I have always maintained that Marcus Bent is a very good striker at this level and I wish we could afford to keep him; he is better than any other striker we have on our books. Even when we went down I thought he generally played very well for us when Pards came in (ie. when JFH wasn't playing) and was unlucky not to get a few goals.
His lack of goals plus his celebrity lifestyle is at least part of the reason for his unpopularity - plus of course the fact that under Curbs and Dowie he didn't always play well and was maybe more focussed on his nightlife than his football.
He's the personification of everything that is wrong in football these days - no loyalty, in it purely for the money and the glamour and only makes an effort when he decides to, even though he does possess some talent (allegedly). Will be delighted to see the back of him.

Spot on.
When Pards came in I thought he played really well in a crap team. He chased the ball down and looked interested. Yes, he done the old injury feigning thing (I think) but he was a alot better.
[cite]Posted By: AFKABartram[/cite]So the question remains, have we all got it wrong regards Bent ?
If you look round other football forums, most Cardiff fans seem pleased, and neutral fans of other clubs seem to think they have made a great signing.
Are we being overtly harsh because his face didn't fit, or that we can't afford his wages ?
Cardiff seem to think he will be on £15k a week. I really can't see him taking a £10k cut in wages, can you ?
He may well do well at Cardiff but Bent was one of a few stones around the neck of this club and as such needed to be disposed of asap. No matter what he achieves at Cardiff no one will ever convince me that we made the wrong choice in getting rid as he appears to set every bad example a senior pro could set for younger players coming through.
I think it was his lack of goals, and bite even against lesser teams, couple that with his wages and apparent attitude and your on to a loser there. Good luck to him though.
He's a 20 goal a season man in this division, no questions, but his wages are a killer for us, and the money we've freed up hopefully can go elsewhere.
I think he'll get five or six goals in the first five or six games. Then a recurring hamstring/ back injury will restrict his appearances for the rest of the season. Apart, of course, from miraculous goalscoring comebacks v you-know-which-team.
Why wouldn't Cardiff fans think they have a bargain? He has a good goal scoring record at this level with Ipswich and performed well last year in the Prem with Wigan and before that he did ok with Everton.
Think of it this way - if a striker in his late 20s was coming to us with his record what would be thinking?
His problem was his face didn't fit, he most likely didn't get on with the management and there were too many non-footballing distractions in his life.
u know u gotta feel sorry for poor old marcus. As some on here say its all those "outside" footie distractions that have made him errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr f**kin sh*t. My heart really bleeds for the poor fella. Clubbin every nite, Gemma on his arm, £20,000 a week FFS how does he cope ?

I believe that when we signed him he was made the highest paid player in Charlton's history.

However we will see
1. His wages
2. His attitude
3. His lack of goals and effort for us
4. The fact he has a tattoo of his own name on his arm.
He should be a 20 a goal man easily, but lacks the heart and desire in my book
I'm sure he would say different but that is what I see.
The injury time winner he scored he scored at Southampton for Everton a few years back was a fantastic sales job for him.
If true then maybe some of us shareholders should take a better look at the last two years published accounts.
As for Bent dont give a f**k what he does as long as he f**ks off. As for "get into teens" the only way he will do that is in a club in cardiff.

Hasn't failed his medical has he? ;-)
Heard he's checking out the nightclubs first.
that's what I'm beginning to worry about, should have been done and dusted by now. UNLESS another club has entered the fray !!

They have hijacked the deal
