Not my favourite singer either but the"they can't play their instruments" is always thrown out at any new music especially rock and roll. Come on Sounds, you are old enough to remember that ; - )
Didn't people have a go at the Beatles because none of them could read music and George Martin even had Ringo replaced on the recordings for Love Me Do. Elvis, Little Richard etc etc were all slated for being talentless and unschooled in "proper" music
If I wanted expert musicianship I'd listen to LSO not pop music. Techincally far far superior but can you dance to it?
As it happens most of the big name punk bands were OK musicians but that wasn't the point.
Like skiffle or rock n roll it was basic music that anyone could have a go at. 60s pop/Rock/blues used to be like that but lost its way with ever more long winded "concept" albums which is way punk was needed.
[cite]Posted By: Chizz[/cite]What do you think of Johnnie Johnson?
Only know him via Chuck Berry
I met him once. Fantastic musician and really interesting man. Lots of tales. As you would imagine from someone who knew Chuck Berry. And Elvis. And the Beatles. Eric Clapton. And just about evreyone else!
