Cracking choice - that whole Violater album is brilliant though.
Amen - not a weak track on it. One of the top five albums ever released. Enjoy The Silence though is something else - I don;t know what it is about that song but it moves me in ways I've never had with any other song. Just perfect.
I have enough trouble choosing my top ten favourite songs, let along just one. Enjoy the Silence is definitely up there though, and Violator's a dead cert for my top ten albums.
Sorry Adam but when I read that I, and I suspect maybe MOG, Stone Muse and Badger, started singing
You're only 29
Got a lot to learn
But when your mummy dies
She will not return
We like noise, it's our choice
It's what we wanna do
We don't care about long hairs
I don't wear flares
See my face not a trace
No reality
I don't work, I just speed
That's all I need
I'm a lazy sod, I'm lazy sod
I'm a lazy sod, I'm so lazy
I'm a lazy sod, I'm lazy sid
I'm a lazy sod, I'm so lazy
I can't even be bothered
Lazy Lazy
Which is, in case you don't know, "seventeen" by the Sex Pistols.
Of course all the bloody hippies on here were thinking
I learned the truth at seventeen
That love was meant for beauty queens
And high school girls with clear skinned smiles
Who married young and then retired
The valentines I never knew
The Friday night charades of youth
Were spent on one more beautiful
At seventeen I learned the truth
And those of us with ravaged faces
Lacking in the social graces
Desperately remained at home
Inventing lovers on the phone
Who called to say, "come dance with me"
And murmur vague obscenities
It isn't all it seems at seventeen
Which is "At 17" by Janis Ian and a great song too.
never ever fails to cheer me up - reminds me of friends and reminds friends of me.
so much so i used to wake up on a saturday / sunday morning with voicemails of this song played at 3am in a club with friends shouting "this is your song".
At every wedding, club, party i've been to its come on and my friends have all come bounding over to me if i'm having a rest / drink / wee - i.e. not on the dance floor and drag me up. love it. will never tire of it.

You forgot The Regents' Seventeen
Seventeen
And not yet a woman
So-ho clean
Thought that you were never coming
Seventeen
Completely new sensations
Someones dreams
Created your perfection
All the girls
(all the girls just love to hate her)
And all the boys
(all the boys they wanna make her)
They want you
(seventeen)
A permanent reaction
(reaction)
Makes your scene
Now you're caught in her reflection
(reflection, reflection)
Seventeen
She a beautiful mutation
(mutant)
We sow the seeds
(ooh eeooh, ooh eeooh)
Of a future generation
Boys love, future girls
And all the girls
(all the girls just love to hate her)
And all the boys
(all the boys they wanna make her)
Want to take her home with them
Because she's
(seventeen)
She's only seventeen
(seventeen, seventeen)
Could this be love?
Want you seventeen
(love to hate you, want to take you home)
(love to hate you, all the boys, seventeen)
refrain
They dream and all the girls
(all the girls just love to hate her)
And all the boys
(all the boys they wanna make her)
Want to take her home with them
Because she's seventeen
She's only seventeen
She's seventeen
She's only seven
A future girl, she wants a future boy
So if you're
One seven
