Isn't that the reason why they sold Zamora, Pantsil, McCartney and Ferdinand.

Icelandic companies have been told to sell lots of their foreign assets and bring the money home

What comes around, goes around, eh - at least where their dodgy deals seem to be concerned...no sympathy for them since the Tevez debacle.

No more than they deserve after the disgusting way they treated Curbishley.

West Ham claimed today that they are unaffected by the Icelandic banking crisis. Maybe that is because the club is personally owned by the Banker bloke. On the other hand did he part with his own cash or cash leveraged from their Bank?

oooooooooooooooooooooooo thats all right then like Northern Rock / Lehmans Brothers/ etc etc etc etc said.

Jan transfer window will b f**ked who will let clubs take big money out of their accounts and who will sell without geting the readies up front ?

Didn't it all change at West Ham with how they are owned / run? Hasn't Egghead taken a back seat & left it up to someone else? I could be talking complete bollox of course!

Egghead's gone mate. The major shareholder is an Icelandic Banker whose company, I believe, has just been nationalised.

just spoken to a pal of mine who had moved his money from banks here to that bank in iceland over 60% of all him and his wives money, everything they have worked for and saved hard for and they can not move a penny out and are not Guaranteed a penny will be coming back to them.

very solid lovely family hard working honest and good people and the effect could be a catastrophey if they cant get their cash

the real effect of this credit crunch is the people like them that in 10 years were looking to stop working and relax a bit now may have to change their whole future plans

Only a couple of the West Hammers owners companies have gone bust so far, he has money all over the shop so may yet be ok. That said he is one of the main guys behind Bauger who own half the British HIgh Street so that can't be doing well either.

As for compensation upto £50K, as the first £16K is guaranteed by the Icelandic Govt which itself is in trouble of going bancrupt people may only get back the bit between £16-50K!! - Icesave has savings totalling £4.5 bn. Iceland as a country had a GDP of £6-7bn and 300,000 people...where will ther govt get the money from?? Hope i am wrong.

    don't agree with it myself

if you were greedy and fell for the unrealistic 7% interest these Icelandic banks were offering and you got your fingers burnt then I don't see why we should have to bail them out

they knew the risks - or they should have researched them properly before shifting their cash over there

The payouts will come from the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. This is paid for by levies on the banking industry. The £50k figure is a 1-for-1 thing.

How can it be serves you right for getting your fingers burnt FFS

if you were buying shares and you get burnt fair point but if you are Investing YOUR money that YOU have worked for that OTHER people loose it is not fair, It is the same as robbery or being mugged

Kaupthing has just been put into administration as well.

nth london addick - shares go up and down, it's a gamble as well as an investment. Unfortunately, people were encouraged to think of them as a no-risk investment over the past 20 years.
