Going on how many we are taking to Man u , we just can't be bothered. Money by the looks of it can't be an issue. 8000+ on a Tuesday night , how much is that on average per person. Of course spend your money how you want.

There's a world of difference doing it as a one off and doing it consistently. Just because people can afford to do it once, doesn't mean they can do it every other week.

Each to their own Stig. 8000+ want to spend their money on watching us play a premiership team away , fair enough. Let's not use the excuse haven’t got the money to go the rest of the season.

Surely you can see that it costs less to do something once than to do the same thing 23 other times?
I don’t actually think playing Manchester Utd away is really in any way comparable to playing another third tier team in the league. One is a major event; the other is a totally run of the mill thing.
Went away to WBA, couple of years ago. We score, one of our supporters thinks, "i know what i will do to celebrate, i'll lob a bottle in the WBA fans", then a half time another couple decide to have a punch up with the Police. Now when we leave instead of being able to go into Birmingham and have meal and a drink, we are herded onto a train down to Marylebone to wait while we have to give our names to BTP.
Didn't travel after that until Sunderland and the 1-0 win, even now we have the usual coked up herberts who don't know where the line is. Perhaps thats why some don't travel.

At the end of the day the majority of our fans only want to see us play away against the big teams. Let's not pretend it's about the money , not having the time or the teams playing crap.

Money is the excuse given for not wanting to watch unattractive teams.

There is an element of "not again" about many of our away days in L1, or grounds which you might want to tick off but not necessarily return to every season (no offence to the likes of Accrington and Morecambe)

If I tell you that I can't attend lots of games because of financial reasons, I bloody well mean it. Sure I prefer to see bigger games, who doesn't? But that most certainly doesn't mean that I can see more than a handful of aways over the course of a season. Over the years I've seen Charlton play at plenty of small teams and I'm sure I will in the future. But that doesn't mean that I have unlimited finances and don't have to budget. If you can afford to see Charlton play every away game, bully for you, but I can't. So money is not and excuse and it's not something I'm pretending about. I'd thank you for not being so bloody condescending in the future.
Away trips are expensive. When you factor in the price of a ticket, the cost of petrol or train fare, food and maybe the cost of an overnight stay or maybe even two, it all adds up. To do that for every away game would be pushing it. Even a third of the away games would be a push especially factoring in other family responsibilities. So, I can understand why people would get more excited about a one off trip to Old Trafford than a trip to Fleetwood on a bleak Saturday. Add to that the dross that has been dished up this year and it would be understandable if our away numbers were low. I actually think they’ve been pretty good considering what we’ve had to put up with on and off the field the last two years or so.

I think my miserable friend is trying to say that it is a shame that more people do not make the effort to bread and butter league games that perhaps is more important in support of the team.
The support is there, we know that from the play off final, the Doncaster game, Man Utd etc.
It's just the general discontent around the club combined with poor performances on the pitch and of course pretty expensive prices to watch league one football. Who wants to pay the best part of 30 quid to watch us lose at home to Cheltenham?
If we were in the position that say Millwall or Luton are currently in, i'm confident we'd be seeing 20k+ crowds for most games.

15k more like it.
We got 17k for Derby this season so if we were top 6 in the championship i'm confident we'd definitely be getting 20k+ and taking bigger numbers away.
Also bear in mind a lot of Championship sides would fill the away end.

Derby was about 14k in the real world, IIRC. The average away following at Charlton in the Chsmpionship is about 1,500-1,600, maybe a bit more depending on the make-up of the division.
Once you’re in the same division for a few years, playing the same old teams and it all loses its appeal . I’m sure the scums crowds despite their spawny jammy flukey brilliant run will not be that great due to just general apathy of the same old same old in the same division , towards the end of the season if they’re still involved their numbers will pick up . If we spend a good few seasons in the championship, like we used to in the average old days , I’m sure our numbers will plateau after the initial excitement and drift off naturally .

Go back to 2019 though when we started with a bit of momentum thanks to Conor Gallagher, Derby 19k, Leeds 21k.
My point was that if we were in and around the play offs then we'd easily be pulling 20k crowds. I don't see how that can be argued against.
Get this club back into the championship and doing well and (as it would with any club) the crowds will return. The support is there, it's just lapsed because we're shite.

I don’t disagree with you. I think we’d be thereabouts if we were in the top six of the Championship, unless the pricing was silly.
There was a period under Bowyer when away numbers were very good. It was often commented we were the best and noisiest fans to visit some grounds the whole season. Plymouth and Portsmouth spring to mind. If there is a bit of momentum behind the club , the fans respond. Considering the poor football on offer I think our away numbers are good.
I think we were still averaging 22k at home in our second post-prem relegation season in the championship. Although there were still some premier league plastics knocking about at that point. I think it's safe to say they're are probably all gone now!

I reckon some of that was to do with the season ticket offer if we returned to the premiership.

I agree with Stig on this. This season hasn’t been a barrel of laughs, and this is an a rare opportunity for a great night out, without having to get too stressed about the result. But it’s pricey, which is fine for a one off, but there’s no way all of these 10,000 fans could afford to shell out that much, every other week. At least I don’t think they would. Although it’s more expensive than normal, being a midweek evening game.

This is nothing new. Go back to March 1994, 7 days before Old Trafford, Bolton away, we are having a fantastic season in League and Cup. First trip to Burnden Park since 1982 and we take no more than 400/500 max up there.
We lose 3-2 and then the everyone comes out of the woodwork to queue up the following morning for United Cup tickets.
No different to our 2 recent trips to Wembley. Half of those people who went back in 2019 have probably never seen a Charlton game since.
How many going to Manchester on Tuesday will be attending the Lincoln game?
