I have to say that I dont think I've ever once seen ticket inspectors at Barnehurst.  In comparison, it seems a once a month occurence at Welling and Bexleyheath now.  I admire your balls, I couldnt do it.

i always keep £5 on my oyster now just in case an inspector is about. then i can just say it musnt have swiped properly at the start of my journey.

to be honest i dont think its right, its a bit trampy. but i really really cannot force myself to fork out over 2k a year to travel too and from london on a packed shitty smelly train, thats late and gets cancelled at the first sign of the wind changing direction. call me what you want, im not doing it.

How do you get through the barriers at CX in the morning?

if you are at the end of the train you get off onto the part of the platform thats not covered. there are stairs that lead up to a bridge. go up, walk to the end, down the stairs and you come out near embankment station.

sometimes there are ticket inspectors that stand on the bridge. that means having to walk behind someone at the barrier, which i hate doing cos its like someone else is paying for your travel.

Any chance you could pop down to Upminster to scout out potential ways to do this on the district line ?

Which results in a loss of income for the rail company.

They increase ticket prices to compensate for this.

I no longer believe that fare evaders make it more expensive for everyone else. Even if every single person who used their shit service was paying full price, they'd still hike the prices up every year, just cos they can.

Another 10% increase next year, how many people's wages have increaed by even half that amount over the last year?

In the dim and distant when I was working on the platform the best passenger fiddle was buying a season Plumstead to Woolwich Arsenal and one from Vauxhall to London. This got you through the barrier at Plumstead and the Vauxhall ticket covered Waterloo East to Charing cross bit. Then the chances of a ticket check on the train was minimal due to overcrowding. The only coaching point was to keep the tickets in different pockets as pulling out the wrong one gave the scam away!

Used to do the same as vg. Used to buy weeklys from charing x to Waterloo for £6. Got caught 3 times and had to plead guilty at court :D. Still saved a packet

Other coaching point is if you use a station with fast,semi-fast trains make sure the train you catch home stops at the station on your season.Always good for a laugh that one!

  • that means having to walk behind someone at the barrier,

    No shaming you is there?

I tend to shove backwards if someone tries to come through the barrier on my ticket. Not only stops them getting through but draws the attention of the station staff.

Do you not get  a criminal  record for the offence? If so, it might come back to haunt you one day.
