Transfer fees have reached an entirely new level of ridiculousness this year. This fee, the money Palace paid for James Tomkins, Pogba to Man U, Everton's asking price for Lukaku. Can surely only be a matter of time before someone falls out of the top flight, doesn't make it back before the parachute money runs out and ends up in deep, deep trouble.
Palace completing a hattrick of adminstrations in three or four years perhaps....
No club is even close to overspending though. Teams get 100m just from tv rights now, so yes the fees are stupid, but every club can afford them.
But when you start paying these players 50k a week each, or more in most cases, on long contracts it adds up and if you go down it soon eats up the parachute payments if you don't go up within a season or two. Hopefully Palace will crash and burn. If I was a betting man I'd bet on relegation this season.

Yeah I think they'll go down this season. They'll be minted in the Championship, that league will become much less competitive than we're used to with the relatively huge parachute payments relegated clubs will receive.

I get the theory, but I think you will find an increasing number of clubs coming down in disarray with huge wage bills and players that are hard to shift for anything other than a loss. It's always been a bit of problem for clubs coming down but whilst the earning in the prem sky rocket, their not increasing at anywhere near the same rate in the Championship and even with the extra parachute payments, you are going to find some clubs getting into real trouble.
The odds of a club getting promoted without a wealthy backer willing to dip hands in their pockets regularly, seems a fading dream though.
I remember the days when £25-30m used to buy you a world-class player. Now it buys you a winger who's scored 12 goals in 130 games - and with a poor assist return too. Madness.
Hmmm...football agent Finnigan said that Bolasie nearly went to Charlton before he signed for palarse!
Wasn't he with us at one stage? Maybe the old grey matter is playing up again......
I believe Powell was very close to signing him from Bristol City but Palace offered more and he went to them instead. I also believe we went after him when he left Plymouth before his move to Bristol City.

We definitely did, I remember that. However, Bristol City could offer Championship football whereas we couldn't at that point

At the time of him leaving Plymouth, he was really good mates with BWP, so I always thought that as well as being one of the favourites for promotion, would've been enough to bring him to us.
But as you said, ultimately they could offer Championship football and more money but than we could. The season after we went after Baldock who eventually signed for Bristol City, was a right kick in the teeth missing out on two players who eventually went to them instead of us.
My Palace supporting mate said although brilliant on his day he has had 4 good games out of the last 20 times he has seen him.
I'm sure your Palarse mate also reckons Benteke will be the best player ever for them, and whichever player next leaves them "wasn't all that anyway". He was their most dangerous player on the attack, they got a lot of money for him and now I can't wait to see Pardew spunk it all away

Yay, let's all laugh at Palarse.....
I would lump on Pardew being sacked next.
