I half jokingly said on the other thread that the 1,000th Valiant would be a former Luton player. I didn’t expect that it would essentially be a former football player.
1. J. Hughes (1921) 100. H. McCracken (1926) 200. W. Barron (1938) 300. J. Saunders (1963) 400. T. Burman (1976) 500. S. Minto (1988) 600. J. Euell (2001) 700. K. Reid (2010) 800. El-H. Ba (2015) 900. A. Famewo (2020) 1000. D Hylton (2024)
His only contribution of note was smashing the ball into oblivion after the penalty.
But he's a young lad, so give him time. One for the future, to go with our fast front foot attacking football.
He also got booked.
In all honesty I think it is a real shame that a past-sell-by-date lower league player and mate of the manager has gone down in our history with this honour. Could almost get more worked up about it than half and half scarves.

With the possible exceptions of Minto and Euell (not sure about Hughes) the rest have hardly had distinguished Charlton careers.

Forgive either my ignorance or my stupidity here but why is No 1. in 1921 when we were formed in 1905?

Because it all starts from when we were a league club. I know that various people have tried collating lists of Charlton's non-league players, but I'm not sure if the records are there to be confident that everyone is included. I know that my own personal effort fell woefully short. It's very difficult to produce a correctly numbered series, if you can't be certain who may or may not be missing. Hopefully, with the good work that the museum is doing, this will be possible one day. I don't know.

Welcome to Leon McKenzie, the 694th first team player for the club

Congrats to Danny, thanks to Ali and all who have kept the flame burning.
Pleasing that all the hard work here and by @shirty5@Stig and others is being recognised by the club and the Ex Players Association with caps.
On to V2000
For the record, the person who deserves the most credit is the late, great Colin Cameron because it was his work that made the original v list possible.

But it is a number, not an award of merit.
He was just the next guy up.
Of course you're right that it's not an award, but not all numbers are imbued with the same status as others. Numbers ending in zero are generally thought of as more significant than numbers that aren't. That's why we're more likely to have birthday parties for our 30th, 40th, 50th and 60th birthdays, than our 31st, 47th, 52nd or 69th. That's why in cricket batsmen typically get an ovation when they hit a century, but not necessarily when they get 99 or 106. And that's why in recent months there has been a proliferation of posts like this one:
Just 12 players off the big 1000 and six signed already.
Add the three others Jones wants plus some youth players and we could hit 1000 in the early games of the season, maybe in a cup game.
I think Weegie is absolutely right to be disappointed. Of course Jones, wouldn't and shouldn't have given a second's thought to who would be the thousandth player when he made is selection. He's got enough to worry about without throwing stuff into the mix that doesn't affect the game. That doesn't mean that it's not disappointing that it was someone who by dint of their age alone is highly unlikely to ever get hero status. Fingers crossed I'm wrong and he gets a hat trick in the play off final for us, but from what I saw yesterday we're a long way off of that.

Thanks to everyone involved with this list; past and present.
There is irony that the '1000' player is not an CAFC academy lad or a player at their peak but Danny Hilton, the forward coach who only got on at the end as Kanu, Aneke, Ahadme were injured.
35 year old Danny peaked in 2016/17 and 17/18 in League 2 with 21 goals from 39 apps in both seasons.
Why get your knickers in a twist about this? If it was a yoof who came on and never player again then it would also be "shit", right? It's not like we had Zlatan, Messi or Ronaldo on the bench FFS!

Jones wouldn’t want them, they don’t track back or press hard enough.

From what I saw yesterday, everything was going back all the time, especially the ball, we seemed incapable of a forward pass once it reached midfield...
Anyway, it's Chelsea U21s tomorrow night, any likely lads for V1001? Given our injury issues, who's the right back in our U21s, as they're probably the most likely, assuming Nathan Assimwe isn't being recalled, and they've not already played in last years EFL Trophy?
Can't imagine Jones wasn't aware of the milestone, so inexcusable that he picked Hylton in front of a now fit Ahadme (or fitter than Hylton), Dixon or Mbick, and then actually debuted him. Seems he is treating supporters with a lack of respect.

Someone said similar on another thread. The u21s have been playing 3-5-2 and haven’t had a clear first choice RWB. Asiimwe, Fullah (winger/attacking midfielder), Rylah (winger) and Hobden (RB/CB) have all played there (and possibly others).
With that game tonight, an u21 one on Friday and FA Cup it’ll be interesting to see which youngsters play in which match. Presumably Jones will take the FA Cup the most seriously, and the u21s may have a younger team than usual on Friday.
I think people are missing the point here. V1000 making his debut in an actual league game against an actual league team (and one we haven't played since the 80s) rather than against an under-21 side in a cup competition no-one cares about. I'll take that.

I am glad somebody keeps a list for historical record.
It's a list.
