  • Thanks @bazjonster for your kind words. Yes she was a stunning example of the breed and had the best temperament you could wish for. A month on since we lost her but the hole is still as big as ever, and although we have the rest of the pack - Uma, Zeek, 'B' and Jaxx - (All GSD's) we miss her terribly. We have a new pup that we bred joining the pack now - little 'Kizzie' who will be trained to work like Police Dogs are along with the aforementioned crew who are also trained that way. I'll post pictures of her in the next few days.

JJ AND TOFFEE REAL MENS DOGS!
  • DUNCANS A BIG BOY NOW(was meant to be a small beagle)
  • Cant believe bowyer let someone get the better of him

What can I do with Magnus, every now & again, a dog(s) will spook him and he's off. The dog(s) may be fifty yards away from Magnus and he just turns and heads off, he won't recall, however he will stop in tracks when I call him. If I walk off in another direction away from the dog(s), he will come. He has met some of these dogs when he was on a lead and everything was fine.

I’d be looking at socialising him off lead with other dogs, somewhere secure where they can run and play together. Maybe a small paddock you can hire and invite his pals around for some play or join a training class purely so he’s around other dogs, it’s difficult living in town but that’s what I’d be looking at doing. I start puppy classes with Bowyer next week and it’s purely for the socialisation for him and his interactions with other dogs, if the class don’t allow it then I’ll find another one.

I do let him off the lead in both the woods and the fields, he's fine meeting other dogs, just every now and again, he gets a dislike for a dog about fifty yards away from him and he doesn't want to know. He's never had a go at another dog, a few have had a go at him, nothing really and he's fine. Yesterday he took a dislike to a dog, I've never seen before, so it's first time in seeing it and like I said it was about fifty yards, I walked around the other way to get passed this dog, he was fine once he knew he wasn't meeting it. On the second lap, he was very hesitant in case he met again.
  • I see, I think it’s a common misconception that all dogs like all other dogs and they are certainly better judges of character than we are. I’d rather have a dog that walked away from a situation than one like my JJ who will confront it and start shouting, if it’s a dog you’ve never seen before the chances are you may never meet it again so put it down to one of those things. Trying to get a recall if the dogs worried or even frightened won’t happen and walking away from your dog and away from what is concerning him would be your best move and he’ll rejoin you when his fear has passed and the dog has gone.

  • Don’t know if others are aware - bad stomach bug is going around Kent which affects dogs quite badly - our two pups Buster and Bodie had to go to vet today as we have had 24 hours of very runny shits anywhere and everywhere, throwing up, not eating, not drinking and very lethargic (which for Springer Spaniel pups is unheard of)

It’s very contagious and if your dog(s) show symptoms, get them down the vet pronto

Buster and Bodie have had some jabs etc and some tablets to take - but vet said if you leave it the dog can get dehydrated very quickly (and I trust our vet completely - a very honest guy - he wouldn’t rip us off)

  • JJ, Valli and young Bowyer (now 12 weeks)
Bow will be returning to a local care home tomorrow for residents with Dementia.

Bonny beating the three second rule and boosting her Vitamin C intake.
  • The grumpy old one and the bouncy new one
  • The grumpy old one and the bouncy new one
Is the grumpy old one a Border?
  • Two videos, showing why they learn quickly when not to recall. If you keep recalling your dog before putting the lead on and going home they stop coming back, here Bow’s recalls with no problem. But try it before bedtime and he don’t want know. 😉

  • With a bit of help, worked out the relationship of 3 of our 5 dogs.

Say hello to Tramella Hilton , Tramella Hanx and Tramella Noodle.
Now listen up because I’ll say this only once.
Hilton is Valli’s mum and Hanx’s sister who is JJ’s dad, so JJ and Valli are cousins.
Noodle is Hilton’s daughter from a different father, making Noodle who is Bowyer’s mother, Valli’s half sister.
JJ who is son of Hanx and nephew to Hilton is as you remember cousin to Valli is also Noodles uncle.
Making him and Bowyer 1st cousins once removed .......
This in turn makes Valli Auntie to Bowyer.
I think I’ve got that right can you confirm this, Karen Sygrove ? 🤷😂😉
Amendments with thanks to Sadie Cordwell

  • Sorry @T_C_E , but I can't quite get this to fit the "Adams Family" tune!

Magnus my Spingerpoo gave me a bit of a surprise a couple of weeks ago in the morning when I walked into the kitchen. Poo & vomit everywhere, took me 1/2 hr to clean up. He was was off his food for a day or two, thought it was because he often drinks from dirty puddles.

Personally GA, that’s something I’d try to stop him doing particularly as I know you walk in woodland. Stagnant dirty water with little or no sunlight getting at it is where lungworms form. Freshly formed rain puddles, no problem........try boiled chicken and rice if he’s poorly just to push something through his system to clean him out.

Bowyer is a good looking dog. Through this nightmare, our dogs really help.

Gave him chicken & rice for a couple days, he was fine after that. As he was a street dog for while, that's why he drinks from puddles.
  • Bloody dog has been chewing sticks, been bile sick two days in a row at about 5 in the morning with most of it stick.

Had worsening diarrhoea last couple of days as well with today in park I was picking up watery poo that looked to me like it had blood in it.

called the vet who thinks should be ok and he’s on shirt rations of chicken and rice hoping that sorts him out. Bloody lab crosses eat any shite though the vet says so he’s on serious watch when we are out now....

last thing we need is a CT scan or a stomach op or both.

He’s good in himself so I hope I’m just being over cautious 🤞

JJ is more fussy than we are. He will eat a bit of sausage, but only the high end ones. Give him a Richmond and he will turn his nose up at it. I told the wife, stop buying those bloody Richmonds. If the dog won't eat them, we shouldn't be.
