Ledge - totally agree about Barry. He looked knackered before half time. His time as an international footballer for me was up when Ozil made him look like a Sunday league plodder in the world cup. Having said that, only Capello knows why he kept him on, we're chasing a goal and you've got him and Gerrard hugging the half way line. Time to blood Jack Rodwell i think. What gets me is we're supposed to be building for the future and we're chasing a game and Capello brings on SWP and Kevin f*cking Davies. Where was Wilshere? Why was Andy Carroll not in the squad?
Not sure about right back. Only Micah Richards can really challenge him at the moment. Ryan Bertrand is the under 21 right back and i don't think he's good enough yet (and he might never be).
Capello is obviously a superb manager but i do question his decisions sometimes. Crouch was giving away free kicks for the smallest things, the ref was fussy....so what does capello do...brings on a player that has the highest number of conceded fouls in english football. good thinking batman. Stick rooney as far forward as he can go and get Gerrard playing off him. should stop both players playing deeper than lescott!!!!!!...if you have your two wingers playing as far forward as possible, your almost playing 4 up front.
[cite]Posted By: Ledge[/cite]Chris - rodwell great shout forgot about him - he's injured at mo tho isn't.
Yeah i think he's out until Xmas. But don't worry, Lampard will probably be back fit for the next qualifier in March, so we can look forward to him in the middle with Gerrard shunted out wide!
I would much rather see Mikel Arteta in the team than Gareth Barry if we're going to play that central midfielder further forward than Gerrard. Not sure if I want to open that can of worms though...
Why do we play 4-4-2 but ask our wingers to play like inside forwards, who keep cutting inside loads and therefore never crossing the ball. It makes having 2 players in the box completely pointless. We could've replaced one of Rooney/Crouch in the starting lineup with another central midfielder to allow Gerrard to do what he does best - get forward.

Good question. I'd have thought Capello would've realised after the WC that this formation is outdated at International level (and even now at top club level). But still we stick with it, even though hardly any of our players play that formation for their clubs. Man Utd, Chelsea and Man City don't play that way and even Redknapp who nearly always played 442 has realised the need to change at the top level and plays a different formation now they have Van der vaart.

Hasn't it now been decided that Arteta is not eligible for England?
Barry looks like he is running through treacle. Ashley Young, dead ball in a good position, balloons it into the crowd - pitiful.

its quite clear that its nothing to do with the managers, its the players.. they are rubbish...
Spot on.
so its spot on that they are 'rubbish'?....blame can certainly be placed on the players performances but tactics clearly plays a huge part. we are playing an outdated style of football. Change it and we should see how these 'rubbish' players play weekly for their clubs.

Agree with ValleyGary. To say that tactics and strategy aren't important means we might as well do away with managers all together.
I'm not saying Capello is blameless and 'rubbish' may be over the top, but the number of times you see our players fail to control the ball or misplace passes is ridiculous.

it was very poor last night. we started okay, moving the ball quickly and to feet. but as the game went on you could see the frustration getting to the players, the team loses its shape, passes are forced, go astray and concentration is lossed. We have the players, we just really dont know how to use them.

I do agree that the performance of some of these players at times is inexplicable. I like to think picking a system that is more similar to ones used at club level would help (I'm not trying to claim it would eradicate all mistakes however).
I'm not picking on Adam Johnson here, but playing on the right of a 4-4-2 is not the same as playing on the right of a 4-3-3/4-5-1. Similarly, we finally start using Ashley Young on the left, and this season he's no longer playing there for Villa. Gerrard works best in a 3 man central midfield team, as does Lampard. I'm no expert on tactics, but none of this can help. And if the players can't play well in a 4-4-2, why do we keep bloody picking them?!
So in summary it's a combination of wrong personnel and bad tactics. Good job, Fabio.
England needed a goal. Looked more like getting it when Davies came on - Penalty was about as clear as they come - Capello should have taken G Johnson off and replaced with Davies though. Did we need 4 defenders in that game? That's what puzzles me about so many managers - they don't seem to know how to play against teams that are intent at defending and are decent at doing it.
[cite]Posted By: Telnotinoz[/cite]Given up watching England, same old shite.....nothing new or inventive and overpaid, overrated primma donnas who do anything but make me feel proud.
Seconded. Didn't bother with it at all. Took the Mrs out for a meal and earned loads of browny points. Double bonus!!! :-P

biggest understatement of the year he was awful - for both teams
