Great getting all these clean sheets, but we are supposed to score some at the same time, still another point to the tally and on we travel to Wales where Cardiff await winless in 21st place on 4 points, no doubt their fans will give Nathan a warm welcome... surely we will score next week, yes next week, we actually have a whole week to prepare...yipeeeee

That was a penalty on leaburn at end. Clear. But we should of took our chances before then.

We cant play skipp and Coventry together at home. No creativity and they dont move ball quick enough.

Love Leaburns displays but wish he would attack the near post especially when Tyreece is crossing.
Well...we can, we should, and we will
And we will continue to not score goals or create chances. Enjoy!

NJ only making one sub is ridiculous….could see players were tired…don’t think you can play Skipp and Cov together if u want to score
One of the best CM displays in years and you come out with that? What exactly could they have done? Tell our forwards to cross and finish better, and say pretty please?
Same type of player….Cov played well and Skipp was ok….great tackle to stop a breakaway….but who is going to play the creative role?
Managed to get in good positions on the wings numerous times, but lack of quality from Campbell/Grant/Alli/McNamara meant these good positions were wasted.

Skipp/Coventry looked decent. Once Chabaloh fit we will have good depth there.

Sorry, do we hate our manager taking gloriously petty digs at not-even-technically former players? Do we condemn this? Games gone

Well not pretty to watch but we have a new squad, new formation, players already missing, a ridiculous schedule but we've got 3 clean sheets, 3 wins and  3 draws which isn't bad.

With Billy, Kayne, Josh and maybe Chaolloba to add to the numbers we can still improve.

We do though need to be patient.

My only question /concern is does Leaburn need more help alongside him?

Is Grant working well or does anyone think Kelman will be coming in to replace him?

I'm more hopeful than last season... We look tough to beat and that's a good thing.

However, we need to avoid the banana skin next week as Cardiff are yet to win, so get something, get to the break and regroup with hopefully some players coming back.
  • 1 goal in the last 4 games but Jones will spend his time making digs at ex-goalkeepers. Christ.
Maybe he spent the second half coming up with that zinger rather than making subs.
You are a sad sad sad person.
  • Conflicted after that. Leaburn and Coventry outstanding, Skipp growing with each game, I like how Mesik plays, Grant looks good in the middle. Yet 2 points from the 2 home games feels disappointing.

Whilst cock in hand at the thought of his team going top of the premier league tonight.
  • Shit ref aside, that was 2 points dropped from a winnable game, nj has harped on about playing Wednesday Saturday Wednesday, players are fucked and makes 1 sub, grant and alli had to come off for knibbs/carey & the young winger from Wimbledon, what do these players Ned to do to get a game when half the team are fucked?
    so disappointed!
  • 3 games in a row we have lost to poor refereeing decisions, this time to Andrew Kitchen who suddenly decided to cover one eye after half time. Robert Madley we all expect to be bad but Kitchen is usually one of the better refs, but something happened  at half time and he decided to turn a blind eye to Pompey's fouls and book leaburn after their player had his hand around  his throat. As for the penalty and the blatantly obvious corner that Kitchen and his lino decided should be a goal kick, enough said.
However the idiot who threw something at the referee as he disappeared down the tunnel should be banned.. Boo if you like but throwing anything costs the club future decisions and money.

Shame we didn't turn that first half display into a goal but another clean sheet, the midfield looks decent, we're 2 points off top still and we've definitely cast out that Stoke result as an aberration. We've also done infinitely better against Pompey than we did last season, and what may be important down the line is that we haven't given a possible basement rival any gained points on us. We need to go in search of that next win so the first three games aren't a distant memory but if we can go and get 3 points off Cardiff and come out of the international break hopefully with a lot more players to choose from it'll be an incredible start to the season
This is where I’m at - we’ve struggled to find a rhythm going forward in the last 4 games, but if you can’t find a win, don’t get beat.  I’d like to point out just how tight the division is after 7 games.  As much as we’d like to push on up into the middle of the table this season, survival is still absolute priority.  We’re 8 pts off 4th from bottom tonight.

It will be bloody tough next week as Cardiff will be desperate for their first win going into the intl break, but if we can go there, frustrate them, nick a win, 15 points after 8 games is solid - they’ve got a week to regroup after 3 midweek games in a row.  Solid start.  Onto Cardiff

Not expecting many to agree with me here, but I'd have VAR in the Championship...

