  • The amount of money they spend on security probably crippled them. £4.50 for a bottle of Stella too. But no one's there for beer.....
  • [cite]Posted By: ValleyGary[/cite]Are Fabric & Matter owned by the same company?

    Sister companies, I believe.
[cite]Posted By: JT[/cite]the sound system is ridiculous.

It's good yeah, but for dnb Valve still shits all over it. I'd literally be Dillinja's slave for life if he let me have that system. I'd sit it in a room and never leave.
  • I can understand the heavy handed security for any 'Urban Music night'....but when you got 2000 pill heads going just for the music and to throw some shapes, its a bit OTT.
  • Maybe Matter/Fabric could set up a side business, selling all the chewwy they've confiscated at the door....... :-(
  • Yeah - Valve is better as it's desgined for Dnb. Been to one in Leeds & Newcastle, leaves your ears battered.
  • The Gallery @ Turnmills will forever be in my heart. Had so many quality nights on a friday. Another epic London Nightclub gone.

I miss Peach @ Camden Palace on a Friday aswell, altho its been replaced by Koko. Still, not the same.
  • The bass that comes off valve is literally rib breaking.

    Loves it.
  • A lot of decent London venues have gone in the past few years. If Fabric & Matter go it will be a nightmare.
  • [cite]Posted By: ValleyGary[/cite] On the subject of Matter, i thought it was only temp closed for refurb??..

It's definitely closed for financial reasons, but rumoured that it will open again in the Autumn (although not sure how likely this is). It's no surprise really, they pay huge amounts of money to put on big line ups but as time went by the club was less and less busy. Even Cocoon and Circo Loco weren't selling out towards the end. A combination of it's location, ticket prices and numerous searches put a lot of people off. It was ok for people in our area because they generally got a cab there but if you lived further out or north of the river it was impossible to get to as the Jubilee line is always shut.
It seems that people are going to more affordable underground nights these days, Shoreditch is always busy, and Cable is a good little club as well.
  • I suppose on the plus side It'll be good for T.H.A.T. club.....although thats gone seriously downhill in the last 2 years.

  • I once paid £15 to get in to Cable! Grrr!
  • Some interesting thoughts on Dance Music on this thread, but if you ain't been dancing on the Beach at Bora Bora in Ibiza you ain't lived FACT

My mate's brother DJs there, Alex Miles.
  • ValleyGary, I should be down at Tiesto again, you going? You're right about the bellends but you get them everywhere......which sucks.

Where we reckon the best club in London is now then? Cheap gets bonus points :P
  • Im thinking about it. Just abit of a nightmare being on a friday....so will have to book a day off work. Eddie Halliwell is supporting this year, so that will be sweet.

Im gonna go for Ministry, as thats where the best Trance night is.
Not really a club but I must say if there is ever a DJ at the 02 Arena, go see them. i went Tiesto in Concert last year and it was one of the best raves ive ever been to. The main floor was used as a standing dance floor but there was also people on seats dancing round the outside, looked sick.

    Agreed!

I would say Cable at the moment.
  • Some interesting blasts from the pasts on this thread - Peach at Camden Palace, quality.

Anyone on here used to go to Freedom at Bagleys? Great days 96ish.
  • Anyone used to go Bedrock at Heaven and down in Brighton ?
  • allez les addicks telling me I've probably never been to matter , priceless
  • Some great nights at the End.

  • The Cross (For True HouseHeadz) opposite Bagleys was cool, is it even still open ?

Nope. The Cross, Canvas and The Key, all closed. They are rebuilding that whole area. The Egg is still open just up the road i think.

it's just everyone i've spoken to about matter has mentioned how the security are so heavy handed and thorough there!

I think Ministry's over rated myself, have never seen what the fuss is about on the 3-4 times I've been. Btw they're supposedly in big trouble financially on the club side as well, rumours that's shutting as well. Don't know how reliable a source though, just heard through the grapevine.
[cite]Posted By: Chris_from_Sidcup[/cite]I would say Cable at the moment.
What kind of crowd you get there? Never been, will have to give it a try when back from uni
  • or SW4?!!...best day of the music calender.

Was backstage in the Shake It tent last year. Absolutely amazing day.

Ritchie Hawtin blew the roof off...
  • I had some brilliant nights in Matter, saw the Maccabees, Pendulum (Album Launch), Hadouken! and numerous top top DJ's there. The problem with it is its definitely a novelty night, somewhere I may go every 2 months at the most and it would be very line up dependent. I think what they should have done is cut down the nights open and maybe rented it to something more commercial for the rest of the time to get that sort of crowd in. Therefore concentrating on getting the big nights rammed out. Then maybe run shuttle buses from the local areas at say 3/4am. Could charge £5 per person and go to Greenwich, New Cross, Lewisham, Catford, Bromley, Eltham, Bexleyheath and then maybe send one north of the river.
    It'll be missed anyway.
  • MOOOOOOOONDAAAAAANCE
  • If you didnt have a World Dance record bag at school, you was a geek. FACT.

I had a unity one, thank you paper round!

Went to moondance (in 2005?) at SE1 and it was nothing special.

Egg's a great club. The people who go to Cable are normal clubbers, it was actually only £10 to get in, I got mixed up with some club in Shoreditch.

I wondered why they didn't do that, at least to another station, seeing as they run shuttles from exit to North Greenwich as it is. Couldn't have cost much more.

If it's good enough for Amodeus (what a dive that gaff is btw), surely it's good enough for Matter!
