    Jenkinson 7 - promising performance
Doherty 2 - mare of a 2nd half at fault for 2nd goal and exposed Elliott for penalty
    Dailly 6 - did ok
Fry 5 - move him CB he was MOM in the game versus Notts Cty when he played there. would add more pace in the middle of defence
McCormack 3 - below average and too simlar to Semedo
Semedo 6 - did what semedo does, needs a playmaker along side him..totally committed
Jackson 5 - didnt look comfortable all day

Elliott- 4 crap, at fault for the first, lack of communication for the second/third and one of his worst games for us.
Jenkinson- 7 MOM, recovered from shaky start. positive performance.
Doherty- 3 schoolboy errors, old, slow and this type of performance has been coming for a while, see why Norwich got rid. good first half undone. Their second was embarrasing.
    Dailly- 6 not his fault.
Fry- 4 poor again, couldn't pass water. Poor for their first but was exposed.
McCormack- 4 useless. bottles challenges, offers nothing going forward and spends to much time moaning at the ref. I know he seems to be this months scapegoat but he is not good enough for us.
    Semedo- 6 below par.
Jackson- 5 struggled, unlucky not to score aswell.
Ecclestone- 7 bright and lively but should have scored.
Bradley Wright Philips- 6 quiet but scored. too little too late.
Abbott- 7 did well imho, unlucky not to score. Joint MOM.

    Racon- 7 has to start
    Reid- 6
    Wagstaff N/A (edited)

  • Elliott 4 at fault for all 3 goals. Too slow with footwork. Kicking poor again
Jenkinson 7.5 no fault for goals. Elegant player. Needs to work on crossing.
Doherty 5 fine up until 2nd goal. Shocking thereafter
Dailly 6 needs a youngster next to him to mentor
Fry 6.5 time to put him in the middle
McCormack 4 bottles tackles. Shocking passing. No awareness. Hides from the ball. Not good enough I'm afraid
Semedo 6.5 not his best but not his worst. Outnumbered
Jackson 6 always looks knackered to me. His touch and vision might be better suited to playing behind strikers
Ecclestone 5.5 didn't track back for 1st goal (had two chances to do it) missed a lot of chances
Bradley Wright Philips 5.5 didn't look interested until up front. Dont blame him, he's a striker
Abbott 6.5 meh. Won some headers but control was shocking at times when we needed someone to hold it up. Offers less than Anyinsah and is much slower.

Racon 7 looked tidy when on. If he's fit he should now start. I'm wondering if there is something off the park that stops him from starting (contract related maybe)
Reid 6.5 looked positive and should have had more time
    Wagstaff N/A (edited)

SCP 5- wrong formation from the start and took too long to realise. Time to go back to 442 as the players know this. Formation was very odd and people didn't know what they were meant to be doing
  • Elliott - 4 Floppy handed for the first goal and made a mess of the pen (then failed to move for it). His worst game so far goals
Jenkinson - 7 I'd like to see him in a 4 4 2 with someone in front of him. More defensively solid than Francis and distributed the ball well, but didn't have those killer crosses. Good in the air too and has played centre back for the reserves/youth so I'd expect to see him there.
Doherty - 5 Solid game, until he made that awful unforced error for the second goal.
Dailly - 4 Probably his worst game since Milwall. He too managed to deliver a short backpass, but wasn't punished. Also went in two footed on halfway and could have seen red if he'd connected.
Fry - 4 Some good crossing, but was out of shape for the first goal - didn't know whether to close the ball down or stay with the striker. Did neither - may be a victim of a messy zonal system.
McCormack - 4 Tried watching him for a while - he's committed, he runs, but his passing is poor and he has a knack for being just off the play. A poor man's Matt Holland.
Semedo - 6.5 Not his best day, but screened the bunglers behind him well and was always available for the ball.
Jackson - 6 Pushed forward well, and did OK when switched to full back.
Eccleston - 6 Missed a good chance, but also created a bit, was tracking back well too. Before he was going off he looked very like a little boy in a huff and failed to get up the pitch when we broke away. Needs to pull his socks up. KMT
Bradley Wright Philips - 6 Set up two good chances in the first half and took his chance well, but struggled out wide.
Abbott - 6 Not a lot stuck to him but worked hard and suffered from being separated from the other forwards.

