    Levi Stubbs
    Sexuality
  • What Dave Mehmet said

Prefer Kirsty McColls version of New England
  • Personally I enjoy his song-writing more than his singing. King James Version, especially as sung by Eliza Carthy, is a seriously good song.

  • Personally, I'd like to see him in a sack, with some bricks as weight, floating past the thames barrier whilst I enjoy a cold Fosters in the Anchor.

ps... I dont like him much, the anti British, self loathing, angst riddent champagne socialist cretin.

Free speech is such a truly wonderful thing......
  • Finest Bill Bragg song isn't even a Billy Brag song, its Bill Bailey's tribute to Billy Bragg 'Unisex Chip Shop'

    I agree wholeheartedly

(doesnt stop me disliking his views & comments though)
  • Tank Park Salute
Waiting For The Great Leap Forward
    Levi Stubbs Tears
    New England
    Greetings To The New Brunette
  • I have to admit Billy Bragg's vocals are a bit of an acquired taste, but he writes some bloody good lyrics.
Favourites in no particular order are

A New England - "I saw two shooting stars last night, I wished on them but they were only satellites"
Life With The Lions - "It's taken two fools such as we to make love deaf dumb and blind, now you're upset cos I can't read your mind"
Greetings to The New Brunette - "How can you lie there and think of England, when you don't even know who's in the team?"
Sexuality - "Safe sex doesn't mean no sex, it just means use your imagination"
Must I Paint You A Picture - "...virtue never tested is no virtue at all, and so I lost my ignorance"
  • "A13, Trunk Road To The Sea" should get a mention too!
  • ps... I dont like him much, the anti British, self loathing, angst riddent champagne socialist cretin.

    .......

A bit ironic you calling someone else a cretin isn't it?
  • In no order...

New England (which gives the lie to him hating England, but whatever).
    Levi Stubb's Tears
    It says here
I dreamed of Phil Ochs last night
There is power in a union

Ooh, the cutting satire is too much for me
  • Was Henry wishing to start an argument by posting this topic?
  • Well, he is a highly controversial artist, was always going to get comments.

I'm sure if I posted the 5 best songs of skrewdriver or the 4skins etc people would react, not that I would, dont know any of their music, but I would imagine its as controversial.
  • "In my dreams I would see her, running naked through the woods round Rainham,
If I had some Tigers I'd train 'em
    to protect her
from the sexual facism that was lurkin',
    round the gherkins!"

    Genius!

I'm honoured, It means so much (this is me doing by Kate Winslet impression), cry sob, cry, sniffle, sob.
  • Bragg "sold-out" years ago;
the first couple of albums were masterpieces, but then he started "towing" the (new Labour) party line.
Still love the early stuff tho (especially The "Saturday Girl").

Make that three! The guy's a total hypocrite to boot!
  • [cite]Posted By: Curb_It[/cite]Was Henry wishing to start an argument by posting this topic?

No, I would have included his cover of "All you Fascists are bound to lose" if I wanted to do that. : - )

I think DA9 is still angry cos Billy wouldn't give him one of his guitars to play : - )

Not wanting to take this thread down a political dead end but he wrote on the best articles I've read on how the left has let down the white working class and how he could see the reasons that they would vote for the BNP in Barking (where he grew up) even if he disagreed with them. His book "The Progressive Patriot: A Search For Belonging" covers a lot of the same ground.
  • [cite]Posted By: floydandharvey[/cite]Billy Bragg left wing? You're having a laugh. Google the bloke, you'll find loads of photos of him shaking hands with the Queen. And half his songs have Britain or England in the title. The guy's far right if he's anything. I won't have nothing to do with him.

    Are you taking something?
  • Ever herd of Red Wedge who Brag was at the for front of ? The gigs where stewarded by Red Action who where extreme marxists and had exiled IRA members on the lead council.

Saw a two page thing about St Georges Day by Brag nearly puked.

    I think he's taking the urine : -)
