I'm looking at getting a games console for the whole family to use. I've looked on the internet to compare the two but so many people have different opinions as to which one to get and which one is better. People seem to be in either the Microsoft or Sony camp. I can't decide.

;-)
I've always had ps1/2/3 so tend to stick with what I know, as most do. Didn't like the old xbox but the latest one's seem good when I've had a go. Prefer xbox controllers as they seem more comfy in the hands and must say (although I've not had a go myself) the x-box kinect looks very impressive and seems to be getting rave reviews, something to take into account if you have young kids who don't want to just sit in front of the screen shooting russians in the face.
No but saw the advert for it on tv today, looks interesting might get it at some point.
Oh and between xbox and ps3, I'd say ps3 - there's no uncharted3 on xbox :-)
The game changer is Kinect. For family fun its better than Wii and PS Move.
Didnt need a blu-ray (as already have a stand alone) and prefered the controllers.
In the 360's favour it does have Kinect which is brilliant and the best motion sensor platform by far. Also PS3's aren't invulnerable to breakdown, in the 4 1/2 years I've had mine it has had YLOD (yellow light of death) once, which was £80 to repair. They do suffer from overheating and are quite noisy if you leave a game on for a while. I really dislike the 360's controller too, not only is it bulky but it's batteries wear down very quickly, whereas the PS3 controller is light, simple classic design and rarely needs a recharge.
I know where you're coming from with all the DLC's and stuff. Was doing my career on Tiger Woods 12 and some of the events I can't enter as the courses aren't included and have to be downloaded at a cost of just over £3 each. Don't sound like much but can soon add up. I would imagine that this is the same on both platforms though.
To late for me. Definetally get it though. So much content you wont finish it for years unless you proper go for it, unlike COD where your £40 campaign is over in 5 hours.
Dazzler brings up a point, online on 360 costs. Depends how you look at it though. It costs the same as a new game so I generally overlook it. Either way, when it comes to online, all games will try to rip you off with DLC on either console.
Sometimes when im bored I end up spending a 10er on FIFA Ultimate team packs even though I dont play UT. Probably cost me 40quid.
For me, it all comes down to what one my mates have, and all my lot are 360 fanboys so I had to get it, still got the PS3 on standby though.
XBox is getting all the attention at the mo as PS3 BluRay is dead tho I do have playtv love film and iPlayer HD on the ps3 so can do all the free view plus stuff on that and get programmes such as Merlin in HD
360 loads quicker than PS3 due to DVDs reading almost twice as fast as Bluray. Blyray discs are coming down in price basically as they are not selling very well. Anyone remember mini disc the replacement for CD?
BluRays a are selling very well for example
Cars 2 shifted 1,763,626 Blu rays compared to 1,983,374 week ending 6 November.
Not bad if you ask me.
Sony has sold 43,400,000 PS3's compared to Microsofts 42,900,000 XBox's
