It’s not even just injuries, it’s freshness. If we’d played our first team, got turned over here and then looked lethargic against a Preston side we need to be targeting 3 points against who have rotated a lot of players tonight then people would likely be more upset. There’s risks either way.

By the end of the season I do expect Mesik and Ouma to be in the first team and while Sichenje isn’t likely to overhaul Jones he’ll be an excellent option for when Jones inevitably picks up some kind of injury. I wouldn’t hate Knibbs doing enough to be getting in ahead of Carey either, there’s some big opportunities here for some players

Concourse is a joke. A million degrees and all the beer machines not working. Stick your billion pound stadium up your arse.
Im pasting this in the Fans bar thread

To all those who wanted some of our top players out there today. You’d genuinely have been ok if Jones had played and picked up a knock?
for the sake of trying to get to the carabao cup 3rd round?

He could get a knock on the training pitch, at home, driving his car.

There's a risk with everything. Anyone that doesn't want to try and win every game we're in is weird to me.

    PWR.

In my seat. Lovely looking stadium & great view but I hate these new stadiums. 2 ticket checks & soooo many stairs  won't be coming back here again  - nearly gave me a heart attack.

Unlikely any of us will be for the foreseeable future.

Yes he absolutely could. But we can guarantee he won’t get one in this game by not playing him and keeping him fresh for Saturday

Also mugged off over the team. If you ain't going to take it seriously then don't enter..

I have no doubt that Jones wouldn't enter if that was an actual option. He's focussed on the league and only the league. I am honestly surprised how many people seem surprised by the  number of changes.

Of course there’s risk in the other places but that doesn’t mean it isn’t sensible to minimise it where you can. It’s why we wear seatbelts.

And I don’t think anyone’s said they don’t want to win?

Club can't win, play the first XI, Leaburn and Bell get crocked, we get spanked 4 nil anyway and you'll all be up in arms about it.
But then we lost Godden to a training ground injury. You can't wrap footballers up in cotton wool 24/7.
So if we put out the full team, win but get 2 injuries in key positions and it culminates in a downtown in League form and a relegation, I'm sure we'd all go "hey at least we beat Spurs in August"

It's not a popular choice, but playing a rotated squad is the right choice in the bigger picture
I've never said we should play the same 11, but this is taking it to extremes, with Brookes and Asiimwe starting,  and TC not even on the bench. I bet the rested players would have LOVED to be out there tonight,  this isn't Cambridge away. Baffled why Jones couldn't play for example,  he's fully fit,  and centre backs aren't sprinting up and down the pitch. Him at CB, Sichenje at RB, and the defence looks much stronger. Instead we have no leader there

Realistically we're not going up, and with our squad shouldn't go down either. It's cup games which give the excitement to an otherwise slog to lower midtable.

And this isn't January after the Christmas schedule,  in the rain. The players have played 3 games in nice weather. Muscle injuries can happen in training, as with Godden, but you don't cancel training.
Also next month most of our squad will get 3 weeks off (i know we will probably play a couple of friendlies) when it's the international break. So they could rest then if playing 3 times in a week in August is too much for them.

How does 3 weeks off in September/October help if they're being overloaded in August?

Expect no decisions in our favour today folks.
