Reid may have lost his place.

Now to begin with, I must say that Reid has been our most cinsistent player so far this season and always seems to carry a threat. When he got injured in the Brighton match it was another kick in the teeth on a bad day. However, I think the 2 big things this side has been missing (and I have been saying it repeatedly on here) is pace and power up front (step up Joe) and that the midfield needs a bit of help to free up Racon. Jackson doesn't threaten like Reid but he provides that extra midfield stability that brings out the best in Semedo and Racon. So for me, and it is harsh, but we need to stick with this as our plan A when Reid is fit. The great thing is that we will have real game changing options on the bench.

    I have to agree here Muttley, some have expressed a bit of disdain toward Jackson, but i think in that position it completely compliments the centre mid boys, he gives as you say that stability that gives racon and semedo the edge that they need to dominate. Like Fry as well and is more than capable at LB. As much as i think Reid is quality i agree with your points here.

    Yep I think Parky has stumbled upon the correct blend. Playing with one out and out winger worked well for Curbs. Having Reid or Martin to come on and change things when required is a great option to have.

    Can see your point but tbh Jackson has been a real disappointment for me so far this season. Has bags of experience and pedigree yet IMHO was a liability at left back and two half decent games at left midfield has not yet convinced me. It seems to me that he falls between two stalls and offers not enough in either defence or attack. Perhaps I am being harsh but he was one of the signings that I really thought would shine bright in this pony division.

    my point is to judge the success of Jackson playing further forward - you might not need to just look at his performance but of Racon's and Semedo's. He is a midfielder who can play left back -not the other way round remember.

    We just had better balance yesterday, which Jackson is a huge part of, I like Reidy, but fans wil always like a tricky player to someone who just does the job. In addition, Reid's best performances for me come when he's an impact player attacking tiring players

    The team looks more balanced. Playing with 2 outright wingers has often meant the midfield was over run. Jackson playing not so wide seems to have adressed that problem

    Good point but also worth noting that playing with two out and out wingers is quite rare these days. Probably due to oppo teams lining up with formations that can expose you if you don't have a large share of possession. It's healthy competition. Puts us in a happy position. Racon needs to continue to perform like today to keep his place I would say. Jackson could move into the middle with reid out wide.

    I think Jackson does offer abit of stability but I think he lacks the engine to go the whole 90 mins which is why I wouldn't play him in the Center and a 60th or 70th min sub for Reid or Martin could be good

    Muttley - I agree & have been saying it for ages. I even told Parky face to face at Bromley, that you won't get any success playing with 2 wingers & leaving only Racon & Semedo being overrun in the middle.

    TBF he could have started with Waggy & Martin, so it was his choice to only play 1 winger.

    I agree that although Reid is our "best" player, I would not rush him back to have 2 wingers again.

    In any case, with suspensions and injuries I don't see it as too much of a problem.

    Jacko obviously doesn't have the raw power and pace of Reid so will never look as spectacular as Reidy in full flow.

    He is a highly intelligent (in the footballing sense) player though and makes himself available in good positions as well as helping out the full back. Yesterday he was well placed and unmarked on the far post on a few occasions although the ball never got to him.

    If he carries on in the same fashion the ball will get to him and he will score so another attacking option.

    Very underrated player our Jacko in my view.

    Serious concerns over his fitness though. Blowing out of his arse after 60mins yesterday. Thought he was going to get subbed.

    Well, let's say I made a number of points & he never really commented/committed himself. He tended to say, yes I've thought about it, but never really expanded upon it.

    As it sounded to me, like I was telling him his job, there's only so far you can push it.

    To be fair he's not a natural defender but does a job there and looks more comfortable in midfield. On the one match I've seen (yesterday) he acquitted himself well in that position and didn't let himself or the team down. I can see why he was signed - in one player you have both LB and LM cover and they are tricky positions to find decent players for - to have someone who is adept (though not brilliant) in either position is a positive.

    To be fair he has played left back most of the season and a midfielder, if he does the job properly as Jackson did, covers far more ground than a full back. He probably needs a few games to readjust to playing in midfield.

    Perhaps playing Jackson wide left brings out the best in Racon,as mentioned elsewhere,although I'm not sure how that works,as I don't recall him having to cover the middle of the park when Racon has been caught too far forward.But on the basis of Carlisle and yesterday I don't think that Jackson and Fry are the best left sided combo. Fry plays too far inside, he's more of a centre half, and lets his winger have unchallenged crosses, which nearly cost us in both games just mentioned, Jackson didn't really back him up either, possibly due to being tired, allowing the fullback to double up down our left.I'd play Reid, his dangerous, and what we have to exploit is that opposition will double/triple mark him (like Sam last season), so we need to find the space those defenders have left elsewhere. Jackson does have two goals this season however, but Reid will create and score more in the long term. What we really need is a specialist left back.

    Echoing previous comments - his playing LM gave Racon and Semedo more support in the midfield.

    JJ isn't a left back but is decent cover there - his footballing brain is top notch though and hopefully we'll see that in the coming games

    It's about numbers in a general zone - if you are outnumbered you might often have to have 2 players around you depending how your opponents set up - put another player in that zone whether they are middle or left and they can give you more space - in fact you don't want them occuping the same space. It's about a player that keeps pushing forward or is a little more withdrawn rtaher than covering a specific area.

    So a few weeks ago Reid was our only outlet, the only one who could turn a game on it's head and the only one able to set up goals.

    He won't get back in the team in my opinion now until form changes. Think the players realise some of them are good enough themselves and don't need to rely on the trickery of Kyel.

    Nice problem for Parky.

    Think he will be a useful sub and he is vying for Waggy's place - Waggy is holding on to it tightly but injuries and what have you can change things- a great problem for us to have. Hopefully playing 2 wingers is consigned to the bin.

    At the moment we seem more balanced with Jackson LM and also less predictable without Reid, who until recently we ALL thought could not do without!

    Also, will Jackson, on current performances, score more goals (and maybe get more assists) than Reid?

    Seems as though Reids injury has shown us other, maybe better, options?

    Reid is class though so, as said above, nice problem for PP.
