Pardew, who has previously managed in the Championship and Premier League with Reading, West Ham and Charlton, added: "They have sold me on the idea and it is down to me now to get the team correct. That will take a while but that is what I like to think I do well."
I think one or two might beg to differ!

Clearly we jumped the gun and didn't give him enough time. Obviously, after picking 38 players in one season he could not have been expected to find our best XI in a paltry 46 matches !!!
Alan Pardew didn't let charlton down, football let down Alan Pardew
I look forward to greeting his return with warm applause (or hot tea!!)
Quite. Clearly past your bedtime, even though it's the school hols...
I have nothing against Southampton, the old Dell used to be my favorite away ground, but their fans are in for a pretty big shock when they see how full of shite Pardew is.
He's already spinning the line that the debacles he left at West Ham and Charlton were the result of "fractured boardrooms" rather than as a result of his incompetence and inability to decide on a settled XI.
I don't recall him talking about his records at West Ham, Reading or Charlton atall tbh.
The only surprise in the quote above (which you will have realised sounds utterly preposterous to anybody who witnessed his inability to decide on a settled team at The Valley) is that he didn't say:
''it is down to me now to get the team correct, as I did so successfully at West Ham. That will take a while, like it did when I was building my great side at West Ham. But that is what I like to think I do well, as I proved so effectively during my brilliant time at West Ham."
What a lot you've got to look forward to. Good luck!
I don't think he'd be all that keen to talk about his record at Charlton....

Charlton fans seem very bitter about Pardew - Fair enough, I'm still bitter about Redknapp.
You seem so deadset about how much of a poor manager he is - He is better than your current manager.
I wouldn't deny that we are bitter.
As fans we thought that he had a reasonable managerial record at Reading and West Ham and, as a popular former Charlton player, would understand us and our little idiosyncracies.
Sadly the reality was very different and he "raped" (one of Pardews favourite words) our club leaving us saddled with absurdly inflated wage commitments for reserve players who were demonstrably not up to the standard required.
On top of that he blamed the Club song, fans applauding former Club legends like Dean Kiely, the location of the away fans, the training ground decor in short anybody and anything but himself for the almighty cock up he made of the job.
Parky might be a "steady Eddie" but so was Curbs and that is the Charlton way.
Minus 10 down on the south coast :-)
Hmmm, let' see. We are not exactly comparing Mourinho and Fergie here are we?
Pardew got West Ham up into the Premiership (just) and to the FACF but six months later left them in the relegation zone and in chaos he then went to The Valley and failed to keep us up, finished 11th in the CCC with one of the strongest squads in the league and then left us the next year bottom of the table.
For his part, Parky worked wonders at Colchester, got bombed out at Hull after a couple of months and then took Charlton down into League one after being left bottom by Pardew.
I don't think either is exactly operating from a position of strength at the moment but I would say that Pardew has left his last two clubs bottom of their respective divisions which is not exactly an overwhelming testimonial.
Look at the difference between Scott Sinclair with us and with Palace just after he was with us. For a manager who supposedly believes in 'total football', it doesn't stack up. He didn't have a clue tactically, nor imo motivationally, for after the West Ham win we had the momentum to stay up (but obviously didn't). From someone in the know I've heard he 'likes to be one of the lads', which is fine when players are performing, but when the going gets tough that's not going to get you far.
I wish him the best of luck but he's a massive reason for being where we are. He can not be blamed for the Premier relegation, but he wasted money on players such as Christiansen, Sinclair, Varney and Toderov, all the while leaving us with a horrificly unbalanced team.
A blagger. That is the perfect word to describe him.

£0 debt in Southampton
£30m-£40m in Charlton :-)
You'd take -10 for no debt and a billionaire owner.
He can't be any worse than Jan Poortvliet or Mark Wotte.
Lol
"when I managed West Ham, we went to Loftus Road.........."
Says it all.
no, he's probably got a 2 year plan.
not defending pardew but pardew left us 3rd bottom a couple of points from safety his sidekick/assistant or whatever he was for that reign of pardews then came in and took us down bottom and 12/13 points from safety
I am happy for you and your club to have pardew you deserve eachother
