What did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was five, I wanted to be in Pan's People (giving the age away a bit there...), then I realised I couldn't dance very well and wasn't glamorous enough.

When I was 13, I wanted to be a sports journalist, then I realised you have to make up most of the stories, and I was too honestly brought up for that.

So now I'm in marketing...

  • Writer (Tony Parsons was my hero)
  • Footballer or lazy git ,or both.

Regrettably succeeding in the second one, put paid to getting anywhere with the first one!! :-(

Now I just don't want to grow up at all and would be happy to spend all day doing radio because I found out far too late that I actually love it, but it doesn't pay the bills so I'm stuck doing mega boring stuff like most of the population.
  • Footballer, when that dream died it was to be involved in football in some capacity, that didn't materialise so i'm stuck as a Railway Engineer!
  • I haven't grown up yet but when I do I want to be a retired old person
  • [cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]Tony Parsons was my hero

He's a little bit older than me. 6 years I think. This was when I was a spotty teenage fanzine writer.
  • There's still plenty of time to write that book, Henry, I'm sure.
  • Rich and interesting.

  • Started out wanting to be a plumber, then a chef....became neither
  • olympic swimmer.

i gave it up when i was 14 tho as was boring and going nowhere.
  • This will go down well with GH:

    A Journalist.
  • Guitarist in a band...gave up 'the dream' aged 24 when we still weren't signed, so I got a job at a record company instead...

Lack of focus in my 'career' is one of my regrets - seems to be that everyone I know / went to school with is much more successful (materially) and happy in their work than I am :-(
  • A footballer or lead guitarist in a noisy rock band, then as I grew a little a fireman (so I am half of one of the three and the one that does not pay shed loads of cash)
  • footballer, cricketer, journalist, accountant , gambler
