Well, after 3 days Magnus has fitted in really well. He is getting used to his new name, will sit and sometimes lay down when told. However he's a different dog on a lead, pulling, won't sit and barks at everything. So will be needing @T_C_E expertise to cure this, I think.0

He's testing you out, to see if you are going to boss him or he going to take charge. He's telling all the dogs and anyone else that will listen, this my new dad, stay away. Easy to stop, but bloody long winded to type all out. I've got an space on Monday (chargeable at my field) or Tuesday (free) out in the street. Either way your welcome.guinnessaddick said:Well, after 3 days Magnus has fitted in really well. He is getting used to his new name, will sit and sometimes lay down when told. @guinnessaddick Our the 8 year old Granddaughter walking two dogs. To small to walk alongside them she has walk between them. Notice she is correcting the dogs when they walk ahead or start to wander, sometimes she is a little too stern with them but they have to be corrected or they will take the piss.

If you are using a one handed lead you will struggle, imo dogs should walk alongside you, not in front. The loop of the lead in the hand furthest from the the dog, the hand nearest the dog taking up any slack. Any movement by the dog (lunging etc) should corrected across the body by the hand furthest from the dog in a checking motion, not hard to hurt the dog but firm enough to register. Also people make this situation worse by giving the dog eye contact which excites an already excitable dog and makes jump for attention. Once again it's difficult to explain in typed form, easier to show.Showmetheway2gohome said:Our Ned Hungarian visla loverly dog can’t stop him jumping up at people any suggestions cheers.

Best way to describe him at the moment, Charlton off the lead, spanner on it.1 - Sponsored links:

Excellent, Ray. If only all dogs owners would go through this, along with recall, sit and quiet.T_C_E said:@guinnessaddick Our the 8 year old Granddaughter walking two dogs. OK, she's getting there but not very much contact with dogs. Got over the initial fears, and now has a younger sister who is a bit more gung ho, so she's leading and Mia follows.T_C_E said:

We also inherited a feisty, aged cat, and we've got them used to stroking her now. So, all is looking good.

Now 4 years into JJ's rehabilitation to get over his fear of small dogs, he will now walk past them on the same side of the road without reaction. However if the lunge or bark at him he's coming back with both barrels, no lunging but he will bark. So we are making progress and won't give up with him.1

Our boy has gone through the wars lately. Had his nuts off then had to have surgery for bladder stones. Turned out they had missed one that had got stuck at the end of his nob. So had to flush it back and he now has a hole at the base of his nob which he pees out of0

Scooby will 15 in June - his back legs are really weak now and most he can do is the end of our street and back for a walk - I used to take him Cliffe Marshes for 5 hour walks 😢 he still looks good though for his age - had his hair cut this week and very proud of it he is (my daughter put the heart on the picture, not me !!)8 - Sponsored links:

Spent an hour with @T_C_E yesterday with Magnus.
It was a great benefit to me and my family, along with Magnus. Problems we had were pulling on lead and recall New lead and collar ordered, being a rescue dog, I’ve been worried about letting him off the lead when in the woods. We’ve only had him since NYD, it’s going to take a time.
Anyway, thanks again to @T_C_E0 -

We've got a very boisterous and strong 18 month GSD. Socialised and generally ok with other dogs but goes absolutely nuts if he sees foxes or cats when out. Wife has been pulled over twice by his efforts to get after the fox. I struggle to hold him as well. Any ideas or tips to cure this type of behaviour?0

unfortunately for ourselves our dog will often spot their target before we do and while we have let our mind wander onto something other than what we are doing or we are busy chatting to our walking partner/s. Spotting offending cats/dogs/bikes/joggers before our dogs do is the solution, we distract our dogs from cat/fox from it before it sees it rather than react to after it has seen it.
More difficult to explain than demonstrate, if your local I'll willing help you and your wife.

Bailey (cats) JJ (dogs or sudden movement towards him) Valli loves everyone. 😉
