give him his due, he has been performing well of late. although unsure and our second best scorer this innings with 35, although doesnt say much really does it :-(

10 more runs then we hit the heights of 150, although give me that at 40-4 i would of taken it!

Yeah but we were 100-4 at lunch.

Not really into this cricket lark. What I can't understand is allowing all these 'foreginers' to pretend they are 'English'. Sorry if it has been done before but how many South Africans are in the 'England' team this time round?

Trott, KP and Strauss (by birth). Zola Budd was unavailable for selection.

    180 all out
  • And Matt Prior - born in Jo'burg.
  • 180/all out.

    Steyn gets five.

I should have known that as a Sussex member!

South Africa 16-0. Gentle swing apparently but batsmen look comfortable.
  • Rain stops play.....................and hopefully it will continue for 4 more days!!

Or they get about 500 and we are 105 / 9 and it starts hammering down for the remainder of the final day

haha thats weird or a bit spooky, still im happy with 180 after 40-4 and even 140-8 i think!

still would be a huge ask, but good bowling performance then we can get back in this. thats the beauty of it, you never know with england

Terrible batting what the hell was wrong with Trott, he looked very uncomfortable, at least 4 of those wickets were batting errors.... ho hum need 3 days of rain in jo'burg now

Sir Geoffrey said you can't win a game on the first day but you can sure as hell lose it.

Uphill struggle for England now without a lot of weather assistance.
  • It's probably harsh to call Strauss and Prior South Africans, considering they moved here when they were kids (Strauss was only 6) and have effectively been produced by the English system. KP and Trott however I'm a little more uncomfortable with, and some have even been saying we should call up Jaques Rudolph (is he even eligible?) which would be taking the biscuit.

If SA get off to a decent start its as good as game over, we have nowhere near enough runs, but as Geoffrey also says we don't know how bad until both teams have batted.

History indicates this to almost always be a results pitch, so it might turn out to be a low scoring game in general

  • Jacques Rudolf is an interesting one, he has played 35 Tests for SA and is on a long-term Kolpak contract with Yorkshire but wants to settle here and could qualify for England.

Look out for Craig Kieswetter - wicketkeeper batsman and heir to Matt Prior and like Prior, born in Jo'burg.

If Smith goes on to make a considerable score which then cements a victory for Serth Effrica then it will be a total farce....he was OUT OUT OUT!!
What's the point of having referrals if the bloody technology isn't then made available.
Sky commentry team obviously well pizzed off as indeed are all England fans...Fooking fiasco!
  • Just seen replay of Smiths "dismissal":
Could hear the "nick" in Sunny Sydenham !

Rain stopped play. More like a monsoon. The coverage on sky keeps going on the blink, re the monsoon there.

To those who don't know about the Smith decision that should have been out, it has been announced that the 3rd umpire didn't have the sound turned on (WHICH HE SHOULD HAVE) when he was reviewing the decision and the error of missing the clear noise was only realised afterwards. Absolute joke.

The pitch is now one large puddle. Not much grass to be seen on it, and it's still chucking it down.

Don't know much about cricket but to be fair, from what I have seen, England have had more than their share of luck in this series, including by the looks of it now with the rain. Plus of course South Africa have let England borrow a few players :-)
