First car was a 1964 Wolseley Hornet, Grey with red leather interior paid £160, it was written off by a Merc Van outside Woolwich Market and the bastard drove off.....I found him a few days later though!...second car was a 1970 Vauxhall Viva £250...was in fantastic condition, but was a hideous starter....no matter what I did to it....was written off when a dog ran out in front of me, I found the owner and claimed off of his house insurance and they paid out £400, so I invested it in a 1959 Mini which I had for about 2 years and cost me £60.....in between cars now, just sold my Beast, 2005 BMW Z4 3 litre, but have the run of a couple of company cars...a little Fiesta Ghia and an 07 Megane Cabrio

Vauxhall HB Viva (Green). It cost £200 and was unbelievably bad. It kept misfiring. I replace all the electrics - still did it. I replaced the Carb- still did it. In the end a mate who was a mechanic decided it was a compression problem and we dismantled the top end of the engine, replaced the valves, springs, valve gear and had the valve seats re-cut. Never forgot it. It was better after that but eventually the body work just fell apart and I scrapped it.

I replaced it with a white Triumph 1300. This lasted a while but, being a front wheel drive and British, things just went wrong. I went through several front wheel bearings and CV joints. Eventually that went to the scrapyard.

I now drive a Hyundai Santa Fe (New type) 7 Seater 4x4 SUV. Bought it new. It's just great. Approx 40 to the gallon (diesel), leather seats, aircon etc.

Only bought my first car at 28 in New Zealand even though I passed my test at 17. It was a Nissan Prairie that I bought from an Auction in Christchurch for NZD1800 - It was a great car to get round the whole of NZ with for 6 months - my missus used it for work while we were living in Wellington and then I sold it to some German Backpacker for NZD2250 - She didn't even haggle, I couldn't believe it when she said I'll take it and didn't ask to reduce the price even by a hundred or so.

Started with an all agro (son of the max I). What a pile of poo. Me and my mate had one. Mine was yellow, his was red. We had a race down to the kent coast. Both neck and neck, 3 mile tailback due to neither of us giving an inch. Finally engine gave up on it. When a mechanic looked at a possible replacement, discovered the word F***ed stamped on the engine block. Last time i bought a car from Charlton Car Auctions.

My first car was a Mini Cooper. I paid £500 and it was written off within two weeks by a speeding milkfloat of all thing. Second car was an Escort 1300 mk2 and I traded that in for a Capri with fury dice and go faster stripes. Won't say what I'm currently driving coz I don't want to incur the wrath of Ketman et al :0 )

First car was a yellow 78 T reg Mini. 850cc! Loved that car. Died when the engine mounts snapped and dumped the engine on the road.

Now share a 55 plate Fiesta with the Missus.. don't really need anything else due to commuting.

Best car I ever had was an 02 VW Golf GTI 25th Anniversary. Was very sad to see that one go.

First car was a 1.4 Fiesta F37 HEC - loved the little thing, old look but probably a bit too quick for an eager 17 year old. The clutch blew doing about 80 on the m25 on the way to Chessington World of Adventures and then when i went to uni i got rid of it.

I then bought another m reg fiesta which lasted me throughout uni.

Since working don't bother having a car due to the commute - i just can't justify the associated costs. If i need a car i'll use my mum's mondeo or dad's vauxhall signum.

First car was an old red Fiesta which I ran into the ground about 15 years ago, have had numerous cars since (nicest one being a 2 door Mazda which has sadly gone due to baby arriving...)

Now share a new Fiesta Ghia with the missus, really nice little car to be fair, same as Medders really, don't really need anything more as she uses it.....as long as my golf clubs fit in the boot it does me!.

I had a red VW bettle , old N reg , loved that motor .

I owed my brother 100 quid so I gave him the Bettle , he sold it to the ice cream man later that week for 250 quid

An 1100 Fiesta, sold it to another Addick.

Now have a 1970 MGB Roadster and a 1.0 Polo for running around.

I'm using the wife's car to drive to Preston. It's an Uber girly Peugeot 206cc so I'll have to take plenty of porn and clash/jam cd's to redress the male balance!

I agree I am trying to convince my sister to get one as her first car but for some reason she wants a VW Polo.

First car I drove, me and my brother shared it, it was a peugeot 'champion' 106 and it was rubbish. my brother managed to dent the side door so you could only climb in through the passenger seat, the choke did nothing, and we used to pray the whole way to college that it would make it there. they had to pay the council to take it away in the end.
first car I bought was a 1.4 silver ford focus. was rather too big for me, but was bullied into it by the ex. when we split up i left him with it.

I don't have a car now, although looking at buying a vw fox in the new year, but drive my parents polo as and when i need to.

    D reg gold VW Polo.

Was my mum's runaround and had spent the previous 5 years going no further that Bexleyheath Broadway. Had it a few years then sold it to Razil about 8 years ago for £500 i think. Only had about 35k on the clock.

First car was a 1300S two door 'box' astra...ETY 340W, paid £1400 for it 1987...traded that in for B reg Vauxhall Nova 'Swift' which lasted til I graduated in '92....then sold that for £700 to put towards my round the world ticket...then went without a car for years as didn't need one living in Greenwich (altho Mrs CC had one for commuting to Kent for work).

Bought a P reg convertible golf from my old employer about 2001 and had that for a few years before trading it in for Peugeot 307SW nearly three years ago when CC Junior was born. Dog of a car and being replaced next Sept as soon as I finish paying for the b*gger.

Wife had a Puma for years which was fantastic, but now she got a VW Polo diesel, which I quite like driving.

Just sold a CBR600 and ride a Vespa PX125 (old style, none of this twist and go rubbish) to work every day - easily the best way to get around town.

This post has been a fantastic read.

I passed my driving test at the start of september, but due to a lack of funds I've yet to buy a car. My 1st car will probably be an old escort or Astra, cos the thought of driving round in a shoebox on wheels terrifies me.

I've only just read that post.

1.8 is probably a bit too big for me. Would cost around £2.5k to insure.

    Great thread!!

First car was a G reg Austin Metro, lovely colour and did me really well until I went down the ledge route and bought myself an XR3i convertible, without equal the best car I've ever had but also like Ledge I was getting pulled almost weekly in the thing, gun metal grey and immaculate. Stuck to the road like glue and women loved it. Only problem with convertibles being we live in a country that does not like staying hot or dry for long. Also owing to the amount of vermin that live in Chatham I could never park it anywhere out of my sight.

Sorry at present driving an Escort estate until I sell it then I can drive the Passat I've just bought.

Orions have not been made for a very. very long time Ketters!!

My second car was a 1.6i Ghia Orion.

Nice to drive but complete shi*te when it came to reliability.

One of my old cars that i miss the most has to be my old Peugeot 205 1.9GTi. It was a dark metallic sorrento green limited edition, had a rather large exhaust on the back but could match any car away from the lights up to 60mph no problem. It even embarrased a Porsche once.
