grant, Chalobah plus Leaburn and TC having a spring in their step meant we can be a threat on the break. I always thought we had the makings of a tough opening home fixture for a newly relegated team that everyone says will stroll the league.

    You can beat a Nathan Jones team, but you won’t beat them without being “at it” and not being “at it” is always a risk early in the season for newly relegated teams. 

    Long way to go in the game, and we still have to see if our early season fitness levels can sustain this for the whole match, but it’s been a great first half hour and West Ham have work to do to rescue a game they were expected to win.
