  • Ive heard Southgate do a couple of Europa games on Channel 5 and i think he is a very good pundit.
  • Collymore must be the worst phone in ever - he never lets anybody speak , just uses it to continually repeat his views ad naseum - almost a relief when the adverts come on. I quite like Alan green as he at least listens to people's views although i can understand he is not everybodys taste.
  • The trouble with most ex pros as pundits, especially if they are recently retired, is that they will never say anything remotely controversial in case it upsets their old mates in the dressing room. Coupled to the fact that they are mostly inarticulate in the first place, this leads to the most bland, anodine drivel you can imagine. There are some exceptions but these are mostly ex players who have been retired a while and have no axe to grind and who also presumably have a brain in their heads as well!

you were doing so well until you admitted liking Alan Green.
  • [cite]Posted By: RodneyCharltonTrotta[/cite]I see it quite black and white. To me there are two types of football fan.

In one corner the Lawrensons, hansens, motson, Danny Bakers. Unfashionable but love the game and know their stuff.

Then you have the Tim Lovejoys, Kelvin McKenzies,Henry Irvings, Helen Chamberlains, Clive Tyldsleys, Mikas and 99% of Soccer Am guests who may love football now it's fashionable and know all the stats and statisitcs but are ulitmately bandwagon jumping pricks.

Talksport presenters that havent played the game fit comfortably into the latter.

    IMHO of course.

Disagree about Danny Baker he is 100% plastic. You got the rest of the fakes correct though.
  • [cite]Posted By: Tom Hovi[/cite]Can't stand Talksport - tabloid radio at it's very worst.

Agree, its like the aural Sun. Always out to get a reaction, always appealing to a chavvy base level. When it was talk radio it had some merits, now its turd.
  • Possibly Chirpy but at least he set foot in a football stadium before 1990/ 96 when you were practically considered a thug for being into football well before it became dinner party conversation.
  • baker was into man united before millwall, agree with chirpy hes a fake
  • Fair enough chaps pop him in the mckenzie draw then.
  • bit like that Jiggins idiot that basically scans Charlton Life for material for his "football column" in the Snu.

  • was jiggins charlton before?
  • Not as far as I am aware Nolly, I was just adding Jiggins to the plastic Millwall collection with Mr Baker ;o)
  • i heard a rumour thats all, baker was known to wear a man united top when a youngun.
  • Its a most amusing rumour and probably not far from the truth either.
  • heard it from a few millwall in the past,he was never that mad on millwall as pretends.
  • [cite]Posted By: nolly[/cite]is it true they have a jingle thats says for every bill shankly theres a les reed?

    yeah.
the original lyrics were 'for every world beater there's a woman beater'
but for some reason collymore was not happy with that.
  • [cite]Posted By: Len Glover[/cite] There was a Danny Baker from Bermondsey in a Football Monthly of the mid late sixties amongst a photo of a group of boys kicking a ball against a wall. The interviewer asked the boys which team they supported and DB replied Manchester United.

Maybe there were two Danny Bakers of similar age and description in Bermondsey but there again perhaps not.

    Well said Len.
  • that was baker, never was millwall as a kid
  • [cite]Posted By: nolly[/cite]that was baker,never was millwall as a kid

Blimey you lot are harsh. I'm no fan of Baker's in particular but to my knowledge he's been following them for at least the last 30 years. I'd say he's served his time following that lot to lose the 'plastic' label. Crikey, unless he started following them in the womb some of you aren't counting him in as a 'proper' fan eh?

Fortunately, I've been an Addick since I was a glint in the old mans eye...
  • same here bournemouth,i refuse to believe you can change teams

  • Sorry that I am a plastic and supported Man Utd because my Dad did, until i was 12 or so and old enough to be able to go to see my local team on my own or with mates.
I really felt plastic when I was selling Charlton scratchcards door to door around dartford on cold winters evenings when i was 16/17 back in 86-88 trying to get money for a club with no home.

but no one would have known that? or have you mentioned that previously.

you sound a bit touchy about the subject mind.
  • That was my first posting on the thread. Was just generalising.
Just dont think you can call someone a plastic because as a kid he supported a different team like Danny Baker did (and myself). Can slightly understand if you went from Charlton on to Man Utd etc but surely not the other way?
  • some light hearted comments about frigging danny baker, deary me
  • danny baker used to do a 6 0 clock show when i was younger, he used to live near creek road deptford by the park, and he was def Millwall then and that must be atleast 25 years ago,

for all his thoughts i really enjoy his shows and his point of view

for a millsmall fan i think he is ok
  • I used to like his 606 show when it was about random football related stuff, instead of the usual phone-ins where fans ring up and moan about the manager / tactics etc.
  • Talkprem - Terrible station, except H+J.

I had to lough earlier in the season, when Collymore was presenting, was driving home from the Valley when it was an International break, no callers whatsoever, Collymore was saying that we wanted to hear from all levels of supporters not just Premiership. Er..no you don't!! Glory boys radio.
Also when we got relegated to League 1 Adrian Durham (who is a redhead) took a call from a Charlton fan, Durham (trying to take the piss) said 'whats it like being a Charlton fan mate?' to which our fellow addick said, 'its better than being ginger mate'!

I hate Durham he is a tool.

the ginger one annoys me but he stood up for us when pardont fleeced us for our money, when he said for legal reasons he wouldnt name the manager, but then went on to say a former prem team staring relegation to the 3rd division in its face stood to make a pretty penny for failure and that he thought it was imorale, he also said at the start of last season that because of our manager he thought we were certs to go down,

Edited for slanderous copmments my appologises
  • I just hate Danny Baker.
