but when a plasma goes it goes big time. We had ours for 4 years and now it's sitting in the spare room - unuseable. Not sure about LCD's but plasma tv's (the older ones anyway) have a very specific life span. We could refill it with gas (if such a service exists) but that would probably cost more than buying a new plasma. For me my projector is the best deal, if a bulb goes, I just replace it with another. Bigger screen - really shows off movies to their best - and can handle HD and pc.
I recently got a panasonic 37 inch s10 series for a mere £499 from comet online. full 1080P LCD and its brilliant, standard TV is just well...standard, but my PS3 in HD, the picture is unbelievable. and this TV is a Which best buy. yes i spent hours researching TV's so i know your pain, but i feel i have made a very good choice.
Had a Sony 40" LCD for 12 months or so now. Very happy with it, no backlight bleed or dead pixels (yet - touch wood) and the picture is excellent. Came with a 5yr Sony warranty too so very hopeful I'll get my moneys worth in terms of service.
