  • Do Uber drivers pay tax? Do AirBnB renters pay tax? Who is checking if they do?

If you are not paying tax and NI, you are able to undercut Black Cabs, not withstanding the Knowledge vs GPS.
Well I am thinking of opening a Turkish Barbers myself

It is far, far harder to evade tax as an Uber driver than it is as a black cab driver.

    Weren't you a chartered accountant?

Account based and auditable vs cash - not that I'm saying either avoid tax, because I have no evidence.
  • I can’t remember the last time I was in a black cab.
Love to be able to afford it but it is a luxury spend, not really part of the mass transit getting from A to B system any more.
The only Uber I have taken ever is one called up by somebody I am with.
London public transport is cheaper and often quicker as can be walking.
I have assumed black cabs are mainly for tourists rather than the genuine transport solution that they used to be, technology has probably done for the traditional London black cab sadly.

I think the point re walking and public transport is key, for central London journeys especially.   I walk much more than I did in the 80s, while more recently I bailed out of a black cab stuck in traffic outside Knightsbridge station just watching the clock tick over.
