It took 20 mins minimum to get served.....it didn't help 2 staff (he could've done with 4 more tbh) not turning up but to run out of beer on the biggest game of the season. . . .
[cite]Posted By: suzisausage[/cite]the sarcastic posters on the walls in there don't help either.
What were the posters, Suze, for those of us who avoided the place?
Trial Period
It has become clear that people do not think we are doing a good enough job at serving people quickly (even with 8-10 bar staff) so we have decided to only offer the following for tonights game.
Fosters
Strongbow
Guiness
John Smiths
all at £2.50
No top shelf spirits available. Soft drinks at usual prices and bottles as normal.
Something like that. it was the dig about the 8-10 bar staff, which I can honestly say, i never remember them ever having that many! unlucky that 2 people didn't turn up, but thats still shoddy. where were the landlord and landlady? did they put in an appearance? the staff looked shellshocked, moody, sweaty, and didn't know what they were doing. they sersiously need to rethink things. I appreciate it was busy, but i don't think they did themselves any favours. there were no systems in place for getting served, there were people there for ages but if you happened to be in the right place you got served straight away.
Its just a shame, as if I drink elsewhere, all of my friends that i meet up with won't necessarily go elsewhere, or the same places....
Thanks, Suzi. For a moment I had visions of Salad from CharltonLife pinned to the wall - sarcastic posters, get it? Oh never mind...
We went for a meal at the Chinese by the station - despite ordering the banquet when we booked and several times after we arrived, they never got beyond the starters in an hour and a half. The beers kept coming, though, so clearly a better bet than The Oak!
[cite]Posted By: Carter[/cite]Liberal club is where I will aim for the next game then. Any others?
Yep I'm there. Really couldnt give a toss if the wallpaper is peeling off the wall. All I want from a match day pub is a decent pint, served reasonably quickly. The Oak simply can't provide either any more
The decor does not fuss me, I normally end up standing outside whatever the weather anyway so as to be able to breath and not have to move every five seconds for someone to get past.
Decent pint, within a reasonable time, a decent price would be a bonus.
One thing is for sure though I do not intend drinking in either the Bugle or the Oak for a long time

what happened in the bugle then carter? i noticed the 'medway massive' all leave pretty sharpish, was this for the same reason?
We just decided to move on I think, nothing happend to make us leave. I know Carter had some trouble getting in, due to lack of season tickets despite the fact we drink in there all the time. The landlord basically said he didn't give a damn about football fans as we didn't make or break his business.
[cite]Posted By: Ketman[/cite]What is wrong with the Bugle exactly ?
Likely to be my last time freqenting there.
Landlord made it very clear that the football side of things mean very little to him, and if anything an inconvenience.
Was making people show their season ticket books to go in, if people had Charlton shirts on and match tickets he was turning them away. One group of 6 had had 4 season ticket holders, and one other wearing a Charlton shirt, but he said he would let 4 of them in and turn the other two away. As i was at the door at the time i said as nicely as possible "come on mate, he's got a Charlton shirt on' and got told to fcuk off for my troubles.
I have quite low expectations of a pub in and around a football match: half decent beer (available), reasonable service taking into account the demand, working toilets and not too scummy. If these basics can't be met then there must be some questions over how things are run, but I am not going to let it get me too much up in arms.
i think i might drink in blackheath on saturday and jump on the 380 at about 2.15.
That means waking up earlier, heh.
Looks like it's the lib club for us then, the Bugle has been going downhill for a while, remember Carter and myself being served beer 'before the gas had been turned on' not that long ago.

swan is ok when its warm as it was for scunthorpe at home at the beginning of the season, i'd be happy to head there or the anchor when its warmer, its pretty grim inside though.

Sounds good to me, is that the one with the burger wagon out the front or is that the con club?
And nowhere near as far up the hill

Walked out of the Oak after the game. Running out of lager is poor. Sums it up really, when they ran out of beer before the game.
One bloke was calling the Landlord all names under the sun.
Bloke doing his nut was a local as well I think. . .
As soon as they shifted out the old barmaids out the place took a real dive.

I thought they run out beofre the game to the bits and pieces I heard.
Plenty of cans outside.
Like others said 3 extra staff to make it 10 would have help YES there is space and they could afford the extra staff without question.
Pre pulling of pints why did this not happen? its simple and would have helped its not rocket science.
Even like others have said sell cans one person outside or even one outside one in the garden selling cans would have helped the traffic flow inside.
Maybe a porto loo in the garden to help the traffic flow inside.
Last pint traffic lights would help LOL
Yeah bugle whjat happened we got there first drink you all started leaving was it Gingers deodorant i know it was shite ;-)
Disgusting attitude really.

So..............Antigallican for the Watford game?!!
Im sure he would notice teh takings as its always packed in there when ive been there on a match day
Looks liek a boycott it is
Anti he we come????
The away fans can walk up the hill its easy to find
Royal Oak doesn't exist!
Right, so we're boycotting the Oak and Bugle, the Horse has shut down and we're not allowed to take the Anti....
We did the tin thing outside the Oak on Friday, so will try the hip flask this weekend ;-)
That means waking up earlier, heh.
