Salutary to note at H/T we ae only three points off 13th place and only six pts ahead of Tranmere in 19th place. By and large , we do not have games in hand on most of those below us, either.
The new manager is still going to have it all to do, that's for sure...

We could sack Peacock!
Seriously, Oggy, all I said was that the new manager is going to have it all to do.
I had lunch yesterday with a fellow KCCC member and close neighbour of mine who is an Arsenal supporter. The first thing he said to me was ''Charlton must be mad to have sacked Parkinson.''
He seemed to think that promotion was pretty much a foregone conclusion for us. I then explained to him both the arithmetic of the table and described the way we have been playing. And he then said :'' Oh I didn't realise that. All I saw was that you were three points off automatic promotion, so I couldn't understand why the had got rid of P.''
The new manger has a huge job on his hands and even if we bring players in this January window, it sure isn't going to be easy.
I agree with you that the table currently is unusually compacted, several clubs have varying games in hand ...... and mathematically, as it stands at the moment, Charlton are just 7 points ahead of the 19th placed club. But even then, that club is 4 points ahead of the relegation pack.
But why look at the extreme worse case scenario?
It's very unlikely to happen. More likely, is that we will remain in contention for promotion, along with several other clubs and a late dark horse.
Sheff Wed are well placed in the play off positions, desperate to win promotion - and a point less than ourselves.
Their recent form over the last half dozen matches is no less consistant than our own.
But I doubt they are quaking in their boots or looking over their shoulders at the relegation pack.
Nor should we.
Our form hasn't been good lately, but there has to be now a change in dynamics.
And why shouldn't it be positive?

I agree with that. It's the reason why Parkinson was sacked and I've been trying to drum up some positivity on here ever since his deaparture was announced.
I'd also commend the words of Steve Brown on the subject:
"I have some sympathy for Phil. But the new owners have put their money where their mouths are and they have the right to make the decisions. They need the supporters' backing if they are to return Charlton to where they were."
