Lynn Barber's interview with CE from 3/1/10.

    Not very flattering.
  • How about Chris Morris? That would be different : - )

Chris Morris is brilliant. The Brasseye episode on Paedophillia is still one of the funniest things i have ever seen on TV.
  • Having heard the first offering, Mr Evans is not for me. Wrong voice/style for time of day - "What you got on?" is redolent of more juvenile radio. Music, what there was of it, was adequate (wasn't expecting much!), but too much manic jabbering.
I have just ordered an internet radio, so should have more options soon!

    I'm talking "Nonce Sense"! Fantastic!

Paedophiles will go to any lengths to lure a child....take this gentleman as an example, he has disguised himself as a school. lol
  • [cite]Posted By: Solaraddick[/cite]Has there ever been so much hype (since the launch of Radio 1!) to promote a breakfast show DJ?
I have listened to (and largely enjoyed) Wogan for years. I never have been that keen on Evans, less so having read that his main influence was - Timmy Mallett!!!. Seems like his agent and the BBC are fearful of a large dip in audience figures at 7am tomorrow, judging by the amount of promo Evans is getting.
Shouldn't need it if he's THAT good! :-)

I think you'd made up your mind before it had been aired that it wasn't for you. I quite like Chris Evans and have done since his days at BBC Radio London. I enjoyed the show this morning..
  • [cite]Posted By: Redmidland[/cite]Not sure if this is right or not (memory not what it used to be), but didnt a Charlton supporter win a million quid on TFI a few years back? and was goiong to buy an exec box? This show and dont forget our toothbrush were ground breaking shows IMHO.

Yes he did and yes I believe he did.
  • I am with BDL on Mark Fox, having watched the man at close quarters, I am sure he had the talent, but his demons stopped him from achieving what his talent deserved having said that BDL's Saturday Show was always entertaining although I may be a tad biased on that one.

Chris Evans is a talented broadcaster, I thought him going to drive was a risk, but I feel he really pulled it off, I am sure he will settle into this, but nobody should expect him to achieve the figures Wogan managed, that will be impossible, Wogan was unique, Evans is like Marmite I think.
  • [cite]Posted By: eva4charlton[/cite]The Radio Kent breakfast people are very good. They have a broad mix of articles, local news and sport, obviously traffic and transport news is useful if you're local (and you wouldn't be listening, or able to listen, if you weren't).

John Warnett is a Charlton fan and also commentates on Kent cricket on Radio Kent in the summer.

  • I listen to Kiss in the morning as it livens me up first thing whilst getting ready then its ipod all the way to work then nme from 10-12. I used to love chris evans on glr - hilarious. hate moyles and cox and laverne.
6 music breakfast is good but obviously only available on dab.
  • Suzi - why don't you like the warm, intelligent, amusing Ms Laverne and her good taste in music?
  • Robert Elms from 12 - 3 and than Danny Baker 3 - 5

    Both on BBC London.
  • I thought Evans was great when he started out on GLR and loved his early TV work but he rapidly disappeared up his own backside and I never followed him onto his other shows.

When he got the drivetime shwo I was gutted (still think Jonnie Walker is an excellent DJ) and initalilly I thought Evans was terrible - way over the top and it took me a long while to come around to him again. Having listened to him today I really hope he calms down and drops some of the stupid stuff (what was that mystery guest on???) as I'm really not into shouty DJ's in the morning. If I was I'd be listening to Radio 1.

Evans on the radio, driving to work, in the pitch black...my world was already spinning on it's axis and then Moira Stewart comes on with the news! Flipping eck Tucker...
  • Not sure about Evans ,think it will take time .on the other hand do not Like Moyles
  • Agree the constant hype of Evans across the whole BBC network is OTT. Beeb management must be worried they have made the wrong choice.

Nicky Campbell and Sheila F on Five Live for me.
  • I had a listen to him this morning as I've got a vehicle in which the radio works at the moment. Indifferent really, we gave him about half hour and sort of shrugged. I remember him being on Radio 1 and chuckling away and thinking that Holly Samos was going to be the fittest thing I had ever set eyes on.

And then I saw a picture of her

I too remember that warm feeling about Holly Hotlips, then the deep, deep disappointment when I saw her for the first time!
  • [cite]Posted By: Salad[/cite]Suzi - why don't you like the warm, intelligent, amusing Ms Laverne and her good taste in music?

because she used to take over the airwaves from my brother on XFM for breakfast and apparently was really rude and practically barged him out the chair every morning and barely spoke to him. she also on twitter a few days ago responded to someone saying they didn't know whether to listen to her or my brother by saying my brother was nice but that she would fight him for his ears and said she would kick my brother in the throat! i dare say she was joking but thats a bit psycho - my brother is sleeping with one eye open !! haha.

i'm obviously bias and used to like listening to her in the mornings but i do change my opinion if i hear first hand the the person is a numpty.

Soz if im a bit slow on the uptake but ur brother is a DJ on XFM??
  • Yes he is can't remember first name, surname is Hillcock.
  • You're not wrong. McMoist, in that I've never had much time for Evans' 'hyper' style of broadcasting, though I did hope he would mellow into Radio 2 breakfast mode.
I listened today for about 45 minutes- the 'wrong gong' thing really is peurile radio, and much of the rest of it went past me at pace. Where's the humour in what he does/says- or is this a generation thing that an 'old git' like me doesn't appreciate?

I've done 'breakfast' myself - 6 - 8 am Sunday morning at Kiss100FM on their launch, 1990, and 8 - 10am on Solar, but specialist music stations have more music-based than speech-based needs, so the knack was to 'let the music do the talking'.
I'm off now to do my Tuesday night stint on Solar, with 2 hours of soul oldies!!!
    www.solarradio.com, Sky 0129 :-)
  • Perhaps they should let the music do the talking......
  • Suzi - I hate Laverne, she's a talentless sh*tpot. Like so many people in Radio! ;-)
  • Really can't be doing with Evans's voice, especially as he's always so bloody cheerful! Quite happy to listen to the 'Gold' stations, but there just isn't enough Duane Eddy played!
  • Ah, March, whats the Duane Eddy track Johnnie Walker used to open his show with ?
  • BRING BACK TONY BLACKBURN I TELL YA!
  • [cite]Posted By: Miserableold-ish git[/cite]Ah, March, whats the Duane Eddy track Johnnie Walker used to open his show with ?

    Don't Panic !
Someone just e-mailed me: "Because they're young".
The good ol' GLR days !!
  • [cite]Posted By: Covered End[/cite]Yes he is can't remember first name, surname is Hillcock.

He left xfm late summer and is now on nme radio. Name Jon.