Racon - 6.5 Made a difference when he came on.
Reid - 6 Whipped a couple of crosses in
Wagstaff - Not on long enough to score, but didn't get many touches

Ref 7 A bit fussy, but hard to grumble at much.
SCP 4 Individual defensive errors and fluffed chances cost us, but being a man down in midfield and a messy zonal system made it all possible. Confident that it will get sorted but yesterday was one of those mistakes that you need to learn from.
  • [cite]Posted By: redman[/cite]most of these marks above are ridiculous and out of total frustration. We were the better side for most of the game, had numerous corners, had the better of possession and anyone who marked lowe than wallsall or swindon really has lost it. Luckily SCP comments are more balanced
With regard to Dailly, Doc, Fry and Robbie, I'd defend the marking because their games were strewn with individual errors that lead to goals. Walsall we didn't get out of first gear. Swindon was a tactical mess with a lot of below par performances, but from a purely defensive angle I think today was worse. I think most people have reflected that the midfield and forward line weren't marked particularly badly.

Elliott - 5 (He was exposed by the defence for the first goal but should have done better, doherty's mistake for the second and he has to hold his hand up for third but Doherty's lack of pace does not help)
Jenkinson - 6.5 (Good individual display, Probably not a day to play a system without effective wingers, on the lad's home debut).
Doherty - 4.5 (Lack of pace and leadership in the defence does not help him - his mistake for the second goal killed the game)
Dailly - 6 (Fairly dependable, but he can't play for ever)
Fry - 4.5 - (He is a CB not a LB. He is exposed as a left back, the system CP played didn't help him)
McCormack - 4 (Totally overrun and lacking in quality, he is not the answer in midfield, particularly in a 433 formation)
Semedo - 6.5 (steady enough, but needs the right midfield partner)
Jackson - 4.5 (poor again today, I think he seems unsure of what he should be doing)
Ecclestone 6.5 (looked very lively, but needs to take chances and not try to do everything on his own)
Bradley Wright Philips 6 (He scored but what is he doing on the wing ? )
Abbott 6 - (Getting unfairly slated, when the midfield battle is lost, full backs resort to lumping the ball forward at pace, which is difficult to control, with a defender at your back. Should have dropped back in to midfield to provide a better link roll)

Ref - 5, Did nothing about the defender holding Abbot the whole game and that was never a penalty for the third'

Chris Powell - 4 - Got the formation wrong today for the players on the pitch. It should have been changed half time, as the midfield was over run yet again. Abbott should have played deeper in midfield which may have helped the over run midfield. Chris Powell expected far too much off his full backs. Jenkinson on his home debut and Matt Fry, who is not a charge up the left back, being a centre back. He brought Racon on too late. With the £5 promotion and 24,500 fans a more steady formation was called for.

The owners also need to support CP with funds to improve the quality / product on the pitch. The promotion itself was well put together. The owners need to remember that they have to invest in the team or else all that good marketing is built on sand and fresh air. In the end, there is no substitute for quality. That quality needs to be permanent and not just loans. (Though it looks like we will have to deal with that in the short term until the summer).

Racon -6.5 Made a difference when he came on, if he can remain fired up and play with intensity and passion, then maybe he has a place in the team. Miles better than McCormack.
Reid 6 - some nice runs when he came on.
Wagstaff 6 - looked energetic (edited)

No man of the match from me, probably Jenkinson or Ecclestone but not quite.
    ---------------------------------------------------

After watching the 'highlights' on BBC, I am going to knock a 0.5 off for Fry - 4.5, as there was a gaping hole where the left back space should be for the first goal. I am also going to knock off 0.5 for Jackson to 4.5 as where was he exactly for the first goal? If has a young CB, at LB then he should be making more effort to cover him and look out for him.

