Uncut's top 150 albums of the 21st Century

This month's Uncut Magazine (for men between 40 and 60 who like to think they are still into music ie me) has a list of their 150 Greatest Albums of the 21st Century so far.

Their choice not mine as I only have about 7 of them but for interest and debate. Where are Richard Hawley or Joss Stone? And are the White Strips really that good? It's a "rock" mag so the choices lean a bit too much that way for my liking.

  • How the hell can Nick Cave's Dig Lazarus, Dig be at 130. That's bloody criminal i'm telling thee.
  • And decent as they are, how the hell can Fleet Foxes make no 10???

I can't help thinking 150 albums spanning just a ten year period is casting the net a little far. Hardly 'definitive' stuff, is it?
  • Also two Dylan albums in the top ten. Come on.

    And Smile?
  • Who are all these people ?
  • The only two of those i own is the Queens of the Stone Age one at No.28 and the Comets on Fire at 108
  • only 2 decent albums here 4 me the rest are shite the voters must be deaf.
  • Ou est the metal?
  • [cite]Posted By: boogica[/cite]only 2 decent albums here 4 me the rest are shite the voters must be deaf.

I doubt there are any voters. The staff just make it all up.
  • the white stripes did the voting.
  • the fact the White Stripes are number 1 discredits the poll in an instant

  • I think the White Stripes and Jack White in all his guises are that good, however very surprised that White Blood Cells number 1, elephant at no 17 is by fair better. Think HarryAMuse will have comment on this listing
  • Jay Z at 66? Interpol at 53?
  • nice to see The National in there (meaningless as the list is!)
  • Nice to see Ryan Adams in the list - Heartbreaker the best of his many albums
  • well i have 8 of those listed, not sure whether that says i have no taste or the other way around?
  • Someone must like the White Stripes....they have a few in there.....I have precisely 2 of those albums in the list and neither are by the White Stripes....
  • Surprised to say I have 9 of them. Questionable ordering and countless omissions.
  • All two for me and on of those is unplayed....
    So no Pistols/Clash/Floyd/Hendrix/Beatles/Led Zep/Joni Mitchell/CSNY/Bowie . just for starters.

White Stripes No 1 ..... yeah of course

  • I got 55 of them. Good that Midlake and Sufjan Stevens are in there. Im presuming this is american too?
  • All these lists are bound to start a "why is/isn't that on it" debate which is half the fun

Dabos, who do you think is missing?

For me no Richard Hawley, Joss Stone, Roddy Frame or Nick Lowe is strange.
  • [cite]Posted By: blackheathaddick[/cite]I got 55 of them. Good that Midlake and Sufjan Stevens are in there. Im presuming this is american too?

No, British. Might even have been a Charlton Lifer involved but I'll let him/her say that if they want to.
  • That reminds me. You should check out the new Avett Brothers album.
  • Sufjan Stevens is great
  • Don't know either so we have a chat with my mates Spotify and Soulseek and see if they can lend me a copy.
  • [cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]for men between 40 and 60 who like to think they are still into music ie me

OOH... you hip cat Henry......using a 50s expression, so cool and retro.... although in my case it should really be Grandady-o

Although I though Radiohead and the Artic monkeys were the present day 'saviours'
  • Avett Brothers album is called "I and Love and You" Best Sufjan album is probably "Come on Feel the Illinois" or something like that.