Or at the very least automated corners/goal kicks, half the time officials just guess
A week or so ago I would have disagreed with you but looking at some of the nonsense officials have thrown our way during the last few days I'm starting to think that as The Championship is fast becoming a Premier League 2 in all but name it needs to have officiating that stands up to scrutiny along with its top tier brethren (not that the Premier League is perfect in that regard) clearly it does not. The Campbell disallowed goal v QPR and the penalty call today could cost us come the end of the season, hopefully it won't, but these are very fine margins, it affects all clubs of course but the cost of these errors can be high.
Poor ref decisions wouldn't matter if we were already 2 nil up at the time. When you are relying on refs getting a decision right to win a game then you havent done enough to win it imo.

Our chances created is one of the worst in the League. And not just this season either.
  •  I haven’t seen the replay but am I imagining that the defender pushed Leaburn forward with both hands on his shoulders, which in turn allowed the defender to head the ball away without a challenge?

They would have to play a lot better than they have so far this season when given a chance.

Clearly in the minority but I quite enjoyed that. Thought we looked tonnes better than a Pompey side who are no mugs. Lack of subs was baffling, Carey nearly came on at one point but we took the momentum and stayed sat down from there. It’s a good foundation to build from

We played well but couldn’t score. I didn’t get the lack of subs, that might have been what we needed to find that winning goal.

Pompey grew into it a bit more second half but we handled it.

Coventry and Skipp played well. I don’t get the calls for replacing them with a creative player. They won the ball and fed the attacking 4, including some very good forward passes particularly from Coventry.

We’re not signing a defensive monster who can also drive forward with the ball, beat players, pick out killer passes and score goals. We’ve still got Chalobah to return, Mwamba to develop and Ouma to settle into Championship football, so let’s see how CM plays out this season. In this formation the two deeper midfielders aren’t there to add flair and creativity, at least not with our budget.

TC was our main outlet as usual, but Pompey often got back in numbers which forced him to cross into a packed box. Despite that he still beat his man and got some dangerous crosses in.

Leaburn’s all round game was good, just need to create a bit more for him so he is a bit more of a goal threat. That push would have surely been given as a free kick outside the box or in the box on a smaller player - always seems he’s less likely to win a foul due to his size.

Alli showed potential at times but felt he needed to come off earlier than he did. Shame we didn’t give Nkeng a run, though I get why Grant stayed on, set pieces aside he showed why he’s played at this level for years with his technical ability. Not convinced about him as a set piece taker.

Okonkwo continued to look a great signing, still early days but if he keeps it up I hope we sign him permanent. Mesik and McNamara looked solid again, more good defensive recruitment since Jones came in.

It’s a game that feels more winnable but got to be happy with 12 points after 7 games. Not looking forward to break with no club football but hopefully a positive for our squad with all the injuries.

    No, but it's funny
  • Our defensive structure under Jones continues to be superb. Yes we should have won but it’s another clean sheet and more points with all these injuries shows we are evolving.

A point at Cardiff would be acceptable but I really do fancy us to go there and win! UTFA!

Have to say, we have been hard done by the last few games but I didn't think there was enough in that for a penalty. He put his hands on his back but I thought leaburn did his best Tom Daley impression. Thought we were great first half, and crap second half... 2 points off top still, onwards and upwards

Are we allowed to criticise that one or is it another great point at home?

If you're going to create one chance all game, you have to take it.

One chance? Off the top of my head:
    • Grant had one excellent chance that was saved and a couple more half-chances.
    • Alli had one excellent chance he should have buried and a couple more half-chances.
    • Leaburn fouled in the box not given.
    • In the final five minutes there were multiple scrambles in the Portsmouth box.
    Frustrating, but we’re creating chances.

Scrambles aren't chances. For all the pressure at the end, did we ever look like scoring?

Their keeper made one meaningful save (from Grant) all game.

Not there today & neither did I watch it online so cant comment on the match itself.  But......

    3 games without a goal
2 goals in the last 5 games.
Only one team (Lincoln) have scored less than us, and they also played a game less too.

Nothing had really changed from last season with regard to our attacking intent. Nothing in midfield to create chances & Leaburn is not a "sniffer" or fox in the box so any half chances go a'beggjng.

As for NJ and his non use of the subs. Just baffling. Never want to hear him moan about fixture schedules or muscle injuries again.

All that from someone who didn’t bother to go or even watch the game online . 😂

Every other team has played Saturday and midweek as us, so that is not an excuse.
