Agree. If the best wingers in the league can get 10-15 goals and assists each that's still a lot of games where they'll get neither.crookester said:Back to "TC has no end product again" it seems. Indeed, no goals or assists this game but could he maybe be cut some slack for gifting Alli the simplest of opportunities from less than 3 yards out? No? Thought not
He's been one of our best players this season, which is a step up from being a regular starter but really dividing opinions due to his lack of end product last season.3 -
Looks like we've gone back to the Ronnie Moore of last season!!RonnieMoore said:Campbell was sadly lacking today .. lost count how many times he failed to get the ball across in good positions .. after excellent few weeks we gone back to the Campbell of last season sadly ..3 -
He didn’t have an excellent pre season . He played better than he showed last season in a couple of games against poor teams . This is one decision that I back Nathan Jones fully .Clem_Snide said:Not sure what is going on with Knibbs either.
Had an excellent pre-season and seems to be completely in the cold at the moment. Deserves some game time in the 10 role imo2 -
Enjoyed the game today, much more entertaining than it was on Wednesday. Thought we played very well but disappointed that we didn't manage a shot on target all second half. Changes could've been made sooner but I'm not confident any of those on the bench are better than the tired versions of our first 11, at least it wouldn't have given me more confidence that we'd score.
Coventry my MOTM but impressed by Skipp also. Grant has a terrific engine on him and thought Alli had a good first half. They doubled up on TC at times but we were still able to apply pressure which shows that we have more dimensions this year. Blindon a bit shaky again so the sooner Koumetio is back the better.
It's 2 points dropped because I thought Portsmouth were really poor but it was an improvement on the last couple of games. Just need things to click a little more between our front 4.5 -
I and amongst the ok efforts he got 3 or 4 very good deliveries in that just evaded players and on another day wouod have been goals. What he fidnt do today was get into a striking position and my view is he could swap with Grant more when grant is playing 10.Simonsen said:

Hopefully something to work on when we have some tome training0 -
The thing about evolution is that it takes billions of years.
I still think the team has come on since last season. We were pretty much constant hoofball and now we are playing through the thirds a lot more. We looked a lot stronger than Pompey until we tired after 60 mins.
This is a team that looks like it can consolidate this year and build again next summer. I don't know what some of our fans want if they're unhappy with this in our second concurrent season in the Champ. We've not been in this position in a decade.

Shows how far we've come in a couple of years that some are unhappy. I thought we went into the season light in the centre forward position and have been praying Miles kept going. It's another work in progress season in my opinion and we're well on course for consolidation after the survival one previously.1

I think you can appreciate the progress in recent years while still being disappointed we haven't beaten a poor team at home.Chunes said:The thing about evolution is that it takes billions of years.

Feel like needed four points from the two games this week.2

8 of those 9 subs are Jones signings. The remaining 1 is an exciting young talent who has looked excellent in the minutes he has had so far.Stig said:Entertaining game, disappointing result:
👉 Far better than them in the first half.
👉 Looked tired for much of the second, somehow we found some energy at the end.
👉 Skipp and Coventry seem to be building an excellent partnership. I find the criticism of them baffling.
👉 The quality of our tackling today was on a whole new level. The timing, the power and the determination. First class.
👉 Leaburn played that first half like a man possessed. I so look forward to him scoring. Got a feeling the dam is gonna break.
👉 I get the criticism of Nathan re the subs, but TBH no one on our bench inspires me either, so I wouldn't be too harsh on him.
👉 Once again the officials had a shocker. It's like amateur hour, except that these guys are really well paid. The quality of reffing absolutely has to improve.2 -

What £39.50 a ticket gets you. 18,836 for a Saturday game against Pompey, with a full away, is terrible, especially considering the start we have made.42 -
If Nkeng inspires no one, and Nathan Jones doesn't fancy him, then he should be in the U21s setupcharltonbob said:

Concerning that a manager raging about the intense schedule on a daily basis only used one sub. That game was screaming for some fresh legs to finish them off. So disappointing.11

I thought we were marginally the better side in the first half, with Pompey looking more threatening in the second. In the final analysis, I don’t think either team really did enough to win it.
Okonkwo, Jones, Coventry, Skipp, Leaburn and TC all did well. I was particularly encouraged by the Coventry/Skipp combination, although we need to decide who is best to play in front of them.
One thing we really do need to improve upon is our set plays. We had several corners but practically every first header was from a Portsmouth player, which is unusual for us, given our aerial strength at set plays. Arthur also overhit a couple of late second half free kicks straight out for goal kicks, when we had a chance to put some pressure on the opposition.
A little frustrating for what was a winnable game, but it’s another point on the board and an improved performance from Wednesday evening, albeit against a lesser team than QPR.

