Bit too jazzy for me. Blue is better and so depressing. I love it.

Neil Young is good for some miserable times as well.

[cite]Posted By: falconwood_1[/cite]My fave Nick Lowe song is 'Love is a battlefield', brilliant lyrics.

    Wish he'd play live here.

Where's here? I thought he did a few London dates recently.

    You can't beat.........

Told my girlfriend I'd gotta forget her
Rather buy me a new carbureter...

The emotion just pours from lyrics like that.

NOT TO BE READ WHILE EATING

    Another Nick Lowe Classic

    MARIE PROVOST

Marie Provost did not look her best
The day the cops bust into her lonely nest
in the cheap hotel up on Hollywood west
    July 29

She'd been lyin' there for two or three weeks
The neighbors said they never heard a squeak
While hungry eyes that could not speak
said even little doggies have got to eat

    chorus:
She was a winner that became a doggie's dinner
She never meant that much to me
    Whoa oh poor Marie

Marie Provost was a movie queen
mysterious angel of the silent screen
And run like the wind the nation's young men steamed
When Marie crossed the silent screen

Whoa she came out west from New York
but when the talkies came Marie just couldn't cope
The public said Marie take a walk
All the way back to New York

    -repeat chorus-

Those quaalude bombs didn't help her sleep
As her nights grew long and her days grew bleak
It's all downhill once you've passed your peak
Marie got ready for that last big sleep

The cops came in and they looked around
Throwin' up everywhere over what they found
The handiwork of Marie's little dachshund
    That hungry little dachshund

    -repeat chorus-

    poor Marie

    Into the valley
    Betrothed and divine
    Realisations no virtue
    But who can define
    Why soldiers go marching
    Those masses a line
    This disease is catching
    From victory to stone
Ahoy! Ahoy! Land, sea and sky
Ahoy! Ahoy! Boy, man and soldier
Ahoy! Ahoy! Deceived and then punctured
Ahoy! Ahoy! Long may they die
    Out of concealment
    Blank and stark eyed
    Why so uncertain
    This culture deceives
    Prophesised, brainwashed
    Tomorrow's demise
    All systems failing
    The placards unroll
Ahoy! Ahoy! Land, sea and sky
Ahoy! Ahoy! Boy, man and soldier
Ahoy! Ahoy! Deceived and then punctured
Ahoy! Ahoy! Long may they die
    Time for the audit
    The gathering trial
    A collector's dilemma
    Repositioned and filed

Greatest Song Ever in my opinion of course

All this talk of getting old
Is getting me down my love
Like a cat in a bag waiting to drown
    This time I'm comin' down
And I know you're thinking of me
As you lay down on your side

    Now the drugs don't work
    They just make you worse
But I know I'll see your face again
    Now the drugs don't work
    They just make you worse
But I know I'll see your face again

But I know I'm on a losing streak
As I pass down by your street
And if you wanna show, just let me know
And I'll sing in your ear again

    Now the drugs don't work
    They just make you worse
But I know I'll see your face again

So baby, Woh- if heaven calls, I'm coming too
    Just like you say
If you leave my life, I'm better off dead

All this talk of getting old
Is getting me down my love
Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown
    This time I'm comin' down

    The drugs don't work
    They just make you worse
But I know I'll see your face again

So baby, Woh- if heaven calls, I'm coming too
    And like you said,
If you leave my life, I'm better off dead

But if you wanna show, just let me know
And now I'll sing in your ear again

    Now the drugs don't work
    They just make you worse
But now I know I'll see your face again
Yeah- I know I'll see your face again
Yeah- I know I'll see your face again
    Oh- now
Yeah, I know I'll see your face again
Never coming down, Never coming down
No more, no more, no more, no more, no more, no more
Never coming down, never coming down
No more, no more, no more, no more, no more
    Oh- now
Yeah, I know I'll see your face again

As I recently mentioned it's sometimes hard to keep our spirits up at the game. The despair felt in watching Charlton lose yet again is brought clearly to life in this melancholy ditty by Nick Drake (RIP). Superb, if, as I say, a little on the sad side. If you don't know it, please find it and give it a listen. Mr Golightly and I have it on our his 'n' hers IPods:

A black eyed dog he called at my door
The black eyed dog he called for more
A black eyed dog he knew my name
A black eyed dog he knew my name
    A black eyed dog
    A black eyed dog.

I’m growing old and I wanna go home
I’m growiing old and I don’t wanna know
I’m growing old and I wanna go home.

A black eyed dog he called at my door
A black eyed dog he called for more.

Henry, if we're talking classic Billy Bragg lyrics I have to mention "How can you lie there and think of England, when you don't even know who's in the team?"

take heed, coz I'm a lyrical poet
miami's on the scene just in case you didn't know it
my town, that created all the bass sound
enough to shake and kick holes in the ground
cos my styles like a chemical spill
rhymes that you can vision and feel
    conducted and formed
this is a hell of a concept
we make it hype and you want to step (with this)
    shay plays on the fade,
    slice it like a ninja
cut like a razor blade (so fast)
    other DJ's say, "Damn"
if my rhyme was a drug
i'd sell it by the gram
keep my composure when it's time to get loose
magnetized by the mic while I kick my juice.....
if there was a problem yo I'll solve it, check out my hook whilst the dj revolves it......

    That's a good 'un

    I also like

"Gilbert and George are taking the piss aren’t they? Gilbert and George are taking the piss. What could be more British than here’s a picture of my bum?"

Its a bit of banter with young Henry. About 20 mins of Joni is enough for me.
