The man got us relegated from the championship after taking full control of the management side of things when we were not even in the bottom 3 (if i remember rightly). His reign has been nothing but TOTAL FAILURE and as nice enough fella he is he is not good enough.

I seriously cannot believe there are people here happy (or acceptant) that hes still in place. I would rather be going into this season with no manager than have him at the helm cos he has done nothing for us. Why he is still even there I cannot understand.[/quote]

I think we were two points from safety when he took over and went down by ten. By any standards thats a bit ropey.

You are being disloyal to the club and are not a true fan :-)

But isn't Parky our manager until 1st July only ?

If this is the case, there's no reason for the main site NOT to refer to him as the "Charlton boss " at this moment in time ....( erm , is that a double negative ?)

    I'm still believing......

We are frequently cautioned not to make assumptions (for example about any takeover) until it's announced on the official site. My understanding is that the official site announced that Philip Parkinson, assistant manager to Alan Pardew, would take over the managerial role until the end of the season. As the season has now ended, and there has been no further announcement from the official site, we do not at present have a manager, certainly no manager in the way most people would understand the term. We are 'managerless Charlton' as the newspapers and the wireless might describe it.
Articles on the official site that quote Philip Parkinsons views on things, are quoting the views of Charlton Athletics assistant manager unless the OS announces otherwise.
I assume we are a club waiting to make a/the managerial appointment for next season 2009/2010.

[cite]Posted By: Chris_from_Sidcup[/cite]Well most want him gone now (myself included) but if he doesn't get us off to an absolute flyer then expect the 'Parky out' chants by the end of August

I expect them by 4.30pm on 8th August, to be repeated three days later at Hereford.

    You're asking for trouble.

If we can win our last game of last season then why not our first game of the next?

    What?

Oh that, yes. Was thinking about Charlton but Stockport seemed a better investment.

After all, it's the same league, and I couldn't stand that 'Large' geezer keep asking me what was going on.

[cite]Posted By: Athletic1[/cite]I agree with you BB, everyone now needs to get behind the manager, i don't think we played that bad towards the end of last season - Parky was left to pick up the mess made by Pardew, and now he should be given a break.
I for one don't want to see him go.

    That you Parky?

how many of us really think that our team/squad was bad enough to go down cos even though they were awful i genuinely believe that with the right management there is no way we would have gone down and that says it all for me

I'm glum because I had hoped that there would be some uplifting news for the start of the season. I note we've been informed that Viagra is going to be sold over the counter in our Pharmacies, but that isn't quite what I had in mind. In Parky's defence, everything I've read by many commentators and sports personalities says that once the rot and decline have set in and confidence goes, it's very difficult to restore, and turning things around can take a very long time. I reckon we've been way too harsh on him, but even so, I'm still feeling very glum and disappointed.

I think that is worth highlighting as amid all the hulabaloo surrounding Parky, i think that is the most concise statement anyone has come out with recently. And 100% my own view as well.

Always hear that managers think that a good pre season is a vital part of any successful campaign. The sand in our hour glass is imho running out too quickly to achieve a good pre season. Things need to happen very soon or as posted above the decline of the last three years might well drift into a fouth.

To borrow a phrase from AFKA : I think that is worth highlighting as amid all the hulabaloo surrounding Parky, i think that is the most concise statement anyone has come out with recently. And 100% my own view as well.

Unless our preparation really started months ago when we knew we were doomed?

As stilladdicted & AFKA have said above, Parky was put in an impossible position when he took charge. The club was in meltdown behind the scenes & the dressing room was hugely divided. In these circumstances, I think the guy did an exceptional job. He just didn't have the time or the resources to turn it around in time. Those who make that inane statement that "he is the worst Charlton manager of all time" have either not been watching Charlton for very long or really do have no idea at all. At least give the poor guy credit for taking it on, getting all the players behind him & making some significant improvements on the pitch before the season ended. I would be more than happy to see him start the new season still in charge.

This seems about right to me. Worst manager of all time? Ken Craggs, anyone?

'still' in charge is interesting, as mentioned above it seems no-one is in charge at the moment.

Unfortunately you do not get awarded points for "significant improvements on the pitch" alone and the facts are we were further away from safety at the end of the season than when he took over i.e. we went backwards under his management. Even agreeing with some of the factors you raised that's hardly doing an "exceptional job" is it?
