Guardians: Maybe I'm a prude, but i didn't think it was that suitable for under 10's. Violence and swearing. Thought it fell between 2 audiences - too childish for adults; too violent for kids. My 13 yr old boy liked it, 10 yr old girl didn't. Over 16's: Go see Apes instead.
That's interesting as I love films like these. Yes they fail to test my intellect to it's limits, but that's not what I go to the cinema for.
I do sometimes watch really intellectual dramas and/or documentaries but as a rule the time I spend looking at a moving screen is for relaxation, leisure and the chance to immerse myself 'in a world' that takes my mind off the one I live in.
A Single Shot stars three of my favorite actors. Sam Rockwell , Jason Isaacs and William H Macy , so i'm quite biased towards this film. I found it intriguing , atmospheric and highly watchable but i'm aware the critics were not so generous with their views when it was released last year but i disagree with them. I liked it.
Yeah I turned to my mate at Godzilla and told him how surprisingly boring a giant monster movie could be. The pacing was awful IMO. I don't mind the tease, but it was more than just a slow build up. It got positively boring to watch him swim for a few hours.
Feeling a bit chuffed today, one of my short films just won first prize at a festival in Italy, hopefully it means the day will end well at Pride Park.

Not a latest but watched The Master over the weekend with Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Glued to it for the duration but felt underwhelmed when the credits rolled. Maybe I missed the point or the film was too clever for me but felt the links between the main subject matters was a little bit ambiguous.
Just back from seeing Lucy. Scarlett Johansson may be a pretty convincing argument that there is in fact a God, but she can't save this cluster****. It's shit, end of.
There have been many bad comedy sequels over the years but i'm struggling to think of one as disappointing as inbetweeners movie 2. I think i laughed twice in the entire 90 minutes. This is a bad case of cashing in before the cast reaches middle age. Whoever wrote this deserves to be shot. Utter bilge .
We haven't exactly be starved of stag movies over recent years but this one is different. This does not rely on vulgarity or stereotypical stag jokes but on gentle humour and really good comic acting. Great performances from Andrew Scott and especially from Peter McDonald ( The Machine ). Reminds me a lot of Four Weddings.
Not sure if this anyone has already mentioned this film but I bought and watched 'Wasteland' on iTunes (SD Version was £4.99) last night. Very good and moving entertainment. Boy that was hard work. I don't think i have ever seen a film that has more cynical look on life as Calvary. Beautifully shot and with acting of the highest order , especially from Brendan Gleeson , it is still so dark as to feel almost depressing.

I was hoping Edge of tomorrow was going to have me on the edge of my seat but sadly this film had the opposite affect. This is a bit like a Groundhog Day but not half as clever. Every time Tom Cruise woke up to experience the same day i got a little bit more bored. Watching this felt like playing a crap computer game where every time you got killed you had to start again. Very Disappointing.

Exactly how I felt. I watched it last week and was disappointed too. The last 20 minutes or so was too dark for me to see what was happening. It was an endless loop and didn't have a sort of conclusion. A similar film to Source Code but the latter was much much better in my opinion.
X-Men Days of Future Past was out around the same time here in China and a colleague of mine wanted to see X-Men. I told her at the time that Edge of Tomorrow got better reviews on a few Chinese movie websites. But after watching both films last week, I was glad my colleague didn't listen to my suggestion... 6.5/10
Aaron Swartz was a computer genius and political activist. He was involved with a lot of internet developments including RSS, Reddit and Creative Commons. He was charged with a series of violations of the law for breaking into MIT's system and downloading academic journal articles from a profit-making digital library and faced a possible one million dollar fine and up to 35 years in prison. He killed himself at the age of 26.
This documentary is one of the most thought-provoking films I've ever seen. I was moved to tears a few times and couldn't stop thinking about it afterwards. The tragic story is another perfect example of individuals never win battles against the big government. Highly recommended. 9/10

Charming little film. Likeable (if neurotic) female lead, a little bit twee and Sarah Silvermanesque, but funny and a cracking date film.
