Should prostitution be made legal and be regulated by the state to protect sex workers and their customers or would it be wrong for the state to condone and to earn revenue from something that is immoral?
So, to play devil's advocate those of you who feel that it should be legalised wouldn't mind your loved one's working in a brothel or having a brothel next door to you?

now that's two different questions entirely.
lap dancing is legal but i wouldn't want my wife doing that for a living. And nightclubs are legal, but i wouldn't buy a house next to one.
Prostitution should be legalised in the form of brothels, those still working the streets should face far tougher penalties if they still do, and brothels should be maintained by care workers.
To be honest whilst Brothel's aren't legal they are over looked by the OB already cos they know that if they shut them down they'll just drive the trade back onto the street where you get pimps, the girls getting into drugs, violence and the issues of people shagging down alley ways etc. With a well run brothel, the girls are clean (ish) and protected.
should be legalised. Brothels should not be in residential areas but set up on say industrial estates so that visitors do not disturb residents. We need to get prostitutes off the streets for their own safety and for the good of the local communities. If women want to work in this industry then why stop them but make it safe for all concerned including regular health checks for the girls.
So would "punters" be willing to use legal brothels on Industrial estates where they are more likely to be spotted going in and out (of the building!!) by members of the public or would punters still prefer still illegal but more discreet call girls.
Also if prostitution is legal why shouldn't your neighbour be able to trade from his/her back room as long as they pay business rates.

Wouldn't that require "change of use" planning permission in order for the premises to be liable for business rates?

So do 'punters' not get spotted now going in and out of flats, houses etc. I personally see no shame in someone using these sort of services if they so wish. At the end of the day it's just a shag except you are paying for it. Plus you are probably safer than picking up some sort in a club and then picking up something you wished you hadn't.
[cite]Posted By: razil[/cite]The reason women are on the game is for cash, and big cash at that, the reason largely that they need big cash is drug addiction.
[cite]Posted By: ns_eb_rj_s?[/cite]Does it work in Holland?
Yes, although there will always be some sort of problems, because it attracts all kind of weird people.
Street prostitution is limited to some cities and then limited to a single street on a remote business park with limited opening hours.
Police and organisations like the salvation army keep an eye on the girls and try to pull them out of prostitution and give them alternatives, like housing and proper work.
Not making it legal is just hypocrite, because that's just denying it happens while everybody knows it happens. If you make it legal, you can control it, they pay their taxes and you can check if the women are doing it out of free will. I am not saying it solves all problems, but it is the less worst solution.

sorry, but in my opinion, that is blox.
Quite right.
The average street girl is only looking to get enough money for her next £10 fix. Not that Im any sort of expert you understand, but Ive just finished reading a book called GANGS and part of it spoke about the trade.
BJ - £10
Sex - £20
I think Barnie is getting confused with Escorts, who can charge huge amounts of money cos their clients are multi-millionaires and business men. £3-5k for a weekend away plus all expenses paid.

Basically, it's all being done by a Russian agent to distract the press from the Putin/Litvinenko/polonium story.
Wouldn't put it past them....
Maybe....but you can see it happening.

If you make brothels legal, they surely won't charge so much, therefore women who are drug addicts will become thieves instead?
OK?

I'm no expert either...;-)
Good points me old dutch. less worse indeed
Prostitution started when there was no Social Security and the very poor had to do what they could to feed themselves.
Modern day prostitutes are forced into the game because of drug addictions. FACT
