3 day eventing is more popular than American Football in the UK.

    JAT.

Typical BBC dumbing down. Not a big fan of American rugbyball myself, but if you cannot treat a visiting sportsman with aome respect then you should not be on tv. The questions would have been more akin to a CBeebies interview maybe on Something Special, with Justin asking the questions.

    "You sign Wide Receiver"

I once watched a game of American Football with Martin O'Neil. He's totally obssessed with it, although he had to keep going off because they were trying to sign Ashley Young (i think).

I remember sitting there thinking this is so cool watching this with Martin O'Neil, but i wish it was any other sport because this is boring the living sh*t out of me.

Moral of the story; if you want the game to catch on here, make sure anyone having to watch a game gets to do so with an (ex) premiership manager or equivelent

Leroy, Gary Anderson still gives me nightmares, although they are being increasing taken over by Farves antics recently!!

Why do people insist on twisting stuff to back up their argument? Leroy - they didn't say "American football that's with a rugby ball and motorcycle helmets, innit" - they asked him about his position - the same as they might ask Ben Ainslie what's the difference between a laser and a yngling.

Pilchard - I very much doubt the BBC went on bended knee to talk to the guy - more like the other way around (not personally, but via the NFL press office). They have tried to publicise a minority sport and get shot down in flames for it.

Nonsense. Did you see the whole interview? I did - it was cringweworthy in the extreme. To use your analogy properly, asking Ainslie the difference between two classes of yacht is the equivalent of asking Jerry Rice whether he thinks a curl or an out route is best against a soft-cover defense in a short-yardage situation. Asking him whether he's 'the bloke that runs downfield really fast and catches the ball' is more analogous to asking Joe Hart whether he's allowed to pick the ball up with his hands.

Was he interviewed on a specialist NFL show on the BBC or one of the primetime news shows?

To be honest if it was the latter, I would have less trouble identifying his role in the game from the clips I have seen with the "are you the man who runs down the pitch like a bullet and catches it over your shoulder?" comment than saying he is a wide receiver or quarterback or whatever.

If it was the former - then it is inexcusable.

I'm not to bothered who asked who regarding the interview tbh AA -but I feel it's not to much to ask for Auntie -having had the opportunity however it came about- to have asked questions with a bit more meat on them, maybe not hardcore NFL questions that would mean little to the average person but something that would give the average Uk viewer a little more insight and understanding of this particular sport- and something that would also have had some value to NFL fans over here. Something that the Beeb is more than capable of doing.

I have never seen American Football, other than bits and pieces on TV shows and the like. Now that I know this stranger I've never heard of is the man who runs really fast and catches the ball behind his shoulder, I feel my knowledge of American Football has increased. Congratulations to the BBC. Public service broadcasting at its finest.

No it's not leroy, sorry mate. If everyone in American football except one person was a wide reciever then what you say would be true, as you know it isn't. He could be the bloke who throws the ball between his legs to the bloke who throws the ball to the bloke running downfield really fast. He could be the bloke who tries to stop the bloke throwing the ball to the bloke who really runs fast, he could be the bloke who tries to stop the bloke who tries to stop the bloke who tries to stop the bloke throwing the ball down the field to the bloke who runs really fast. He could be the bloke who kicks the ball after a touchdown...

I used Ben ainsley because you did, for all I know the difference between a laser and yngling might me simple - one has two masts the other one three masts or something. If they asked Ben about the difference between a splodge ratchet spinneker and a bodge rachet spinneker ( I made that up ) and he went into a detailed explanation, 95% of viewers would be turning over to watch Adrian and Christine, as they would if they had asked Jerry Rice the question you use as an example. As a man who prefers baseball to American football I would be delighted to see them interview Barry Bonds in whatever way they choose, calling it rounders with a big bat or whatever.

I didn't see the interview by the way, and to a purist it might have been cringeworthy, but that it publicised the game in the UK on a popular national TV show should be applauded, not condemned. Did any commercial station do the same and have a detailed discussion about the intricacies of the game?

There are people who do all these jobs in American football?? Wow, it's complicated. And I thought it was just an excuse for some ads on national TV.

Thierry Henry interview is quality. Especially the repeated clip of the goal against Ireland.

love how they use that as the clip displaying his 'class'. More like the cheapest clip they could find! Not exactly a clip to show his ability to the American audience is it?
