The name Gillingham is taken from the old Romany "gilla ingaham" which literally translated means "the land where dwells the chav". In modern parlence we would say "Chav land".

I stayed in Nazareth. I was working at the Bethlehem music festival, (Bethlehem Pennsylvania USA). A bit of a hole- much like Gillingham probably, and from personal experience the girls are rather 'forward' when you have an English accent. One girl, from Nazareth, received some English as she wouldn't leave me alone due to me sounding like George Michael! I'm sure I don't ( really), and we were later to find out that he wouldn't have looked at her anyway.
"Ermmm. Nope. Sorry - can't think of any. No identity or history I can think of other than a small blob in one of the crappiest parts of London."
Can't think of any history? Any? Really? None what-so-ever? That's unusual for a Gillingham fan. Normally every time Charlton's mentioned you lot start jumping up and down like circus monkeys screaming "YOU TRIED TO STEAL OUR FANS, YOU TRIED TO STEAL OUR FANS!"
Charlton Athletic are very worried about the game on Saturday, under every seat in the covered end there is a combination code cycle chain, so that every Charlton fan can chain themselves up as soon as they take to their seats.
Intelligence reports confirmed that the Pikeys are gonna try and STEAL their fans back.
You have been warned, be vigilant.

Remember they had a hit with love hurts.
Must be cool as not only Joni fans but took their name from The Band track The Weight.
As a relatively new-comer, has there ever been an anorak thread. As in who wears the most? I can anorak with the best of them on football, indian food, films and geography, but I am sure that this would probably only make me non-league amongst lifers. (smiley thing with ironic wink-with undercurrents of kagol based pride)

Nice! Which would explain this..."Gills fans making a noise"
It's in SE7.
Weren't they a Black Country band? Henry would know.
No they were sweaties. And their lead guitarist was called Charlton!
They did a Joni Mitchell cover, so I expect Henry can give you the full low down on the Naz.
Broken Down Angel was one of their hits was it not?
On the Razamanaz album I believe.
Playing in Slomensk tonight. Anyone up for it?

They were managed from an office in Chislehurst High Street.

Miss the point or what
Sense of humour graft required.
But thanks for your contribution.
