Well from the close-ups of him on the bench in the last few mins of the match, he certainly cares about winning.
Right back was a problem position for us all season this year - who knows, we might have done a lot better with him in the team, and if his long throws led to a few goals for us, then so much the better.
Oh well, we'll just have to pin our hopes on Chris Solly now.
I didn't mind him, clearly read the game well offensively. Just another Pardew signing without any real tactical and willfull influence. Positionally he and Youga were forgiven time after time for never tucking in or narrowing with the center back; unlike Youga at least he thought being behind forwards is important for a defender. If he had to turn quick defensively then his lofty head would often send him spinning and crashing to the ground.
Can't see he'd have made hardly any difference this season. He always wanted to put the balls in the correct spaces in the box, but always seemed to overhit. With the presence in the box being even worse this season how would he have influenced barring the odd goal in a draw or loss?
I will say this for him though he was always brave enough to offer himself for the ball, and take the ball up the pitch whilst trying to push the team forwards. A lot more than most our players in the last two seasons. Yet a significant ammount of Charlton fans just wanted to slate him constantly, way above say Jerome Thomas who virtually did nothing all season. If fans can throw vitriol towards a player I have nothing against him showing some disrespect back.
[cite]Posted By: 1905[/cite]I saw his name on here yesterday and was then looking for a first goalscorer in last nights game. So £5 on Halford at 11/1 and I am happy.
To be fair, he did have some shocking games for us. He some good ones too and scored a couple of times, but there were games when you had to wonder what made him go into professional football.
He's obviously got a fair bit of talent, but made some dreadful, basic errors - as well as hoofing the ball into touch too often. Though as another poster said, that may have been part of Pardew's genius game plan.
[cite]Posted By: Covered End[/cite]There were 2 reasons he wasn't that popular IMO. The first was his "hoofing" the ball.
The 2nd which I don't think has been mentioned, was the Peter Crouch factor. ie because he looks ungainly ?
More like the things he ALLEGEDLY got up to in his spare time. Much in the same way Francis Jeffers was so warmly received in his time with us for his nocturnal activities.

TBF I doubt many fans heard about his alleged activities.
I'm with covered end on this one. Hated the long ball game, which included the long throw. Not bad going forward, could beat a player but always seemed a bit off balance when defending. Can't believe he has gone for 2 mil.
McCarthy's ire was stoked in January when Greg Halford, who was on loan at Portsmouth but had returned to Molineux to attend Wolves' Premier League match against Chelsea, went on Twitter to announce: "With Steve Sidwell in the stands, read what you like into that." The following day Sidwell pulled out of a move to Wolves and joined Fulham, leading McCarthy to believe that Halford had contributing to the deal collapsing.

What did he do tel?
How brilliant am I!
I think the man is an arse though after his finger rubbing at Brammal lane.
Before anyone gives me grief I give out stick and I can take it I just found what he did completely tasteless and foul.
