I feel sorry for Pardew

  • Henry, I did say 'with the benefit of hindsight' .

I , too, felt it was right to let Les go and the appointment of Pardew genuinely excited me at the time..

    older, wiser and sadder today.

You did. Pardew was the right choice at the time even if it was hard on Les. We all have 20/20 vision with hindsight :- )
  • The manager has to go and it has to be an appointment from outside, otherwise it will be same old.
That said I blame the players much more than Pards.
  • [cite]Posted By: SXAddick[/cite]One name not mentioned is Mark Robson. I understood the club rated him very highly, so it was a surprise when he slipped away in the summer 'to have a go at managing'. Not sure what he's doing now.

He's first team coach at Gillingham. Interesting after he said he wanted a go at being a manager, if not assistant manager. Pretty sure our ex-reserve player Barry Fuller is now captaining them.

    I agree with that.

As for the other bit, I have said last season some of its down to the players, but Pardew isn't getting the best out of any of them, no matter who he signs or puts in the team.
  • f--k pardew they are his players and to be honest f--k them 2, and 2 be honest im fed up listening 2 our supporters telling me we are good enough to do something in this league wake up people they are a joke and they shouldnt be allowed to wear our famous shirt we are becoming a laughing stock and im am not happy about it .
  • Great set of posts and I know that he has to go but I can`t help feeling sorry for anyone that is under the cosh.
  • who nicked my cosh
  • I might have more sympathy if it didn't seem like he was trying tefloncoat himself against any kind of criticism. Has he ever said "I hold my hands up, I cocked up the tactics on this one" rather than "we were missing RandomPlayerOfYourChoice", or "certain players didn't do themselves justice" or "we just didn't get the rub of the green"?

Have we got a full list of players he's said that about?

    Zheng
Thatcher - "Kelly has been terrific for us but I just felt that Ben's experience in and around the dressing room as well as his play would be important. So it's no slight on Kelly, he's been fantastic, but Ben has that little edge in terms of the knowledge he brings to a football team."
Youga - "No disrespect to Grant Basey but we really missed Kelly Youga."
Todorov - Said we missed him last season
Ambrose - Said he was one of the important players coming back from injury
Primus (and Holland really) - he talked about bringing experience back into the team because of our situtation

He's also said McLeod will be a big player for us recently.

If he's still here when Racon is fit I can see him saying he'll add something to the side.

He was even saying it back then. Let in 4 goals away at Arsenal and talked about no Young, Hreidarsson, Reid or Bent.
  • Frankly, I don't give a stuff what bullshit the manager comes out with at his conferences. It's results we need and we haven't had nearly enough. If he's arrogant or timid, lucid or turgid, it doesn't matter, if he makes the team successful, thats all I care about. I certainly don't feel sorry for him. At £800K a year, he's got nothing to cry about.

  • 8.40 and he still aint resigned, how about a mass e-mail assault on waggie to let him know our feelings?

To be honest I think nothing more than a whip-round to pay off his contract will work.
  • There is nothing much wrong with the team that leadership ON and OFF the park wouldn't put right.

    Where are those leaders?
They don't appear to be at Charlton currently.

To be honest Bing, nor would I normally. It's just the inconsistencies and contradictions seem to be further evidence that he doesn't know what he's doing.
  • How can you feel sorry for someone who is incompotent at their job, and gets paid a vaast wage every/month. The guy is a disarster and what compounds his selection and team performances are the irritating statements he makes after a defeat

    Spot on.

what happens on the pitch is what matters. If I never saw or read another post match interview with a manager my life would be no poorer.
  • If it were to be a combination of Powell & Kinsella, at least you would have two people at the helm who actually have a passion and love for the club.

Personally would like to see Big Sam or Billy Davies, if & when Pardew walks or we bin him.
  • I didn't go to the Bristol City game (Thank god)...Was the crowd reaction to Pards out as loud & clear as it was on Saturday?

If not, Pards is now clearly well aware of how the fans feel about the current situation. I'm prepared to give him 3 more games to turn it around. No idea why mind. At the moment though I don't see how we can get rid of him (money & replacement wise).

If however, we don't pick up 6pts from the next 3 games, 3 of them coming from Southampton home then he's gotta go. I hate changing managers as it can cause a lot of disruption to the squad & after the initial honeymoon period of a new manager things mostly go back to how they were before.

If he does go then get Curbs back (I never wanted him gone in the first place), perhaps using the same method Newcastle have done with Kinnear? Short term replacement to get us out of the shit, then start looking for a new boss if things do get turned around.
