So how do we determine who's the first when there's multiple debutants? Number order, alphabetical order, order in which they step onto the turf when coming out of the tunnel, or order in which they touch the ball in the game?
    Position on team sheet

    Position on team sheet
    Is the correct answer

Keeper first then Squad Numbers if more than on debut in the starting eleven
  • Mannion is 989
    Mitchell 990
    Ahadme 991
    Docherty 992
    Edwards 993
    Berry 994

    Right?
  • My earliest is V245, John Hewie, but he'd been playing a good few years before I saw him play.

    Position on team sheet
If position on team sheet is the way to go, then I then I would suggest having a look through the list as there would be an issue with the numbers allocated for the Bristol Rovers back in August 2017.

Amos, Fosu and Clarke would need amending

There possibly could be more hence why best to take a look

  • So, I'm V0161 😁
  • Absolutely mental that Keith Peacock first played for the Addicks 3 months after I was born!
I first saw him play on the ‘69-‘70 and he’s still atnthe club today!

I have a feeling Gordon Hurst (v219) turned out in a testimonial game. I’m sure someone will know.

Have we confirmed which order we're using yet? If we're going team sheet order it's:

    10/08/2024 v Wigan Athletic (A)
    League 1
    Nathan Jones
    V0992

    Luke BERRY
    10/08/2024 v Wigan Athletic (A)
Substitute for Greg Docherty (90 mins)
    League 1
    Nathan Jones

If we're going keeper then numerical order it's
    V0989

    League 1
    Nathan Jones
    V0990

  • I may be a killjoy, but does it matter which order as long as we have their name and details for future records 🤔
  • edited August 14
Aren't numerical order and team sheet order one and the same? On official team sheets players are listed by squad number and not position are they not?
  • I can't speak for previous seasons, but this season it's been positional, which is why Ahadme is lower down the list on the first one than the second one.
  • I meant what one do we base it on? For instance, last season against Port Vale the official teamsheet was this:

Which is in numerical order, whereas the one posted on social media was this:

Which is positional order. So which one is correct? And does it actually matter?
  • edited August 15
I assume it’s done by teamsheet order for consistency’s sake.

You can’t always find a teamsheet, especially from back in the day, where the players are given positions or even shirt numbers.

So by moving forward with assigning V-numbers in team sheet order, it means the process of numbering stays consistent across the ~120 year history of the football club.

I am not 100% certain about any of the above so some confirmation from the people that know what they’re doing would be helpful. :-)
  • Colin Cameron will be looking down having a laugh at this discussion.

Never had this problem back in 1990 when the 500 came into being.

  • OK, I'm going with

    V989 Will Mannion
    V990 Alex Mitchell
    V991 Greg Docherty
    V992 Josh Edwards
    V993 Gassan Ahadme
    V994 Luke Berry

  • Whoever is granted position number 1,000 on the V-list should be presented (perhaps by @LoOkOuT?) with the Saxman Trophy.  Especially if they disappear without trace soon after taking their place on the list.
  • I know next to nothing about the V numbers but given that Ian Wallis has completed two volumes up to and including the 2023/2024 season of the Valley 1000 surely those numbers are set in stone?
  • I'd expect 1000 to be an academy player off the bench in a BSM Trophy game. Can't see it being a first team signing unless we get an unexpected amount of signings :)
  • V0995
    Matt GODDEN
    17/08/2024 v Leyton Orient (H)
Substitute for Gassan Ahadme (76 mins)
    League 1
    Nathan Jones
  • Chance for a couple more today with Allan Campbell and Dan Potts both named on the bench.
  • edited September 7
    V0996
    Allan CAMPBELL
    07/09/2024 v Rotherham (H)
Substitute for  Luke Berry (59 mins)
    League 1
    Nathan Jones
  • The next four debuts could be crucial. The 1000th could be an u21 off the bench in the pizza cup in the 88th minute who never plays for us again.
  • edited September 7
Think we are looking at 1000 being in the Pizza Paint Motors Cup for sure now.

Potts and maybe Hylton still to debut would take us to 998.

Got to pull up a list of youth players who are yet to make their bow. Maybe if Dixon plays in the U21s comp he’ll be 1000…
