[cite]Posted By: JimMelrose[/cite]Well done Zenith dishwashers - amazing that they got this far really.
They were the best team in the tournament, did you see the Bayer Leverkusen or Bayern Munich game?
We were going to watch it at Piccadilly gardens, the screens did work, which I think is quite outrageous surely these things are tested before an event? There were at least 20,000 people at the gardens, the place was rammed, some people had climbed trees to get a view. If you piss off that amount of people you are going to upset a few bad apples amongst the bunch.
A message on the screen told us to go to the velodrome which they claimed was 5 mintues away.
-There were no directions as to where it was, the police just lined the streets and only responded to individuals asking them for directions, 90% of them had no idea and seemed not to care or sense that trouble was brewing, thanks for the help guys.
-We walked at a fast pace and it took35-40 minutes, why lie to fans that you have already let down, who have taken time off of work and have boasted the economy so much? And more seriously, been drinking all day? After the game we stayed well clear from the city centre!
Unlike at the velodrome which was a great (unadvertised, 'there will be no screens near the ground') place to watch the game, the city centre had preciously 0 extra bins laid on, hence the rubbish on the floor which was amazingly all cleaned up by midday Thursday and no toilets, which led to people urinating in public, and that's just adding to # ISawLeaburnScore's points. A complete shambles as the chants stated.
I don't excuse what happened, and I'm embarrassed to be associated with it, but if there was better organisation (or even some sort of organisation) it wouldn't of happened. Perhaps now I'm finally understanding the scousers, ha ha!
It's been reported in newspapers as a "last minute" thing...
yet - it had portaloos, an array of overpriced food and drink and dozens of safety officials (more than in the city centre!)
absolute bullshit was it last minute... it was a safety ploy to mop up anyone that turned up at the ground
as it was the velodrome was half-empty, at least a few thousand more could've been accomodated thus taking off a little strain from the inner areas...if they hadn't have kept it all a big secret they might have helped themselves out
PS. Friend_or_Defoe - we got a taxi from Piccadilly to the Velodrome and then had to walk for at least 10mins further after the road was closed off, it was a ten minute DRIVE, lying b******s