All Marlon pack did was chase the ref around trying to tell him how to referee🤷🏻♂️cs1986 said:

I genuinely don’t get it. For me they’ve been our brightest area1 -
I was incredibly frustrated at the final whistle. Alli has to hit the target. Keeper was very fortunate to save Karlan's chance, which he didn't know much about. Penalty for Miles. They've done more than enough to win that game. I get that it's still finer margins than we would like, but we aren't suddenly so good that we should be expecting a lot more.Croydon said:

3 games without a goal
2 goals in the last 5 games.
Only one team (Lincoln) have scored less than us, and they also played a game less too.
Nothing had really changed from last season with regard to our attacking intent. Nothing in midfield to create chances & Leaburn is not a "sniffer" or fox in the box so any half chances go a'beggjng.
As for NJ and his non use of the subs. Just baffling. Never want to hear him moan about fixture schedules or muscle injuries again.
But seeing as many of our games have been on tv (and I went to Spurs) then I think I've only missed today & West ham out of the 9 games we've played.
So like I said to another poster.......stick that in your pipe & smoke it !4 -
Thats difficult as we dont play in midweek, and only have Cardiff before the International Break nowMrOneLung said:Feel like needed four points from the two games this week.

I’d like to see more involvement from Karlan Grant, seems to flit in and out of games, wish he would influence them a bit more, especially when moved into the 10 role.1

Good performance which makes for a mediocre result. Not taking our first half chances really doomed us. Right now we seem to be a 1-2 big chances per game side. In our first four, we took them. On Wednesday night, I would argue we took it and it was given offsides. Today, we didn't take them and that's incredibly frustrating because Pompey, while they defended well and countered decently, were there for the taking.
I do think last season we lose one of QPR or today's matches. To me, there's definitely the shoots of improvement, even if it's not a full spring yet.
I said it at the start of the season, but Jones has us playing in a "broken" 4-2-3-1. Four defenders with neither fullback getting too far forward (though Mesik had more forays today than others have of late). Two sitting midfielders. An attacking three behind a lone striker. That formation puts a lot of pressure on the 10 and the two wingers. Alli is not a natural RW. He wants to get the ball and cut inside. He's one of four LWs we have in the squad, and our one natural RW didn't even make the bench. Grant played on the turn and took up good positions, just lacked that bit of link up play and vision. Carey has looked off it this season. JRC can pick a pass but doesn't influence games enough at times. And that puts a lot of pressure on TC. I thought he did alright today, delivered some good balls in and some not so good balls in. But we can't just rely on him for a moment of magic. We need others to play their part as well.
Miles is a bona fide Championship striker now. He just needs a goal or two to go in and I suspect he'll start scoring more consistently. But even if he doesn't, his presence is fucking immense.
On the Cov/Skipp thing--my worry coming into today is that, playing in that "broken" 4-2-3-1, you need to be finding players in between the lines. Coventry did that today. Not everything he tried came off, but he was very good once again. I thought Skipp did well to put tackles in and get into passing lanes. We lack the composure of a Chalobah on the ball, and unfortunately I think he's the only player in our crew of deep-lying midfielders who has that bit of quality. But I thought Skipp and Coventry did their jobs very well today, and the problem came further forward.
We now have a much needed midweek off followed by a trip to a team we really should be looking to beat, then a ridiculous three weeks off. It was great to see Kelman back today, and hopefully Edwards isn't too far behind.
Oh, and yes, the sub was about 5-10 minutes too late, and JRC or Carey should have come on as well.8 -

Agreed . I was there today with my son but at £37 a pop in the Curbs stand , it won’t be a regular thing as it has in the past along with the bag checking shambles and it being almost impossible to park near the ground , it will only get worse .superclive98 said:

Also, it's very early days, but we're in bloody sixth. For a team tipped to go down, that's pretty damn good.19

Our attendances are down on last season , 2 big home games below 20k after a good start ,last season quiet a few games 20k +1