We need a specialised left back now. We can't wait for Bessone, who is unfit and positionally challenged to get it together.

Fry should be cover for the centre back position as Dailey as good as he is, will need to be rested at some point.

Doherty to be dropped a full mark to 4.5 for that useless headback.
Elliot should have down better for the first goal, and the third goal was never a penalty as the challenge was outside the box. The ref loses a full mark for the penalty decision.
  • redman how can you accuse people of marking ridiculously when so far you are the only person on CL to mark Ecccleston as being our worst player? Do you think you are the only one that has it right?

Disappointing performance in front of such a large crowd . SCP needs to bring in fresh blood this week .IMO a left back to replace Bessone ( so Fry can go cb ) or a cb or even both . A young midfielder and maybe an alternative Keeper.

    Elliott 5 Looked dodgy
Jenkinson 7 Pick of the backline extra point for making his debut well
Doherty 5 Two goals down to him . Dailly and Doc are being found out as a partnership . I'm sure either paired with Fry would be ok . Still aerally dominant.
    Dailly 6 Average
    Fry 5 Looks exposed
McCormack 5 Hope he is replaced next game going off the boil again
Semedo 6 Not his best game
Jackson 6 Average , seems to be the whipping boy for some
Ecclestone 6 shows promise at times
Bradley Wright Philips 6 Well taken goal
    Abbott 6 Had his moments
Racon Looked better in the middle when he came on
    Reid

  • The comments and marks made regarding Elliott's performance vary between 1 ("crap") to 6.5 ("average"), so even taking into account 'opinions', I do wonder how many people who make these comments were actually at the game. Surely opinions made by 'fans' cannot be that far apart?

  • Purposely done this without reading other scores first

Elliott - 5 First and third goals down to his errors
Jenkinson - 6 Was solid but we missed the attackin width Francis gives us
    Doherty - 4 Oh dear
    Dailly - 6 Solid enough
Fry - 4 - Starting to be exposed
McCormack - 4 Apart from aimlessly running around a lot, what does he give us over Racon?
Semedo - 7 Steady, winning tackles, good quick passing - does what it says on the tin every week
Jackson - 5 Needs to be more involved - a decent shot
Ecclestone 6 Looked like he could break lose but didn't - needed better support and service
Bradley Wright Philips 5 A bit quiet
Abbott 6 - Did the job he was asked to do but let down by his team mates- thought the attack could have been pretty effective but needed attacking width badly.

Racon 7 Provided something we were missing from midfield when he came on
Reid 7 Should have been on sooner
Waggy 5 not enough time to impress -

Powell needs to sort his tactics out - teams will set up well, work hard and be disciplined against us - we need to be able to counter that. A couple of loans look crucial for us to push on. Should have introduced the 3 subs after the first goal but ANyinsah instead of Waggy
  • Elliott 5
    Jenkinson 6
    Doherty 4
    Dailly 5
    Fry 4
    McCormack 3
    Semedo 6

    Abbott 4

    Racon 6
    Reid 5
    Wagstaff N/Al
  • Elliott 5 - Cold have done better with 1st goal
Jenkinson 6.5 - first ten minutes looked nervous but did well after that, couple of decent shots.
Doherty 5 - up to the backpass thought he did ok
Dailly 6 - mark says it all
Fry 6 - needs to sort his distribution to the front men out
McCormack 5 - works hard but "headless" & "chicken" come to mind but didn't deserve the "cheers" when subbed
Semedo 6 - very crab like! but competed
Jackson 5 - tucked inside too much needs to get chalk on his boots!
Ecclestone 7 - MOM but needs to play on right side
Bradley Wright Philips 6 - Quiet but same old story for the forwards if you don't get decent service they can't score goals
Abbott 6.5 - Unlucky at moment but still play Benson and Anyinsah in front of him

Racon 6 - Needs to start now our only creative midfielder
Reid 5 - Get rid of the yellow boots!! Rightly IMO a sub at best as when he starts games not the same player
